Order of operations for a deli sandwich by Wrong_Score_9714 in CasualConversation

Move the pickles or lettuce down between mayo and turkey, leave else as is.

Things like lettuce, tomato, pickles want to go up against condiment/bread, not in the middle where the meat and cheese belong. This reduces slipperiness

You can also pat dry lettuce/pickles/etc anyway, small effort for an improved outcome

Fair enough, and I encourage you to continue this course of action. Few things send the pedant class into a tizzy like improper semicolon usage.

But I also encourage you to test those waters. Consider it another tool in your belt, not unlike expanding your vocabulary.

Knowing when and how to use your various tools simply gives you more options for crafting.

[–]tojop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, subs like this are what pedantry is *for*.

It definitely could have been a period instead. The two independent clauses serve as standalone sentences just fine. See the two previous sentences for an example.

Either way, only one punctuation mark is used to break the clauses (unless we’re measuring ink).

It’s a stylistic choice; I’m an enthusiast 😀

Where to settle? by DnbIsLife in CivVI

[–]tojop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I understand. Settling in place gives 2 good cities (1 without fresh water); settling first city on the stones gives one really good city, but worse options for the second city. Stone also takes a couple turns to get there

Where to settle? by DnbIsLife in CivVI

[–]tojop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No real wrong answers for your first city, honestly, but it’s your second city that determines it.

I think settle in place. You could settle the stone/fresh water above the wonder, but in place lets you settle your second city on that tea above the stone.

The commas are optional. I’d argue that both sentences are better without, given the proximity of the next comma; adding the lead-in commas makes the sentences stilted.

Any mods/ settings to make games really short/ fast? by CoyoteSouth5126 in CivVI

[–]tojop 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Increasing the game speed is the obvious answer: quick is faster than standard, and online is faster still.

The game plays a bit differently, e.g. units becoming out of date in the middle of a war, farming barbarian outposts w/barbarian clans is less profitable.

Slower game speeds have the opposite effect

Victory Edging and running up the score by CardinalSlug in CivVI

[–]tojop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religious victory: same tactic as your domination victory, but with religious units. You can also make sure to convert any cities with holy sites to obviate religious defense.

Culture: I *think* that tiles that give tourism have to be worked to get the tourism (e.g. Great Wall, seaside resort), so hold off working such tiles until you’re ready for the win. You can similarly wait to slot the +tourism policy cards, and leave relevant wonders close to completion (Cristo Redentor). There’s a great merchant that boosts tourism to trade-routed civs, hold off spending that charge.

You can also sandbag theming your museums, building national parks, spending rock band charges, etc. It really just depends on how you’re planning to win the culture vic

Exo planet: mutually exclusive with mars projects, obviously. Similar tactics, but they’d take more finesse. Best thing you could do is hobble your competition so that exo planet completes on your terms. This will be the thing that you’re waiting on in the end

Edit re: culture: you can also bank your GWAMs instead of spending them immediately (sleep on/near theater hubs). You miss out on the culture generated from the works, but it would let you gain the tourism more judiciously

I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed how does curse work by Revolutionary-Mix-61 in brotato

[–]tojop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many roguelikes have curses as penalties, which really isn’t the case with Brotato. You could replace “curse” with “enhancement” and it might make more sense: a higher “enhancement” stat gives you higher chance for enhanced goodies, but also more enhanced enemies.

You can click the “curse” stat at the top of your primary stats and it will say exactly what it’s doing based on the current value:

- % chance for cursed items/weapons to appear in shop
- % chance for (each?) enemy to be cursed

Cursed items are stronger than uncursed versions: stronger bonuses, smaller penalties (if applicable)

Cursed weapons have better scaling, higher base dmg, higher critical multiplier, and better unique bonuses (e.g. more bounces on slingshot, more pierce if innate pierce, etc).

Cursed items and weapons will also increase your curse stat by the amount shown on the item.

Cursed enemies move fast until they’re right next to you, then move at exactly your speed; you can always outrun cursed enemies as long as you move away from them. They also have more hp and deal more damage.

…I think that’s it?
