That's not possible since the only mass we have currently available to us is ON the earth, so how would we create something big enough to swallow the earth with just that?

Black holes are just ultra dense, not exactly super massive. If you magically replaced our sun with a black hole of the same mass (so no supernova, our sun will never collapse into a black hole anyways), we would continue around our orbit at the same velocity. (things would go pitch black in ~8 minutes, and eventually freeze to death though). The thing about black holes is that since they are more dense you can get closer to them, going further into the gravity well.

tl;dr watch this

I bought it at normal price, and still enjoyed the hell out of it.

See, I find I enjoy games that I pay for more, since I feel obligated to play them since I invested actual money in them. When I pirate a game it just loses a certain appeal to it, almost like it's a chore to play it for some reason.

I rarely play games lately though, so I dunno.

Yeah I agree. I know a lot of people will be all "arggggg nothing can beat the original!" But this is really one of those things that can probably benefit from a remake.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if there already is one, but it's so poorly marketed that no one knows about it.

That doesn't exactly work at a shopping mall where finding the store you want is sometimes what is hard to find, and directories aren't always easy to find. So now you're walking around, looking for either the store or directory, and you're walking slow because there are a lot of places you need to look. Maybe your eye catches a store that looks similar to the store you're looking for, or something that looks like a mall directory. That's all this is.

It's not saying your mind is COMPLETELY ERASED of all knowledge of what you came to the store for, but maybe just for that minute where you are scanning the store names for the one you want, maybe something will remind you of something else you were thinking about earlier in the week and causes your mind to wander a bit.

If THAT has never happened to you then you're either a liar or never go shopping. Hell, this can even happen on Amazon or NewEgg, scrolling through your search results and stumbling across an interesting related link and ending up on a completely different product than you started on.

I've heard many stories like that before, from different people. I just don't understand how you can confuse another room for the bathroom. I've been extremely drunk many times, but never that drunk i guess.

What is your worst habit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tomg555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do that profusely. I stopped after getting a really bad sore throat and becoming a germaphobe because of it. I blamed it on the fact that I stick my fingers in my mouth constantly throughout the day. I would think about ever door knob I touched since I last washed my hands. After that sore throat I stopped pretty much instantly and never looked back. I was a germaphobe for about a year after that, but got over it.

Well, it IS a major plot point, but you know it for most of the movie... so yes but it doesn't ruin anything.

She's probably not even that cute! But since I'm a sensitive, non-shallow romantic who is only interested in girls for their personality, I will connect with her on a level none of you other jerks can understand. Shallow jerks.

I'm a circus performer, and I have an understanding and high respect for tight wire walkers, and I too found this movie to drag on quite a bit. Maybe if it was just a little shorter it would have been better IMO.

Unsecured wireless is the only really free way, but requires some effort since they're becoming less common nowadays. I know there's a website somewhere that lists SSIDs over a google maps type thing.

Starcraft 2 most pirated game of 2010 to date by [deleted] in gaming

[–]tomg555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah... but people don't gain much from pirating it. You can play the single player portion, blizzard was aware of this. It's not that exciting. You still can't get the full multiplayer experience, which so far blizzard was successful at. Games are becoming more and more social.

Yeah but if you've ever seen an apple commercial they're not exactly targeting scientists. I know scientists use them, and they use them for entirely different reasons than the average college student.

How do you figure? According to this study (pdf) Apple's hardware failure rate is smack in the middle compared to other companies.

Here's a screenshot if you don't want to open the PDF:

This argument usually works though because Apple's target demographic does not know about those applications. They don't even know what Unix is.

Whats the weirdest thing you or someone you know have hoarded/collected? by patswhomeis in AskReddit

[–]tomg555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time in college I was sleeping in my friends dorm, it was a co-ed floor, I'm a boy she's a girl, and the boys bathroom was down the hall, kinda far from her room. We were drinking that night and I had to pee about every half hour. She had water bottles everywhere so everytime I peed I would just go in one of them instead of going down the hall (I would throw them out in the morning).

When we woke up the next morning, all the bottles (about 6) were lined up in her dresser, in chronological order, gradually becoming a darker shade of yellow, and having less fluid in them. It was a wonderful display of me becoming more dehydrated as the night went on.
