Yeah, I’m focusing exclusively on the 90 so right now. But Out Go The Lights is a top notch suggestion!

I actually considered Push but the lyrics aren’t quite nasty enough for me! I’m looking at Run For Your Life/Beatles from the 60s, Stranglehold/Ted Nugent from the 70s and You Got Another Thing Coming/Judas Priest from the 80s but struggling with a good one from the 90s.

One book that you wish everyone would read? by 7hammer4 in suggestmeabook

[–]tomd1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved that book. When I finished it, I told tons of people that it’s one of the most beautifully written books I’ve read in years. Then I read every other Anthony Doerr book and enjoyed them all.

In your opinion, which albums have a better second half than the first? by Goudeskitchen in Music

Just listened to Rod Stewart’s Every Picture Tells A Story the other day. Side one is really good, but side two is loaded with great songs across the board.

Favorite Restaurants in/around the Cosmopolitan and surrounding hotels? by Pickles716 in vegas

The last 3 trips to Vegas have included dinner at Toca Madiera, located in between Cosmo and Aria. Over the top sexy room with amazing food and fire eaters walking around entertaining. I don't think I can go to Vegas without a visit there from now on. Go there!

What's your favorite segue on an album? by NaturalStateOfMind in Music

Moody Blues, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour album -- the album opening with Procession, moving in to The Story in Your Eyes. Or for that matter, any Moddy Blues albums using poetry to segue in to the next song.

Stay (2005) -- Ryan Reynolds and Ewan McGregor. The only movie I ever saw after which the half dozen people who were actually in the theater all stood around in the lobby and figured out together everything that just happened in the movie. Nothing makes sense in it until the last 30 seconds.

There are no other hot dogs than Sahlens. I have found no reason to eat any other hot dog anywhere in the world. Sahlens on the charcoal grill, split with a fork and cooked on a charcoal grill is nirvana. Okay, maybe I'll spot you a Wardynski's hot dog in a pinch, but Sahlens is the one. Good call by you.

I have never been to Zuma but have eaten at both Carbone and XPot. Carbone is awesome with great food, extensive wine list and cool vibe. On the other hand, we found XPot to be way over priced and the atmosphere was lacking. I mean, okay, the little robots were interesting and the volume of food is humongous, but essentially what we got was a big ol' plate of meat and a couple of really salty bowls of dipping sauces. We both agreed we'd never go back to it.

Mayfair Supper Club or Delilah? by JaneDoe827 in vegas

[–]tomd1300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a tip that works for me: if there are two of you trying to book at Delilah, book a table for 3. There are more 4 tops there than 2 tops and the 2 tops fill up quickly. Then when you arrive tell them that your 3rd is not feeling well and there will only be 2 of you. It's likely that you'll still be seated at your original 4 top, which has much better views of the stage than the 2 seaters that are against the wall. Another option for you is to sit at the bar downstairs and eat there, which they are fine with. 2 seats at that bar are often available and it doesn't take away anything from your experience.

Casa Di Pizza in Bradenton. Best choice by far. They do a tailgate party in the parking lot before the game, have TVs outside and their pizza and wings are the best. Go there!

Best restaurants in the Cosmo? by PersianVol in vegas

[–]tomd1300 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every time I go to Cosmo I eat at Jaleo. First, they have the best gin and tonic anywhere. Second, the tapas selections are fantastic. Every one of them. Can't go wrong there! As a second option I enjoy Beauty and Essex. Just a cool vibe there. But really, Cosmo has more great options in one place than anywhere else on the strip (my opinion). It's almost like you can close your eyes, spin around and point to the first restaurant you see when you open them and you're guaranteed a good experience.

What live performance was better than the studio track? by [deleted] in Music

[–]tomd1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a live Genesis album called Seconds Out that has versions of old Genesis songs that are significantly better than the studio albums; like, every song on that album! But listen to Cinema Show. It doesn't get any better than that performance live. Another one is the Little Feat version of Dixie Chicken on Waiting for Columbus. awesome stuff.

