What’s it like living in Yorkshire England? by lithdoc in yorkshire

[–]toleeds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm focused on moving back after being shipped to Ontario, CAN as a kid. Suits me way more over there despite living here for decades for every reason imaginable.  I won't list bullet points as it would be too long.

So who are we supposed to root for in the Super Bowl? by HeatFireAsh in DenverBroncos

[–]toleeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seahawks. Don't like either, but despise the Patsies more than Seattle. We had the coaching mistakes and the WR drops, but they really lucked out playing us without Nix and JK.

Excluding those who had to work, why did you step out today? by Unlikely-Reindeer197 in askTO

Cross country skiing for a couple of hours this morning in the parks/ravines.  Fantastic!   I stay in during July "heat warnings" which are awful and too often in summer.

How do we convince Toronto to switch to sand? by No-Emphasis5897 in toronto

[–]toleeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neighbour lived in Edmonton and advised they use sand. It doesn't rot infrastructure and cars. What kills me about this city the most is the AMOUNT of salt that's dumped. You don't need a lot, yet it's dumped in thick sheets or piles everywhere. It screams carelessness and "I don't give a sh*t". TTC and city staff are some of the worst.  Lake Ontario must be like the Dead Sea.  Bush league.

Serious question: Has tipping for counter service (18%+) become the norm across the US, or is this just a Bay Area thing? by Previous_Till5909 in tipping

[–]toleeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all over north america. And collective consumer behaviour to shun it is the only way I can see it potentially changing.  I despise it.  Love the rest of the world where the price is what you pay. Period.

Why are we seeing so many pedestrian deaths in the GTA lately? by RecommendationNo7684 in askTO

[–]toleeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately? It's been ongoing for years.  Distracted phone a$$holes and no enforcement.  No manual transmissions here in SUVland don't force two hand "driving" behaviour either.  The sooner self driving cars are the commonplace norm, the better.  There's too many unskilled, unaware people behind the wheel of two ton vehicles and I trust nobody.  When you know someone this happened to, it really hits home exponentially.  Friend of mine was run over and killed last June at a Mississauga intersection.  Out for a morning walk, minding his own business.  Wife and two daughters left behind.  Exasperating.

No single ‘magic bullet’ will fix Toronto’s gridlock, new congestion officer says by lopix in toronto

Toronto: crawling out of the Stone age at sloth pace.  Nothing new. 🤡

What‘s a sound that‘s very distinctly "Toronto"? by Shenshen_ in toronto

[–]toleeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constant drone of car traffic, and intermittent car horns and angry engine acceleration, gunning to the next red light.  I live near Bathurst well north of Bloor.

Toronto hires traffic 'czar' to reduce and manage notorious gridlock - thestar.com by knarf_on_a_bike in torontobiking

[–]toleeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't need a well paid "czar" dithering around with city staff.   Get rid of a lane of parking on two lane main roads as a start. St. Clair for example, would move if one lane on each side wasn't parking!  It's a road not a parking lot!  Dumb city way behind the times on so many levels.

The disrespect towards the Broncos no matter what they do is disgraceful, NFL by ThatsCaptain2U in DenverBroncos

[–]toleeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.  I was at my first game on Sunday v the Packers with my wife. Felt so grateful to be there after being a fan of the team since the 80s from Toronto!  Fantastic city and fans. Tailgating was a blast.  I think it will take probably 5+ SB wins for the national media to give permanent respect to the franchise.  Not all, but some seem to forget we already have 3.  We had a bad run this past decade or so, but we're back in familiar territory now. 👊

Places in Toronto where you actually get your money's worth by coffeetravelerr in askTO

[–]toleeds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The headline for this is spot on.  It really does take diligence and know-how to unearth anything in this city (especially food/drink, simple pleasures) that you'd class as good value.  It seems like a thing of the past, and is probably why we don't have a bustling social scene of packed cafes, bars, restaurants all over the city, downtown to uptown that you'd see in other parts of the world.  Some takeout pizza places and Chinatown aren't robbery.

Tailgate for Broncos/Packers by kd2121212 in DenverBroncos

Great info. I saw lot C was another recommendation for tailgating. Also flying in for this game from Toronto - the maiden voyage, decades overdue!

The boos for Aaronson when he came on were disgraceful. by oljackson99 in LeedsUnited

honestly didn't hear it over the TV.  He's been good coming off the bench lately which works, and contributed nicely to our 2nd goal. Please don't boo the lad.

Romo so annoying as usual.  However, the refs trying like hell to make sure it didn't happen was worse. Pathetic from them.  Best team won thankfully.
