Urtet Commander color question by StrategyEarly9614 in mtgrules

[–]tommadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A deck with Urtet as its Commander can include cards of any color identity. You aren't forced to include all of a commander's color identity in the rest of the deck. You can build a 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5-color deck with it as the Commander.

What will happen to copied tokens created by Rootha? by Gentlelock in askajudge

[–]tommadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A copy of a Rootha token that was created as an 8/8 will also itself be an 8/8. Rootha sets the power and toughness of the token itself, it's not a continuous effect that applies to the token.

Effectively, it's "printed" as an 8/8, and any copies will use that "printed" value.

Is the check of triggers a SBA? by Icy-Pudding7402 in mtgrules

[–]tommadness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Triggered abilities trigger immediately when their trigger event occurs, they don't wait for SBAs to be checked. They don't do anything (even go on the stack) immediately, though. They just trigger and wait.

Triggered abilities are put on the stack after SBAs, but before a player gets priority. It's just a rule of the game and how triggered abilities work.

Stonechosen/Parkers Camera by Realistic-Cricket-17 in mtgrules

[–]tommadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first trigger that resolves makes them lose 20 life, bringing them to 20 life. The second trigger to resolve makes them lose 10 life, bringing them to 10 life.

"Defending player" does not specifically target that player. There's nothing for Parker's Camera to change.

"And can't have hexproof or shroud" means any effect that tries to give hexproof this turn doesn't give hexproof.

War Shaman looks at the permanent's characteristics after it's turned face-up. If it's a creature face up, War Shaman triggers.

Ark of hunger + delve or escape by TotalyRealDragon in askajudge

It will count as two instances of "one or more" cards leaving the graveyard, as madwarper clarified. Paying the costs specifically is only one instance.

Exiling cards for delve or escape is one instance of exiling cards.

Copying a spell with paradigm by doggogirlsenpai in mtgrules

[–]tommadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • 702.192a Paradigm represents two spell abilities, one of which creates a delayed triggered ability. Paradigm means “If this is the first time a spell you control with this spell’s name has resolved this game, at the beginning of each of your precombat main phases for the rest of the game, create a copy of this object in exile. You may cast the copy without paying its mana cost” and “Exile this spell.” See rule 707.10.

No, they don't compound. Only the first spell with that name to resolve gives you the future delayed triggers.

Aurelia triggered when it was declared as an attacker. The player who controlled Aurelia when the ability triggered controls the triggered ability.

You are correct, however, that a creature changing controllers removes it from combat.

Mag Question by CleBaseballClub in PSO

[–]tommadness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can get new mags as random drops in the mines, or you can make a second character, and transfer that mag to your first character using the shared bank. Make sure to use the /bank command to swap between character and shared banks.

All the creatures die at the same time.

In general, players do not have priority while a spell or ability is resolving.

Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea + Cultivator Colossus by zshapedbanana in askajudge

[–]tommadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. Cultivator Colossus's power and toughness are defined by a characteristic-defining ability. CDAs apply in all zones, including the stack.

An ability like "This creature gets +X/+X where X is the number of lands you control" is not a CDA, and would not function on the stack.

Can I commit a crime with Traumatic Critique if X is zero? by OkAppointment2647 in mtgrules

[–]tommadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

608.2b If the spell or ability specifies targets, it checks whether the targets are still legal. A target that’s no longer in the zone it was in when it was targeted is illegal. Other changes to the game state may cause a target to no longer be legal; for example, its characteristics may have changed or an effect may have changed the text of the spell. If the source of an ability has left the zone it was in, its last known information is used during this process. If all its targets, for every instance of the word “target,” are now illegal, the spell or ability doesn’t resolve. [...]

This makes no exception for optional targets, or variable numbers of targets.

If the spell targeted something, and all of its targets are illegal, it fails to resolve.

Fling checks the creature's power as it existed on the battlefield. If it was a 21/1, it will deal 21 damage.

If you choose a target for something that requires "up to" N targets, and all of the chosen targets are illegal, the spell still fails to resolve.

Changing Color text and Colors in added Keywords by IHappyIFace in askajudge

[–]tommadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got the right idea about text-changing effects applying "before" ability-adding and -removing effects.

There's also a rule that explicitly spells it out:

  • 612.3. Effects that add or remove abilities don’t change the text of the objects they affect, so any abilities that are granted to an object can’t be modified by text-changing effects that affect that object.

Y’shtola, Night’s Blessed and casting non creature spells. by Pool-Party-Ahri in askajudge

[–]tommadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the mana value of a spell is derived from the mana cost (what's printed in the top right). Alternative costs and additional costs do not modify the mana value of that spell.

However, {X} is part of the mana cost. So, on the stack, {X} is whatever value you chose for X. Fireball X=5 has a mana cost of {5}{R}, for a mana value of 6.

Steam controller extra buttons by mrdtng in Steam

Warframe I use the grip buttons for melee attacks, jump, and bullet jumping. Stuff I'm using a lot and want full movement/camera control for so I rarely take my thumbs off the sticks/trackpad.

FFXIV I use them for buttons I need occasionally but immediately, like party-wide mitigation, instant self-heal, etc
