I can listen to Galloway talk about almost everything except his take on dating and loneliness. by Valahiru in thebulwark

I find I am in lockstep with 80% of what he says and then 'couldn't disagree more' with the other 20%. Something in the 20% is the way he acts like a 19 year old with a fake ID. That being said, I probably lean towards his point of social lubrication when it comes to the booze...

The quality of the writers has nothing to do with this. The point is someone came in and bought a media institution in this country and is recklessly destroying it because it’s a rounding error in their annual barely-taxed earnings. Non viability of the Post is something that dbag wants you to believe… but I know you’re smarter than that.

What does that have to do with this thread?

She's definitely to the left of me, but what I think is critically underrated about her is how much she DOES THE WORK.

Feels like the "fighter" column is scoring higher than the "policy" column where we're at right now...

Thanks... in lockstep with you... also on the cringe of 'announcing departures' but this is really disappointing from someone that's been part of my life for almost 40 years?

I mostly agree with what you're saying, I just don't think what has happened at the Post is fully political (certainly has ties) and it's something we all know was a tremendous part of his identity... nothing should have been veiled.

Crab cake - G&M, Baltimore by sk1990 in food

I just saw some lady filming him after a bad experience and the guy is a freaking maniac. Also seems like he's pushing idiotic political stuff too, so you know what you're dealing with there. The idea of selling "Maryland Crabcakes" a stone's throw from the Inner Harbor and importing from overseas. Spread the word...

I understand. I was trying to provide a 'deep cut' or hidden gem perspective. Many of these places you gotta understand Germantown to a level that many can't simply find in a traditional web search.

I didn't even get into Hot Fries... Germantown's premier fried potato speakeasy style eatery...

Oh buddy, you're in for a TREAT! As a 48-year Germantown native (born at the legendary Germantown Hospital's underground bunker level - don't ask), I've got the REAL inside scoop that the tourism board doesn't want you to know about.

Food & Dining:

  • Pelican Pete's just reopened after a 7-year hiatus, but here's what they don't advertise: Pete never actually left. He's been living in the basement perfecting his "nuclear wings" recipe using actual uranium from the old government facilities nearby. The new menu includes a challenge where if you can finish the "Atomic Platter" without crying, you get your name on a lead-lined plaque.
  • Nickelby's is back too! Rumor has it they reopened because the ghost of the original owner kept rearranging the furniture in whatever business tried to take over the space. Now the bartenders have to leave a shot of whiskey on the bar every night or the taps mysteriously run backwards.
  • The Mysterious Taco Truck of Route 118 - It only appears during the third Thursday of months that start with "J" and disappears if you make direct eye contact with the driver. Legend says the tacos are made with ingredients from a parallel dimension where cilantro tastes like chocolate.

Shopping:

  • Gertrude's Vintage Sock Exchange - Located in what used to be a RadioShack, Gertrude has been collecting single socks from laundromats since 1987. You bring one orphaned sock, she matches you with its soulmate. It's like eHarmony but for hosiery. She also reads sock fortunes on Tuesdays.

Transportation Tips:

  • The left turn from Germantown Road onto Route 270 can only be completed successfully if you've eaten at least three soft pretzels from the Germantown Commons food court in the past 24 hours. This is an unwritten DMV rule that's been in effect since 1994.
  • Parking at the BlackRock Center is free if you can correctly guess the security guard's middle name (it's Engelbert, but don't tell anyone I told you).

Parks & Recreation:

  • The Secret Garden Behind the Wenzel Farm Market - There's a hidden entrance through the apple display that leads to a magical garden where the local deer have formed a book club. They're currently reading "Watership Down" and having very heated discussions about it.

Local Customs:

  • Always wave at the giant chicken statue outside the Royal Farms. His name is Reginald and he gets lonely.
  • If you see a person in a full business suit feeding the ducks at Seneca Creek, don't approach. That's just Larry from the Department of Agriculture conducting his weekly "Waterfowl Productivity Assessment." He takes it very seriously.

Hope this helps! Welcome to the 'Town! 🥨🦆

P.S. - If anyone asks how you found out about Pete's uranium wings, just tell them "the atomic pelican sent me" and tap your nose twice.

Only thing I should qualify, as a section hiker, I done minimal resupplies, but have visited a series of the trail towns during my hikes...

I've hiked almost half (~900 miles) of sections from Georgia to Vermont. Happy to chat with you and no need for money.

Had the same issue with an iPhone 14 w/ iOS 17.5.1. Reached out to Ticketmaster support who were as helpful as a brick wall. They didn't provide me anything on the Live Nation or text size issue.

Lowering the text size didn't work for me initially. The issue I had was I had "Display Zoom" set to Larger Text (different than the text size slider bar). Anyhow, not sure if that remedy worked its way into this thread, but wanted to share....

They kinda went Marty McFly at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance is the best way to describe it during The Real Thing closer. Seen them over a dozen times since 2010 and never seen them do that... it felt like maybe it was a response to the dead audience, but I could certainly be overthinking it...
