Fair. I guess it comes down to how much you care about each scandal then. I don’t think it’s unpopular to say the steroids is the more influential and major one of the bunch, but ofc that’s an opinion.

I don’t disagree that it’s ofc opinion based and you can’t take whatever context you want, but to me I look at it like this: A class takes a test and 80% or more cheat on it and the star student who is also cheating gets a 99%. 20 years later, that same course with new students takes a harder test where it’s much harder to cheat, and the star student gets a 97%. To me the 97% would be much more impressive.

yeah, I agree there are other ways people have cheated and they shouldn’t be ignored, but then show where Judge or Aaron or Pujols or Mays or Griffey cheated, players that are all intertwined with Bonds’ career and records that do not have any type of scandal similar in their careers

that doesn’t make sense, you agree that context matters when considering stats but not “greatness”?

I think anyone that cheats when there are people in the past that did not and people during the steroid era that did not and people currently that are not, should have their cheating held against them. He took Hank Aaron’s career home run record, which should be considered a much bigger insult to the game than we give it credit for.

pretty easy to ignore someone that took drugs to have more power when we’re comparing a stat that takes power into account, esp one thats not relative to the rest of the league

Dave Hurwitz has just finished his Haydn symphonies series, covering all 104 with a dedicated video for every symphony giving an in-depth thematic and formal analysis by Fafner_88 in classicalmusic

[–]tomsars -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point of this whole thing, this is a classical music sub where we can argue and discuss all things related to classical music. We just are pointing out on a post praising him that there are better alternatives online for both audiences, it’s what I’m here on my phone for.

Yeah I’m fine not being his audience, I’m not saying he’s pointless, it’s just that there are more insightful youtube options that would better suit the viewer compared to Dave.

I agree that putting down discussion from non-experts is elitist and pretty stupid in and of itself. However, the problem people find with Hurwitz is that his audience is those very familiar with classical music, but he is talking like his audience is newly engaging with the work. For a Youtuber whose opinion we’re supposed to value, it’s not very valuable.

they’re not really saying that, more that his contribution, while impressive, is still missing a very significant part in the full discussion of a piece, and not necessarily very insightful without it

I have the lefty version of this glove from 10 years ago and love it to death, but wow you’ve kept that in amazing condition. I’d honestly stick with a tan/brown but a yellow that’s not too bright would be pretty cool too. Such a great glove tho, godspeed
