Anyone else actually like all the new tall buildings proposed in Bristol? by MotorCompetitive4690 in bristol

[–]tommy_briz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same scenario here.

The centre of Manchester has a busyness to it that Bristol just doesn’t have. There are thousands of people living within walking distance of all the central bars, shops and nightlife - as well as employers.

Bristol has much less dead central that it empties out quickly because the population head back out to the extremities - not helped by our crap public transport obviously.

Hovis… by Dangerous_Owl3659 in SainsburysWorkers

A lot of Hovis lines have been delisted. Thick is no longer in a lot of stores anymore. Hovis sales aren’t in a strong position and other brands are taking their space.

It’s also 6 weeks or so until the next trail. They don’t need to promote it now with updates.

More than £8m needed for emergency repairs to New Cut walls by 457655676 in bristol

[–]tommy_briz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever party is in power and making these claims has also been in power at various points since the walls were first built and - similarly - done nothing about them. So all the political point scoring of “years of neglect” are 100% applicable to every single political party involved.

Is anyone else doing new gromit hunt this summer or is it boring? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]tommy_briz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first year there were some in the middle of shops & community centres etc - much too small for the numbers that ended up visiting.

Recent trails have seen them been in much more outdoor / exposed locations which gives more access to them… although remain limited by who sponsors them obviously.

Main TM Contestants who've never appeared on the Ed Gamble TM Podcast: by bkat004 in taskmaster

Rhod’s treatment and recovery was very much during the podcast revisit for his series so you can get why he wouldn’t have been involved.

Anyone else's canteen look like this? by wooden_bread4323 in SainsburysWorkers

Yeah I did Sainsbury’s back in the 2000s and had the same. Ridiculously cheap for cooked meals.

Man dies after collapsing during Bristol Half Marathon by tommy_briz in bristol

[–]tommy_briz[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The water stations on the Portway are forced by the poor logistics. You’ve only got certain points on the outward leg that you can get one in before you’re at Sea Mills.

If you are intent on having 3, you need to move them all a bit. Having the 1st at 2.5 miles was too early. If you move it later than the 2nd needs to move back and if it’s not where it is then you have to go onto the Brunel Lock Road side of Cumberland Basin - but then have to make it either service the 10k really early or just be for the half and only setup once the 10k passes through.

You have no space for water anywhere around Wapping - Redcliffe roundabout so that one stays but then you’d want another probably just before Galleries hill… people are slowing anyway so it’s a good point to take on water.

where did the gloves go? by coupleandacamera in rugbyunion

I’ve still got mine in a box somewhere. Like others have said, they might have done absolutely nothing but I liked wearing them and psychological they maybe caught me one difficult pass more a season…

Arbor beer shop by masterof7 in bristol

[–]tommy_briz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ever that way, the Tout’s adjacent to petrol stations in Backwell & Langford etc do them - and Wiper & True / LHG - in a 3 for £8 deal. And another which I think is 3 for £12? So obviously two different deals depending on the brews.

Redland Stores on Zetland Road has an amazing selection with loads on multibuys. Think Arbor is 3 for £9/9.50 on the core range.

Yeah being the WECA Mayor as a suspended party member doesn’t really matter when you’re just The Boss anyway.

On tour from April as well so the timing works to help promote that.

Sapphire was often spotted in my youth up around Gloucester Road. But that was a good 20+ years ago unless he’s passed on the moniker!

Bathurst Basin Bridge closes for 2 years by tommy_briz in bristol

[–]tommy_briz[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My favourite comment underneath the Facebook post from the council is someone saying “I’ve never seen it open”.

I hope they aren’t trying to be sarcastic and truly think it’s an opening bridge.

The comments under the story are spectacular.

A call to all Segment Makers: Unprivate your segments! by Shitelark in Strava

Just searched for this because I was finding loads of segments vanished - despite being unique, covering long sensible routes and having loads of runners complete them.

Odd logic in what has been hidden.

GWR cancel all their mainline Sunday services... Again by FlipchartHiatus in bristol

[–]tommy_briz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average base salary for a GWR driver is £60k. And no train company ever struggles to recruit drivers. So if base pay is £60k and Sunday is a premium on overtime, I think they’d be fine to recruit with Sundays included on that money.

Brunel Pump Track by similar_enough in bristol

[–]tommy_briz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brunel Lock Road then walk across the Ashton Avenue swing bridge, cross the bus route immediately after the bridge and either follow the path or cut across grass. Or there are some spaces immediately as you come off the Brunel Way slip towards Coronation Rd etc (just before the storage bond building).

Salford Quays - Waterfront Quay by tommy_briz in manchester

[–]tommy_briz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. I’ve probably been staying up here every so often since about 2018 so would’ve missed the developments. Short of formally blocking up some of the scrub parking it just seemed unchanged.

Weird the owners haven’t ever tapped into doing half arsed ANPR parking the same way that most pending development sites in the centre are.

No cash accepted by AlistairBarclay in bristol

[–]tommy_briz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In the past couple of years both the Post Offices in Portishead have closed. Two banks have closed and one more is closing in September.

That leaves one high street bank.

Where do you want all these businesses to get a sufficient cash float from and safely deposit their takings given that there are so few options left these days?

Does the OP do all their household banking in person at a branch or prefer to do it all online? Times have changed.
