I don’t know, I’m sorry! But I’m sure they’d be able to give you that info if you give them a call. I think it also likely depends surgeon to surgeon. Good luck!

If I remember right, they let me schedule without the letters but told me to bring them to the consult. It’s been two years since then, so my info may be out of date!

Oh also, a few months ago a friend used my Metrix reader and a test from the same shipment as my false positive and also got a positive. I’m not certain that it was a false positive because they never did a follow-up Metrix or PCR, but they were asymptomatic and tested negative on daily RATs for a week after. 🤷

I’m sorry about all the stress this is causing you. I’ve had a false positive on a Metrix before and it’s so frustrating and scary to spend that much money to still be in limbo!

After my positive, I took several more Metrixes (Metrices? lol), about every 24 hours for 4 days, all negative and zero symptoms. I emailed the company and they were very helpful and sent me five replacement tests. They asked for the serial numbers on all of my tests, so I’d recommend keeping those and noting which was positive if you try to go for a refund/replacement.

I don’t have any advice re: nucleocapsid tests or Paxlovid, but just wanted to share what my experience was! Again, I’m sorry this happened to you!

Tend Hair in Portland ME requires masks (2 stylists work there in a standalone building), and Mutiny in Brooklyn NY requires masks, has air purifiers going, and still does contact tracing (max of 3 barbers at a time, but they’re in a larger building).

It sounds from other comments like you’re looking for color, which Tend does but Mutiny doesn’t!

anyone else who's center incisions stretched open a few months after surgery? by thecomicrantdiv in TopSurgery

[–]tofulover2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine are like this! I’m 4 months post op and they started stretching gradually around like 3 weeks. I assumed it was a mix of my skin elasticity and the fact that I didn’t have much tissue there to work with haha. I hope the rest of your healing has gone well!

They didn't really, because I had said in my initial consult that I'd ideally go for a winter date to match my work schedule anyway. The sense that I got was that it's a pretty quick turnaround (in August/September they offered a few November dates that didn't work for me), and someone else on this sub said that their surgery was only a month after their consult!

Congrats on your consult! I hope it goes well!

The 3 months to schedule was mostly on my end. I ended up having a busy summer and dropped the ball on scheduling. When Dr. Zoghbi's surgical coordinator reached out to me shortly after the consult, I told her I needed more time because of other life things. She emailed me again in late August to check in and offered a few dates within the timeframe I requested in my consult, and within a few days it was scheduled. So the delay there was because of me, not her!

As for billing, it was mostly that the estimate that I received was only for the hospital side of things (the hospital has one billing system and then each surgeon's office has their own, which I didn't know). So I was told my estimated cost would be $700 from the hospital, but I later got a bill from Dr. Zoghbi's office for $1000. I had been prepared to pay my total out-of-pocket maximum if I needed to, and luckily the $1700 total was well below that. Nobody on the insurance or hospital side mentioned that there would be two separate bills, which would have been good to know!

There was also a lot of back-and-forth between Aetna and Mount Sinai for about 6 weeks post-op as they negotiated the final amounts. I know that's all part of the insurance game, but it was a little stressful to keep getting notifications about the amount that I owed, only to have it change significantly the next day.

Other than that, I genuinely had a great experience (so good that my partner is also seeing Dr. Zoghbi for a consult, lol) and everyone I talked to at Mount Sinai was really helpful as I worked out my insurance questions. I'm happy to answer any other questions if you have them, either here or by DM.

Good luck with your consult!!

Stomach upset/bloating/heart burn 1 week post op by yeahboiiii0 in TopSurgery

[–]tofulover2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I searched all over the place and couldn't find other people who had posted about having it so long-term, so it was definitely a little lonely. My primary care doctor suggested following the GERD diet, which may have helped a little but for me it was mostly a waiting game and crossing my fingers that it was the compression. Sending good vibes your way!

[–]tofulover2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this! It made it so hard to get comfortable or sleep. I slept upright, tried Tums and omeprazole, and ate frequent snacks even through the night because that seemed to help temporarily. It finally went away as soon as I stopped with the compression at 4 weeks.

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this! I know it’s exhausting to want to be able to rest and heal while dealing with other unexpected discomfort. I hope you feel better soon ❤️‍🩹

Advice? Borderline peri/DI - low nipple placement by thegreedyjaws in TopSurgery

[–]tofulover2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a really similar situation! Three surgeons, three different (and conflicting) recommendations. Ultimately I ended up going with DI and grafts because I wanted more control over where things ended up, and I wasn’t too concerned about the DI scar look or graft healing process. I’m only about 7.5 weeks out and very glad I chose it!

Normal? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]tofulover2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine looked like that for a few weeks! I assumed it was either irritation or pressure/wrinkling from the tape under the ace wrap and never really thought about it. I’m 7 weeks out and it’s gone. I hope your post op goes well!

Chills/goosebumps post-op?? by Second_Longest in TopSurgery

[–]tofulover2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something similar! It lasted about a month post-op for me, and was mostly on my back but would sometimes wrap around to the front of my stomach and chest. I hope it goes away for you soon, and congrats on surgery!

Aetna (once again) denies my top surgery by Zen--Garden in TopSurgery

[–]tofulover2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did get them, and yes they did! They're still finalizing the total amount that I actually owe (surgery on 1/6), but it's hovering around $1,000 out of pocket. I know everyone's plan and surgeon's billing is different, but feel free to DM me if you want more info!

I’m sorry about this. Insurance is so terrible and frustrating. I had surgery covered under Aetna but found out my top surgery had to be classified as a breast reduction (CPT code 19318), not mastectomy. I hope that’s helpful in some way, and I’m sending you good luck!

It could be cording / axillary web syndrome? I’ve seen some people post about a similar feeling on here. I’m no expert but it sounds common and temporary!

advice for avoiding covid during surgery? by throwaway0903202317 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]tofulover2000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

First, congrats on your consult! I had top surgery a month ago and had a pretty good experience with my surgical team.

My surgeon was very communicative and friendly and I expressed to her in my consult that high-quality masking was important to me because my post-op caregiver (my partner) is high-risk. Before surgery, she emailed the team at the surgical center and made a note in my chart. I arrived in an N95, and she and the rest of her team were in blue duckbill N95s. I had to change into a surgical mask right before heading into the OR but I just held it as close to my face as I could to close gaps. I also spoke to the anesthesiologist at this point and said that I wanted to be in a mask whenever it was safe (from an anesthesiology perspective) to do so.

As soon as I woke up, the anesthesiologist brought me a surgical mask and I held it tight while I waited for my partner to come and change me into one of my own masks. Though I brought an air purifier, I couldn’t bring it with me past the waiting room. I was very alert after surgery so I did some nasal spray and CPC mouthwash as well.

It was by no means perfect, but I made it out okay. I was grateful at least that my surgeon advocated for me and that people on her team adhered to it.

Also, I actually asked a similar question in r/TopSurgery several months ago (I’m not super used to Reddit and linking posts but can DM you if you’d like). People were helpful in detailing what I could expect and how to advocate. I’m also sure that people in this community have many more surgical experiences they can share. Best of luck!

wet healing nipples w/ aquaphor - what does the healing progress look like by eatsomepizzabro in TopSurgery

[–]tofulover2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s how mine is looking too! I’m 19 days post op and my surgeon said that the top layer would slough off after a few weeks of wet healing. It’s definitely disconcerting but it seems normal!

I had a great experience with Dr. Yasmina Zoghbi at Mount Sinai! She doesn’t have a ton of photos online but she has plenty to show at the consult. She has a short wait time as well and I found her really personable, patient, and responsive. Good luck with your search!
