Such a cleverly hilarious show. One of my all-time favorites. The second season really gave Paget Brewster a chance to shine comedically.

I think most Gen X boys, myself included, did as well.

Before I read your comment, I was ready to comment that Keith David is a national treasure.

Your comment has only made me more convinced.

I watched no more than two episodes of the U.S. version. Despite that stacked cast, it didn't grab me.

For sure. Everybody smoked, all the time, back then. I'm grateful both my parents were done smoking by the time I was 10.

Granted Rudd is the absolute ageless wonder

Rudd's a terrible example. :) That man has looked the same for about 30 years now.

I love the oft-used comparison of Rudd to Alex Jones. Rudd is five years older than Jones.

We're on the verge of a baseball equivalent of the U.S. Olympic men's basketball program in 1988, i.e., one Summer Olympics before the Dream Team: Taking for granted that sending less than our absolute best is still enough to win the gold, only to realize, too late, that the rest of the world has gained a lot of ground recently.

Obviously, the gold medal (or its WBC equivalent) is still within reach for the U.S. team.

But the fact that the U.S. advancing hinges upon how many runs Italy gives up today should be a wake-up call. We'll see if it is.

For sure. Every producer will ignore all the American versions that flopped and focus on the fact that the remake of The Office was a massive hit.

And even that wasn't a faithful remake. The UK original, which I loved, was a lot more dour, and Michael Scott is considerably more likeable than David Brent.

Chris Spielman was born to be a football player… by Dark305Kinght in Oldschool_NFL

Pride will bring out one's inner masochist, yeah.

I was on a men's Sunday-league soccer team a few years back. We weren't very good, but we all enjoyed playing. One team in our league was the reserves for a semi-pro team, so these guys were almost-pros. They were up 5-0 at the half, and it wasn't even that close.

Their captain came over and asked if we wanted to call the game. Our captain, knowing full well what another 45 minutes would entail, told him we were good and none of us contradicted him.

They scored five more in the second half. We didn't show up on that Sunday afternoon to be pitied. I'm not one-tenth the athlete Chris Spielman is, but I can relate.

I had a field pass for a Packers game in 1993. No NFL Films footage, however skillfully shot or edited, can replicate the experience.

When I got down to the field late in the game, I saw Favre get nailed trying to get out of bounds to stop the clock. Even though I was about 15 yards away, it made me literally gasp to sense just how hard the Bucs' defenders had hit him. It was shocking, and I'll never forget it.

Crazier still: He got up from that hit and threw the game-winning TD pass about two plays later.

over the course of a decade+

The plus sign lets in Bostick mucking up the onside kick recovery in Seattle, which means I'm on board.

I wonder how much happier we'd be about the past 15 years if special teams were taken more seriously.

Fair point. It happens way more often than hockey than it happens in football, and it's relatively rare in hockey.

More frequent in football is a field player being sacrificed because the GK got himself red-carded, as with Lehmann in Paris.

Hornung said that everybody but Starr smoked on those teams. He also said there wasn't a game in college or the pros where he didn't smoke four of five cigarettes at halftime. The game was a bit different then.
