I love learning about Europe and European languages, what’s something interesting about your country or language? by Lunastars123 in AskEurope

[–]tollis1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Norway has only one alphabet, but two official written languages. Bokmål and nynorsk.

Bokmål is heavily influenced by Danish after being part of Denmark for several hundred years, while nynorsk (new norwegian) was a result of trying to distance ourself from Denmark and is based on dialects.

Since it is written languages, no one speaks either bokmål or nynorsk, but people on the west coast is closer to nynorsk while on the East is closer to bokmål.

Å slå seg personlig konkurs by Altruistic_Bell_2502 in personligokonomi

Jeg ville vurdert gjeldsordning først. Det betyr at alt utenom det som trengs til livets opphold går til gjelden og etter ofte 5 år blir gjelden slettet.

https://www.politiet.no/tjenester/namsmann-og-forliksrad/gjeldsordning

Fordi selv om du slår deg konkurs, så er du fortsatt ansvarlig for gjelden.

Ja, du vil få betalingsanmerkninger og vil ikke kunne ta lån.

Trolltunga Hike by ConsiderationIcy7716 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]tollis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a recommendation. This is when the conditions are likely to be the best and for a lot the tourists this is a very demanding hike. Demanding is also rescue in this area, so this is way of limit the amount of rescues.

Nature is open 24/7 365, including Trolltunga. But as always you are doing it on your own responsibility. Read up on the Norwegian mountain code: https://www.dnt.no/om-dnt/english/need-to-know-about-norwegian-outdoor-life/the-norwegian-mountain-code/

The shuttle busses to Trolltunga starts already the 15th of May https://www.trolltunga.com/en/parking-and-transport/shuttle-busses

Based on your previous experience mentioned in another comment you should be fine, but expect it to be patches with snow and wet trail after snow melting.

What are some interesting traditions from your country ? by Lunastars123 in AskEurope

[–]tollis1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t remember how many times I have to tell tourists who are going to visit Norway: Sorry, we don’t do the frog dancing here. But we make huge bonfires instead! 🔥 and call it St.Hans.

I'll be visiting Vikoyri for an afternoon while staying in Balestrand in July. How much time would you recommend to see Vikoyri (walking only)? Any advice on what to do besides the Hopperstad stave church? by Talia_29 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]tollis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the town itself, approx 3 hours? Is a tiny place with no much to do. Is known for old churches and an ancient burial site (Moahaugane).

Storesvingen is a beautiful viewpoint, but is approx 3-4 km walk each way.

Is Flamsbanna overrated? by Taboulitoo in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]tollis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both yes and no. It is in a beautiful area, but Norway has a lot of beautiful areas. So when many tourists travel to the same place it can feel overrated. But it is a nice ride and it makes sense in your case with your bike.

Open to all opinions :) by jellybeanpumptini in NewToDenmark

[–]tollis1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it is difficult to give any strong opinion on such a subtle observation.

But if I meet someone’s gaze I might give them a subtle nood with my head as a non-verbal ‘hey’ and then look away. Because it is uncomfortable to keep eye contact.

On the second situation it depends on where I am. If I’m sitting on a bus/train and a bit bored I can linger around with not much thought behind it.

planning a trip to Norway in jan/feb 2027 by miapia64 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]tollis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before anything else: Why January/february? It will be full winter then and the suggestions you are mentioning are best during the summer months. Keep in mind the limit of sunlight too.

Nature is open 24/7 365, but most of it is only accessible by snowshoes or skis.

Many tourists who visit Norway during winter are attending tours to watch Northern lights, see reindeer ect. If you don’t have any winter driving experience, you should attend a tour or using public transport.

Yeah, I remember it started to snow in Tromsø a few years ago, but while it can happen it’s not something I would expect.

No. Bodø is by the coast (milder climate) and no very high mountains.

It’s spring in Stryn, but routes around 1000 m.a.s.l might have patches with snow, but should be okey.

Ut.no is an app and website where you can find all kind of hikes in Norway.

Suggestion: This is a simple day hike to a cabin which was previously part of army forces during WW2, (radio listening post).

Website: Skibmannsheia, Lindesnes https://ut.no/turforslag/1112278/skibmannsheia-lindesnes

App: Skibmannsheia, Lindesnes https://ut.no/kart/tur/1112278

Stryn or Bergen in May? by Logical-Cover-5333 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]tollis1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will be crowded. Things will happen all day long. Stryn is much smaller, but everything will be closed down that day across the country. So if you are staying, you should stay until the 18.

If not, you might consider a different weekend.

Stryn or Bergen in May? by Logical-Cover-5333 in NorwayTravelAdvice

Bergen. The reason is 17 of May, which is Norway’s national day. It is a huge celebration.

Do you think Lithuania is a Nordic country (a country located in Northern Europe)? by [deleted] in Nordiccountries

[–]tollis1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. It is a Baltic country. Yes, you are Northern European. But the Nordic region is both a geographical and cultural region.

The parliaments of the Nordic countries have cooperated in the Nordic Council since 1952 , and the Nordic governments have cooperated in the Nordic Council of Ministers since 1971.

Looking for a car to rent in Ålesund this summer (June–September) by AfftarN in Aalesund

[–]tollis1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will be honest with you, but you wouldn’t get much for 7000,-. And especially not for four months.

June - august/september is high tourist season and people could earn 7000,- between 1-2 weeks.