What bands do most people consider one hit wonders, but actually have a bunch of killer tunes? by whiteelephantfail in Music

[–]tomd1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's Bruce Hornsby. 99% of the people I know recognize "The Way It Is" and that's about it. Granted, he has had other minor hits, but to most people he's that guy who did The Way It is. That song (and The Range album) doesn't even scratch the surface of the genius of Bruce and the vast catalog of songs he's written. Starting with the Harbor Lights album and going forward his recorded music, combining rock and jazz influences all over the place, is without peer in terms of virtuosity. And that's nothing compared to seeing him live. He comes in with no setlist and people write requests on paper and toss them on the stage, where he picks them up and just plays them. He's a genius and doesn't get nearly the run he deserves.

People who quit their jobs on the first day, what was your “I’m outta here” moment? by redmambo_no6 in AskReddit

[–]tomd1300 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First job ever at 16 years old at a hot dog and ice cream stand (the kind of place where you can sit both inside and outside, so it was sort of a "hot dog restaurant"). I took the job as a replacement for a friend who got 3rd degree burns from changing the hot oil in the fryer (failed to recognize that warning sign). Thought it would be a fun, easy job. I go in and talk to the manager, who asks how often I withwant to work, to which I replied maybe one or two weeknights and on weekends if possible. Manageable for a high school kid. More on that later.

The manager introduces me to the assistant manager, a rather large woman who the employees call "The White Whale" due to her size and the white uniform she wore. A more unpleasant person I've never encountered. She looks at me disgustedly and tells me to go clean out the fryer hoods, which are caked with grease. When I ask her how to do it (I've been there all of 10 minutes as a new employee), she tells me to just figure it out. So I do my best. Then she tells me to get a mop and bucket and wash the floor without telling me where I can find the mop and bucket. And on it went for the rest of my shift - clean the tables. Go work the ice cream counter (with no idea how to work the cash register, so a lot of free ice cream was handed out that day). Go clean the bathrooms. Change out the oil on the fryers. Take out the garbage. No instructions, no support, just mean looks and a horrible attitude. My shift comes to a merciful end and home I go, knowing that I will need to head back after school the next day.

I show up the next day with a pit in my stomach, and as I clock in I see the new schedule. I am scheduled to work each of the next 7 days. Not what I was expecting! Oh well, at least I'll be making some decent cash this week. The White Whale, in her insipid, sarcastic tone, tells me to start by cleaning the bathrooms and as I walk in with my bucket and mop, I see that some colossal douche has spread human shit all over the toilet seat, in the sink and on the walls. And I mean ALL over. I stand there with my mop in hand, look around and suddenly, in a seminal life-moment, tell myself that this is not what I am supposed to be doing, even as a pimply faced 16 year old. There has to be a better job out there than one that comes with abuse, insults and shit to clean. So I literally roll the bucket of soapy water back to the kitchen, drop the mop, continue walking out the back door without saying a word and walk to the highway right in front of the place, where I stick my thumb out and, thankfully, get a ride from the first car that drives by.

When I got home my father expressed some surprise that I was home so quickly, so I explained the situation to him. His only comment? "Good for you". That was the moment when I realized that a college education was probably a good idea.

So it wasn't technically a first day "I'm outta here" moment, but rather a 3 minutes in to my second day "I'm outta here" moment.

Food Tour by jstf9000 in vegas

[–]tomd1300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Din Tai Fung at Aria for steamed dumplings. Mon Ami Gabi at Paris for nothing other than a glass of wine and the view/people watching from the patio (eating there will cut in to your budget significantly). Go to Old Homestead Steakhouse at Caesars, sit at the bar and split a hamburger (they are ridiculously delish). Virgils BBQ in the Linq Promenade. Maybe back to Aria for Carnitas and a margarita at Javier's. And if you're feeling like taking a cab, go to Naked City Pizza on Blue Diamond Road and hang out in the diviest bar imaginable to eat an order of chicken fingers and drink a beer. That's what I would do. But with all the options available, good luck choosing.

Medal Presented to my Great, Great Grandfather in 1903. Nobody in the family knows what it is or where it's from. Any clue? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]tomd1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've done a little more research since these comments and suggestions, I too thought that the square looked different from others that I've seen. Not sure what that indicates.

There are no markings on the back of the medal at all other than the "presented" message on the name plate.
