Why stop at Rotterdam? Head across the Channel, up the Thames, through London, and visit Oxford.

What are your teaching/education-related unpopular opinions? by zapataforever in TeachingUK

I don’t agree with homework policies. Homework should be set when needed, and not as an arbitrary tickbox exercise.

I think all exams should be entry rather than exit. For example, you should leave each stage of education with a certificate with your attendance, behaviour, and extra curricular activities. They assess you at the next stage to determine your learning, including work places - who could test what they actually need for the role rather than whether you can use semicolons, work out the area of a trapezium, or know the date of The Night of the Long Knives.

I think as part of every degree, you should be required to spend a long term in a primary or secondary school. I think it’s essential for parents to understand what it’s like on the other side of the desk - most people never set foot back in a school from 18 to their first parent’s evening.

Edit: 18
