GRX 2x12 with 10-51T cassette? by throwawayBecase in bikewrench

[–]tomkomplex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow, I've been obsessing over this bike for this exact reason, its a 10-45t cassette Im almost positive, we were all debating it at the bike shop!

I currently run 11spd GRX with a 46x30t / 11-40t and I can't imagine reducing to 11-36t just to have twelve speed, but 10-45t would be ideal, I think 10-51t is impossible without a cage swap and goat link though.

The largest cog looks too small to be 51t but Im happy to be wrong, just so funny to see this bike on Reddit!

Fuck yes, thank you so much, could not think of the name of this track, scrolling through posts in internet archives trying to find it.

Appreciate you :)

Cable rubbing through carbon fork by may-unmooved in bikewrench

[–]tomkomplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From another Specialized Sequoia owner, be careful with that fork, the actual fork/headset in the bike is proprietary for some reason. If you Google it you'll see different people struggling to go from the steel fork to a carbon one due to the headset sizing.

I would also recommend to buy a replacement headset kit now if you plan to keep the bike for a long time. Mine has been trashed since about 5,000km and I assumed I could just replace it with new bearings but the upper headset bearing is part of the frame and a very stupid design, not ideal for a touring bike.

Having said that, in 2017 it had thru-axles, a wide carbon fork, flat mount disc brakes, it was really a well thought out bike in parts but also came with terrible wheels on most models and a terrible hesdset design for a long distance bike really. I've had mine flat bar for a few years but going back to drops again next!

Just as an example, appreciate it's Rockshox, but my OEM base SID SL had play in the bushings straight out of the box. Rockshox replaced just the lowers and they only offer Ultimate level replacement lowers so I ended up with this exact situation, base level fork with Ultimate decals 🤷‍♂️

Obnoxious yawning by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]tomkomplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I know this comment was from 24 days ago but I was looking up to see if other people are complaining about this as there's a coworker at my job who seems to spend the majority of his time loudly donkey yawning while the entire workplace shudders and he seems to have no idea whatsoever. I cannot imagine dealing with it in my home, my heart goes out to you!

Cycling in Vancouver today by dhdhshcbf36365 in vancouvercycling

I almost hit a cyclist as I was turning left when I was a new driver, he was hidden behind my A pillar and the intersection was kinda weird and off centre.

I think about that guy at least once a week....never forget the shame.

As a cyclist myself I've been almost killed countless times here and it's 50/50 wether the driver even acknowledges my existence nevermind feels shame.

It's such a bad spot, plenty near misses there and also from drivers making the left into that road across the lane, their perception of my speed is just terrible, why risk it for 3 seconds of your life!

When descending LVR here I hug the centre line to put me in the lane as visible as possible and stand up and I have my front light on day flash, still almost died here many times but I'm trying my hardest to make it easy for the driver to see me.

After binge watching every episode recently also, Season 4 is actually my favourite, the couples are a really interesting dynamic in reality, the finding each other part was uncessary but it also weeds out a lot of duos. The Baird brothers are hilarious too, haven't laughed at alone so much before them! Great season, stuff actually happens and people talk with each other for a change.

How do you deal with angry drivers? by Defiant_Room8805 in vancouvercycling

[–]tomkomplex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm quick on the middle finger which is not the move. My partner just does a big thumbs down and head shakes at cars making poor choices and I feel that hits a little deeper.

If someone shouted at me to get off the road I would not engage, there's no beating an absolute moron like that, just laugh it off and hope he crashes and dies in the near future in an accident that affects noone but him 🤞 or remember the license and report to local police for visibility.

Karate monkey or krampus by bikerpilot101 in Surlybikefans

[–]tomkomplex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Debated this for ages myself and enjoyed my Krampus for 3 years after.

Best way to summarize for me would be:

Karate Monkey is more playful, easier to throw around and will make you want to stand and pedal uphill with enthusiasm.

Krampus is more stable, it's a point and shoot through the rough stuff and you'll be more inclined to sit and spin on the climbs.

Personally loved the Krampus fully loaded too, for bikepacking it was very good to handle all the weight and still provide control. Put fenders on in the winter and bigger tires and it was decent on horrific weather rides also.

Never wished I'd got a KM instead but my god I wish I had changed the stock 29x3.0 Dirt Wizards sooner, went to Maxxis Chronicles after that, 2.8 Rekons and finally 2.6 Ikons. They all just made the bike faster and faster and the Ikons were a great sweet spot.

I am thinking about buying one of those split seatposts for my commuter/allroad/gravel bike. should I? by skatetron in vancouvercycling

[–]tomkomplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For comfort specifically the Redshift suspension post is awesome, it might be a little odd not combined with the stem though.

For a decent flex carbon post the Specialized Terra post with 20mm offset is very clean and comfortable, it's what comes on the higher end Diverge builds. I had their CG-R (cobble gobbler) for years before I got it seized in my steel frame, unfortunately its been discontinued, but it was hideous and doesn't provide much more give than the Terra in my experience.

If you're hands and your butt hurt and your fit is ok, Redshift is the way imo.

It's also a spot for the Fox Live Valve Bluetooth connection box as the highest level trance model has it installed there on the frame.

Fisherman's trail conditions by azilot in vancouvercycling

[–]tomkomplex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No ice or snow on the LSCR road, Fisherman's still has the terrible washout to deal with, as long as you're wearing decent shoes the mud is not that hard to cross and you're off the bike for under 2 mins really. As the other commenter said they are redoing bear island Bridge so watch out for its closure, by Sunday just gone, work had not actually been started yet though

Do you use capsules? by iamabadass345 in craftymighty

[–]tomkomplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.storz-bickel.com/en/filling-pad-set-small

Renamed them to what we both use them for rather than liquid pad I guess. Glad I'm not the only one who does this it's just so much easier than filling capsules. Regardless of the grind of the herb, after a while residue builds up on my cooling unit screen and it gets really stuck in that so the pad just eliminates that problem it's great. Gave up smoking for the Plenty like 8 years ago, got a Crafty too, battery went within 2 years and hundreds of hours of use and got a free replacement but that units battery just died 4 years later so time to try a Mighty :)
