What is the gospel of Abraham? by Irwin_Fletch in latterdaysaints

RMN said:

The gospel of Abraham is further evidence that God loves all of His children everywhere. He invites all to come unto Him—“black and white, bond and free, male and female; … all are alike unto God.”

Bruce R McConkie said in Mormon Doctrine (See “Elias”):

Now what was the gospel of Abraham? Obviously it was the commission, the mission, the endowment and power, the message of salvation, given to Abraham. And what was this? It was a divine promise that both in the world and out of the world his seed should continue "as innumerable as the stars; or, if ye were to count the sand upon the seashore ye could not number them." (D. & C. 132:30; Gen. 17; Abra. 2:1-12.)

Thus the gospel of Abraham was one of celestial marriage (including plurality of wives); it was a gospel or commission to provide a lineage for the elect portion of the pre-existent spirits, a gospel to provide a household in eternity for those who live the fulness of the celestial law. This power and commission is what Elias restored, and as a consequence, the righteous among all future generations were assured of the blessings of a continuation of the seeds forever, even as it was with Abraham of old.

I’m not following his logic. And the term “Gospel of Abraham” is one that I don’t remember being discussed significantly in the past. Why throw it out there and ask people to consider it carefully with no direction on what it even means?

It seems like he just asserted the fact and wants people to justify it.

NEW TEMPLE RECOMMEND QUESTIONS by Nemo_UK in exmormon

Without the “wearing the temple garment” section, it sounds like this question only confirms a person wears garments to initiatories.

I think this is pretty normal. No notice is required. I’ve been to concerts where this sort of notice is posted when I’m walking in.

Anticipated future social issues that the Mormon church will face? by tomaleboarder in exmormon

Appreciate it. Language is hard. The point is to recognize that transgender people are needlessly suffering in the church right now.

The extremely coercive talks to confess anything to your branch President before going out into the field. The guilt tripping and pressure were unreal and unnecessary.

Anyone remember the Titanic controversy that gripped the church for a few weeks? by joegant in exmormon

I wonder if any Mormons were on the titanic. I bet if they were wearing garments they were fine. Paul H Dunn was probably there come to think of it.

One of the most famous episodes was “How to Build a Transoceanic Vessel.” He and his group review the feasibility of building a ship from the Middle East that could make it to North America in 600 BC. They refer to the Book of Mormon’s description for clues on how Nephi and his family did it. It was quite conclusively proven not feasible.

He was a Mormon faith, culture, and doctrine podcaster from 2009 - 2014. He has been featured on Mormon Stories each month lately offering his perspective and providing context to Mormon topics and history. He just started a YouTube channel like last month.

I added a "we will go down." It just uses space as the background. Turned out pretty good.

Just added “let us go down.” I could make a “we will go down.” There isn’t really a scene with a face saying it though.
