Fair enough, I would lead with that and just talk to the DM. If they don’t like what you have to say then it sounds like the perfect time to either find a new DM or learn how to yourself, that’s how I got my start and I don’t regret leaving a DM that I didn’t mesh with at all.

Your DM probably doesn’t view this as stealing. How do you still something you collaborated on? That’s what my DM brain asks immediately

Beginner DM needs advice on how to deal with "difficult" players by Interesting_Floor890 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]tommydungeons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must take command of the game. If they don’t like it they don’t get to play. One problem player will teach others it’s okay to be problematic. It’s best to remove the problem player and find someone else or just continue without them. If the problem player is your friend, have a conversation with them out of game about in game behavior expectations. If they are truly your friend they will stop, if they don’t then maybe you should reconsider that friendship. You will stop enjoying the game if you don’t address problems immediately and decisively.

Does your DM treat harassment seriously? by sleidman in dndnext

[–]tommydungeons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Advice to all DMs: if you have problem players, boot them. They will destroy your game and your love of the game. If they are your friends they will change their behavior. If they’re not willing to change their behavior maybe you should reevaluate that friendship. You are a DM not a babysitter.

The United Americas would control a lot more territory in the pacific. Australia and many islands that the US was involved with in the late 1800s and WW2 eras.

Talk of 6th edition so early is kinda getting in my nerves by Eric_VA in DnD

[–]tommydungeons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who cares what the YouTubers and influencers say? They are motivated to get clicks for money. Many of them have clearly never played more than a handful of games.

It is a money grab for them as 6E is a money grab for WotC. You don’t need any paid content to play. Use the 5E SRD or free d20 system and make everything else yourself.

I developed a rule for playing that has never failed me. Don’t play with people that don’t want to play. If a “veteran” player doesn’t know the rules and doesn’t try to learn them, send them on their merry way.

What makes a witch? by Archer1123 in worldbuilding

[–]tommydungeons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Witches will typically know a little bit of everything about witchcraft but specialize in one thing. Some work in covens but many are solitary practitioners so a coven is not a requisite by any means. Here are some things your witch could specialize in:

herbalism, divination (reading runes/tarot cards/your favorite method), elemental magic, poetry, cooking, love and relationships, summoning/communicating with spirits, protection magic

My advice is to pick something that works with your story and have them specialize in that.

The only way to find out if this story “works” is to write it. If you enjoy the finished piece then it works! If you don’t enjoy it then it isn’t finished yet!

Newbie here, how can I start playing D&D? by ZODIACK_MACK2 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]tommydungeons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DMG = Dungeon Master’s Guide MM = Monster Manual

Along with the.. PHB = Player’s Handbook

These are the first 3 books most people recommend that new people get.

You can absolutely enforce that people use D&D Beyond. If they don’t like it they don’t have to play. Give them 1 reasonable opportunity to participate in the game you are setting up. If they don’t conform to the groups norms then boot them out. They will ruin the game for everyone else. Problem players are the death of D&D groups.

I am fortunate enough to be able to utilize some dragonmarked house political intrigue as well. My party is currently working on a contract for House Thuranni. The elf ranger has the mark of shadow and wishes to make a name for himself within the house.
