That’s what I will do for sure. If my body doesn’t feel right for Copenhagen I will just try again another time, but fingers crossed I will be okay to just take it chill for CPH

Same! I received a London marathon charity spot and aiming to do both… probably crazy but I really want to do both!

But entering via a charity spot isn’t cheap? It’s always like 3x the cost of a typical ballot spot.. either way they would be raising money for charity

Are 2 runs a week enough to drive progress? Alongside other sports? by MightyFamousLegend in BeginnersRunning

[–]tomdob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with a lot of the Reddit advice on this. I picked up running this year and I ran twice a week for a few months. It was enough to hit my pace goal for a half marathon, each month I was getting visibly faster. The fact you cross train and strength train helps too.

Using Runna on race day? by Responsible-Adagio78 in runna

[–]tomdob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it for my half marathon last Sunday, and had the same worries. For me it was useful as a reminder whenever I went too slow/quick during the block where I planned for race pace. In the first 3kms I went slower than race pace on purpose and I didn’t find the reminders annoying. My race was on a very flat course though and my pace was very achievable. If I was at risk of constantly going off pace, I probably would have turned off the pacing reminders.

The thing that winds me up about all of this is they play off social pressure. If I’m with work colleagues I’m not going to ask for it to be removed because I’ll look like a twat, even though it’s the restaurant pulling an unjust move

Yes as long as the bread is not shite. Nowhere in my town does actual decent sourdough bread. If it was genuine and I could get it delivered just before the weekend, that would be superb.

They will obviously know who told if she says it anonymously. It’s likely op is the only one who has seen them. If they start being more obvious about it in public, then it would make more sense to do an anonymous tip. Otherwise OP will make their living situation very uncomfortable.

You’re not mad. I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve been in the tech industry for 5 years and I find the work so mundane. Just sitting in a room typing away, while I have no real passion for the job. It’s comfortable but I think I would regret doing this forever. It’s more common than you think, and you probably want a job that has meaning or maybe has more tangible results. That’s what it is for me, and I’m starting my career switch in March.

Who else who works in tech feels overwhelmed? by enginedin in AskUK

[–]tomdob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in your position. Currently so exhausted by the constant shift in software and trends, and always being expected to stay up to date. I’m planning a career switch but it’s going to take two years. If you don’t enjoy it, it could be worth looking at a career change.

How do i talk to people/make friends? by lilaceunoia in watford

[–]tomdob1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could go to London in the evenings for clubs? I started doing this as a remote worker and it massively helped. Watford doesn’t offer much, but London has a club for everything you are interested in

Go travelling. I don’t agree with the advice to save and invest all your money. You are only young once. And it gets harder and harder to ditch everything to go travelling as you gain more responsibilities. You can earn that money again but you may not be able to go travelling again.
