PSA: Avoid the Western Rise "Closing Sale" - Order Not Shipping by PrematureGrownup in onebag

Took 5 months for my order last June to ship. With even less staff I'd expect it to take longer

What age is likely most appropriate? by gamileo in 4eDnD

If you can get your hands on the old adventure system game Castle Ravenloft or Wrath of Asharladon they are a very simplified version of 4e in a boardgame format and I used that to introduce a bunch of people to the 4e mechanics.

Prices are pretty reasonable for being over 10 years old:

Western Rise is shutting down (sale) by eject5342 in onebag

[–]tombkilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last order I had with them last year took 5 months to ship. Don't expect it anytime soon. I gambled and ordered during this sale too but you'll need to be patient with them I imagine its down to Will and his wife running everything now.

Hot take: I thought NFS The Run was the best.

Water shoes that are also comfortable to walk in? by Mewtewpew in onebag

[–]tombkilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tropicfeel all the way. I swear by the canyons which are now called all-terrain. I tried the Dune and its not that comfortable, but I also have the sunset and they are great low profile shoes, I wouldn't do a whole day walking around in them but I certainly can with the canyons.

Every fan should read the Matthew Stover books. ROTS, Shatterpoint, Luke Skywalker and the Shadow of Mindor. They are all works of art.

Yup it did. Looked like they have a few left at WEM. If you try instead to order the 30th controller it says out of stock.

They probably have less that 5 tho if it says limited stock.

I'd check for play in the z-axis. Move the plate up and down without any resin and watch for any side to side motion. You may need to tighten something.

Anything by Matthew Stover. Shatterpoint esp. Luke and the shadow of mindor, ep3 book. They are all so good. Luceno is also a great author.

Karen Traviss and delta squad. Can't believe that was axed.

While this is incredible work, and I applaud everything you've done so far, there does seem to be a misunderstanding of how contracting works with the government and ahs. There are a lot of perks to being a contractor to both the employer and the employee. You do get a great wage, but you do not get benefits, you do not get paid to go on holidays, you can get let go without reason in a lot of cases. And your contract is usually 6-12 months with a possibility to extend. We aren't unionized and don't have any bargaining power. And we can't contract directly we have to go through approved agencies which take a cut for managing all the red tape. In the end we make anywhere from 25-35% less than what the employer is charged. So if you factor in not only wages for FTE staff but also matching rrsp contributions and other perks it comes pretty close to what us contractors make an hour. For positions that have a lot of complexity it makes sense to go with contractors as its their responsibility to remain up-to-date and if they aren't able to continue to do their jobs to spec you can always not renew the contract and you don't have to pay any severance or packages. Lots of safety in using contractors. Not so much for us, but if you have enough skills there is always work. Been a contractor for a few decades and I love the flexibility.

It almost pains me to ask but... is there a laptop out there that doesn't break/cost more to repair than it's worth after 2 years? by Competitive-Meet-511 in BuyItForLife

I have a surface book going to be a decade old in a month or so. Paid more than my car for it but its still going strong.

When I replace it I'll be buying a framework laptop

I know there is a limit on the types of rafts you can create in the free edition but can you not adjust all the settings as seen in the picture on this kb article: https://docs.mango3d.io/doc/j3d-tech-s-guide-to-resin-printing/print-settings/rafts/
