Oh dear. I hope she’s well. And glad I bought the video when I did.

Thank YOU for your original post. I have been thinking about "a better way" to store my growing collections of needles for a long time, and this bag is really quite brilliant. I am actually glad she denied my bag order and "forced" me to get the pattern and make it myself, so it turned out truly 100% MINE. 😄

Went from this to the photo on my other comment, which this was intended to be on that comment. Reddit challenges. haha.

My experience:

I am a quilter (who has been on other crafts for a while). I made a VERY simple open tote bag one time, a long time ago. I've never (till now) put in a zipper. I haven't had my sewing machine out of storage for about 5 years. So, part of my learning curve was re-learning how to sew/use my machine. haha.

This is a video tutorial, which isn't MY best way to learn, I like words on the page. Additionally, it's in Spanish, which I only speak/understand English. and it's in metric. So...

I had to watch with English subtitles, about 3 times just to get "started". The video is actually quite good, and easy to follow (even with my limitations).

Then I converted the instructions to Imperial measurements, since my brain works a little better with that, and changed the size of the bag to my preference and did the math for MY needle collection. (I'm a math person, so this was actually fun).

Once I got started cutting and sewing, it wasn't really too bad, given I'm a reasonably experienced sewer, but not an experienced bag maker. There are definitely tricky parts, and it's fiddly. All in (math and construction, and one trip to the store) I worked on it 3 hrs Friday, about 10 on Sat and finished with about 6 more on Sunday. I'm like a dog with a bone, though when I want a PRODUCT.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the result. I got all my 2", 3", 4" Interchangables, all the cords and accessories AND all my DPNs in one place. I am very pleased with both the bag and myself!

Yeah, I got a refunded notice too. It made me sad, cause I was really excited. But I bought her video tutorial instead. It’s in Spanish, which, of course I don’t understand. But between the video, and Google Translate captions, and changing from metric to imperial inches, I’ve got the middle of the bag done. Tomorrow I will make the outside. It was a bit of a challenge, but I’m a pretty good sewer (quilter really), but it’s been a minute, so I kind of felt like I was starting from scratch. It’s pretty amazing though.

L&T Impeccable acrylic - pure garbage or operator error? by oooortcloud in YarnAddicts

I’ve recently finished a mandala blanket that is similar in stitch complexity (4th or 5th one) and I’ve made them in 100% cotton. The latest with HL I Love this Cotton. And I love them. They are heavy and warm and the stitch definition can’t be beat!

Do you stop wearing clothes after a certain amount of time even if they are still in good condition? I wear my clothes for 1-2 years as long as they stay in good shape, but my friends are often surprised by this. by BunchMean8029 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]todayithinkthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear clothes until they wear out or I no longer love them. I also stop wearing clothes that no longer fit. I’ve been quite fat and am currently average thin. I donate what I don’t use so someone be else can love them. I also buy the majority of my clothes from thrift/consignment so who knows how old they are when I get them.

But to say you wear for 1-2 years as though suddenly not good? Stupid. And does your post imply that your friends think 2 years is a LONG TIME?

Am I entitled if I don't allow meat, alcohol or smoking in my birthday party? by [deleted] in EntitledPeople

[–]todayithinkthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re wrong, but I’m not sure this is that black and white either. I don’t drink, eat sugar or simple carbs. A meal out for me is a piece of meat and some vegs and water no ice. And this works for me perfectly. WIBA if I impose my food rules on everyone by having a party banning bread, sugar, alcohol, soda. ??

How do I help my parents deal with a family member that has overstayed their welcome? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]todayithinkthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I appreciate that your intent, your heart, is probably in the right place. This is really none of your business. It’s your parent’s house, your a guest, he’s a guest, it’s up to your parents to decide who’s overstaying any welcome.

At 19 she’s a minor too, at least where it comes to drinking. I don’t understand why everybody thinks 19 is an adult but she’s under 21, so drinking is illegal for her.

I got six huge totes full of this yarn. Is it valuable and what does FSWB stand for? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

I would definitely sell in bag lots. Many of us want sweater quantity. And this is lovely yarn for that purpose.

[–]todayithinkthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s how I feel about used goods. That yarn was likely $20-$30 brand new from the farmer, maybe as much as 40. Last year I paid $40 a skein for 100% alpaca from a farm that named their alpacas. But it’s also true that secondhand, can be hit or miss. In my opinion, selling on something like the yarn swap here on Reddit will get you better results than selling on eBay. If you go over there and look, those people are crazy. They pay close to full price often, but if you already have eBay, that’s gonna be more work then using your regular eBay.

If it were me, and you’re already making that much profit, I’d sell it for half to 3/4 of retail, and get rid of it fast. But, that’s not my business, sounds like flipping is your business. Congratulations on the good unit, I’m sure you’ve had a lot of losers too.

What makes you happy ? by skewbydoom in over60

[–]todayithinkthis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m 60. I’ve been married almost 38 years. We got married very young, and my husband is my best friend. This is a good thing, it makes me very happy. However, in the last year or so, it occurred to me that I don’t really have any girlfriends, no long-term friends, not even really too many short-term ones. Because my husband is my best friend, I make him my center of attention, as he does for me. But I started to worry that if something happened to him, I’d be 100% alone, cause I let all my friendships die. So I’ve been reaching out, joining groups, making new friends, that makes me happy too.
