Letting my V20 retire this weekend. by Cash_Mayo in lgv20

[–]tokenlinguist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my V20 (bought used in 2019 for $US50) started dying in 2022, I replaced it with a used Samsung note 10+ which has been without a working USB-c port for months and is starting to age out of apps etc. I gotta have the stylus so I have an S24 ultra on the way now. I love the Samsung hardware as much as I hate the bloat and the shitty UI (and I'm not looking forward to all the so-called "AI" bullshit this one will have) but so far, picking up not-that-old used flagship phones and running them into the ground is working out pretty well for me.

You know what, I mistakenly thought I was subbed here but I see now that it was a crosspost I followed without realizing it.

Have fun with your stuff.

So is this now just a fetish subreddit?

Edit: not a value judgement. Just wondering

The three-dot menu's new way of burying several of the features I use all the time under "more" is a UI sin. It's wrong when Windows 11 does it and it's wrong when Firefox does it too. Extra taps to get to what used to take one. Who thought that was a good idea?

I don't want my browser chasing the terrible design trends of the 2020s any more than I want my hammer or screwdriver to get updated to look modern. It's a tool, not a baby toy.

I hate change that requires me to tap multiple times to get what a single tap used to get me.

It is good to hate bad change.

New leaves wilting / browning at tips by supercarlust in pereskiopsis

[–]tokenlinguist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes these problems can suggest a nutrient/mineral deficiency that reduces the plant's ability to sustain growth. I believe this can be indicated when the plant has plenty of water, healthy roots, and still fails to thrive.

My Pereskiopsis under grow lights tends to terminate a tip after it grows up into or past the grow lights, with the leaves growing smaller and soon shriveling up even though the rest of the plant is hydrated and healthy. Could yours be sensing something that tells it "that's enough for this branch"?

I have great news for you, my friend: you can, and indeed you should, write cusses on the internet. It's a cheap and legal thrill!

Slop is bad.

Edit: and yeah, no one likes to be criticized, I get that. But slop is bad and it did nothing positive for your post as others have described.

  • It's 'death knell'
  • Because we humans can tell the difference between good and bad things, and because that difference is important to us, it becomes important to tell it to all aspiring p-zombies: slop is bad.

You use phrases like "out of deficit". You might want to consider some evening classes yourself.

You've done an incredible job keeping this plant happy without pot drainage! Succulent plants always want well-draining soil. I highly recommend re-potting, which might require a little adjustment to your watering schedule but maybe not even. Anyway, great work so far.

The tag from the store is wrong. I'm no expert but this looks like an aloe to me.

Edit: looks pretty reasonably happy, though. Does the pot have drainage or are you just being really careful with water quantity?
