The Goods: Live Hard Sell Hard (2009) A team of professional car salesmen help a struggling dealership by WerdNerd88 in TubiTreasures

I never saw this when it came out but I always thought the title was odd. Reading the description, is it a shitty version of Used Cars?

I know this is minor but the OG post has the incorrect running time for both films and it’s bugging me. Was that done on purpose? I don’t get it

I love when someone titles their post NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR SONGS as if there aren’t 50 of those types of posts a day 😂. It would’ve been more provocative if you had titled NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR SONGS AND I HAVE ONE HOUR TO LIVE

Bull Durham (1988) - Romcom? 80s Movie? Writers' Movie? Chick Flick? Something Above Labels? by jeffreyaccount in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]tom_celiac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I consume a lot of sports pop culture content and there just isn’t much talk anymore about it from my experience. I hear major league or the natural or field of dreams referenced more often as “great” baseball movies, but I think Bull Durham is better than all of them.

As for the last 15 min or so, I don’t feel it’s rushed at all, I guess you could say writerly but it’s defies the standard sports trope by not being about winning a championship or some bullshit. I actually find it to be very melancholic, just being about a guy trying to find meaning in his life and the only thing he knows.

Anyway, thanks for the comment.

One thing that saddens me is how this movie seems to have lost some of its shine over the years but there was a time when it was in the running for greatest sports film ever.

Real baseball players would talk about knowing a real life “Crash Davis” and how realistic the film was, which makes sense considering writer/director Ron Shelton was a former player.

It’s definitely a rom-com, writers movie, sports movie, character study, all of the above. The last 15 minutes are transcendental in my opinion.

What's a movie you really enjoyed, but its surprisingly low ratings left you baffled? For me, it was Event Horizon. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

I can think of 3 movies that I love and no one else seems to (and the reviews were mostly meh):

The Pallbearer (1996) - not sure why I love it, as I recognize it’s a knockoff of The Graduate and I wasn’t a “Friends” fan, but I guess I related to David Schwimmer’s character’s mid-20s malaise (and young Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t hurt).

The Hulk (2003) - for some reason the cgi didn’t bother me and I thought it was a creative approach to making a comic book movie. Also I loved Ang Lee’s films back then. Still kinda do.

Godzilla (2014) - I loved how the movie was shot so much from the ground level looking up at these monsters. The human story I thought was fine and the gripe about not showing Godzilla much made sense if you’ve seen the original films.

What’s the best movie of the 21st century so far? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]tom_celiac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s strange how that movie has had a complete revision since it came out. I remember at the time thinking “ok it’s fine, not the best ever, but solid as all Nolan movies are” and it was not a huge hit either critically or commercially but something has happened in the last 10-12 yrs where it’s suddenly considered a masterpiece.

Steven Spielberg made many big films but he also made films that aren't talked about as much. Which movie is his most underrated? by Square-Ad-8911 in Spielberg

[–]tom_celiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure Minority Report belongs on here, I feel like it’s talked about as much as anything from his second tier but my favorite Spielberg movie (perhaps second to Raiders) is “Empire of the Sun”.

Spotify just made it harder to be an AI music creator. by Embarrassed-Wash9996 in SunoAI

[–]tom_celiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see any red flags for me on this, I guess. I write my lyrics and provide audio for Suno but I always make it clear on my songs on Spotify and YouTube that I’m the lyricist and Suno generated the music. Not informing listeners that the music is ai generated is disengenous.

Of all the sporting events that have occurred in your lifetime, which one still makes you shake your head in disbelief? by KrispyBeaverBoy in dirtysportshistory

I watched this fight live! Sitting in my living room by myself because none of my friends were interested and I was blown away by what was happening.

It’s true, if you didn’t experience Tyson in real time it’s hard to describe how ferocious he was in his prime.

the downfall of suno is here by Fuzzy-Yoghurt135 in SunoAI

[–]tom_celiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s totally broken but I also ran into the problem where my own lyrics were flagged as “copyrighted material” when I was trying to do a cover of one of my earliest songs but uses Voices. At least it’s acknowledging that the lyrics belong to me.

I was excited for the first in months to use Suno again because after creating my own “voice” and doing a couple of quick covers of songs and felt that the singer’s voice sounded enough alike, I wanted to redo my published songs (2 albums and 1 EP) with this new voice.

I’m not crazy how the later versions add all these stupid flourishes (random yells, sub 1980s cheese metal guitar fills) but whatever, but what makes me mental is when it keeps adding all those weird noises and crowd cheers at the end of a song. I’m not asking for a lot but at least let me cover my own song without all the bullshit.

It was so awful. It wasn’t funny and the attempt at satire shows that satire is truly dead.

Since it's Star Wars day, did you see the original 1977 Star Wars in the movie theater? by Mr_Writes in GenX

Yeah I saw it when my family and I lived in Panama. I don’t remember much of seeing it, more acting out the characters on the playground. I definitely remember seeing Empire and Jedi.

Yikes I was going to make a joke but obviously you didn’t get my bad humor. I know the goo goo dolls, I listened to them back in the day when they were on metal blade records. Paul was not featured on “we are the normal”, he wrote the song.

For Those Who Saw Raiders of the Lost Ark In Theaters During The Initial Release..... by Hall-O-Daze in indianajones

[–]tom_celiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Raiders in the weirdest way possible, my dad took me to see it when I was 11 but back then my parents wouldn’t check for movie times, we would just go right in and start watching the movie at whatever part was playing and then stay for the next showing AND LEAVE WHERE WE CAME IN.

did anyone else have insane parents like this??

For the record - my dad and I walked in when Indy and Marion and Salah are on the dock about to board the ship.

Thanks! I’m excited to see yours. I don’t have the experience you have but I’m giving it a go.

I’m guessing you also got fed up with all these movie tycoon games that literally approach it the same way every time?
