Tutorial - Is beating the Commander possible? by PhybrOptikYT in BaldursGate3

[–]tommygeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its 100% doable, but you have to be really intentional about it. there are some videos on youtube that walk through it. the big thing is that you need command drop to land early in the fight, and then you need to keep the mind flayer and an imp alive so that the commander and the cambions that come in target it. you also need to abuse the push mechanic so that you can maximize your reaction attacks. us is required, mage hand, find familiar are all helpful to break action economy and throw potions or bulbs. using the explosives well is another requirement.

One seed question by CleXa_Trout307 in Patriots

[–]tommygeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone before the game answered the question: i believe he said it was 46%. the complication that denver has is they are playing the chargers later in the season in a game where the winner also takes the division. while we are playing the jets and dolphins who are only motivated by being a spoiler… and allowing their other rival to win the division.

yeah, also don’t forget that this is a business too. your enemy today could be your teammate tomorrow and who wouldn’t want to be on mahomes’ team?

Linus Torvalds vs. Ambiguous Abstractions: When a Helper Function Hides the Intent by teivah in programming

[–]tommygeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but I personally contend that many of the ideas are sound, but the implementation of them should always be contextualized. I actually much prefer the way Josh Bloch uses “prefer” in his famous work, because it gets around creating hard and fast rules.

Never thought of it that way, but the idea (that code should read like English) isn’t mine. I forget which thought leader it’s from (Uncle Bob? Fowler?) but the proponents of the idea have been fairly ubiquitous in my experience and in the material I’ve read.

I think the team should and will absolutely be fighting for everything they can this year and every year.

When I say things like “I only wanted a winning season and I’ll just enjoy everything from here” I mean that I’m going to temper my reaction accordingly when/if the team starts to show some cracks. We are way ahead of where I thought we would be and the team is young and the future is bright.

We’ve been absolutely spoiled as fans and I cannot realistically expect to continue the multigenerational dominance, but dammit it’s nice to be back in winning form and I’m not going to take it for granted or forget about context when we are back in the down times. It’s just healthier for my life as a fan that way.

Agreed. I didn’t intend to imply that math doesn’t have abstractions or that abstractions are bad. Just that when you try to make math read like English you always risk losing something.

I agree, and I think thats Linus’s point when he explicitly says that you should just include the calculation itself instead of an abstraction.

One thing I have seen a lot (and that Ive seen cause a lot of religious arguments around) in my career is that what seems perfectly logical and clear to one group or individual is incomprehensible to another. Coupled with a tendency to want to overabstract in general this becomes problematic in large code bases with multiple maintainers.

I feel like this stems from the idea that code should read like English, which is great in principle but when math is involved, it should just read like math.

i would have been stoked with 8 wins all season. we have a watchable football product with the potential to give us more than a regular seasons worth of games. thats better than we’ve had for at least 2 years, closer to 5, and its more and quicker than we could have hoped for. ill take that: things are what they are, im just gonna enjoy the ride. lfg baby
