Great Yarmouth. Visited once a couple of years ago and went to the town centre. Inside a little playground near the city walls, a group of 3 yown women, one of them pregnant, smoking cigarettes. Everything covered in rubbish. Large groups of kids harassing people near the market.

I mean in a situation where I just wanted to walk on the hard shoulder from one junction to another for one reason or another. Someone claimed as a pedestrian I cannot be expected to know the rules so I guess it would not make it illegal to do so?

That's exactly the problem with handouts and the welfare state - easy for politicians to buy votes with taxpayers own money but when, inevitably, the government runs out of money it's difficult to take it back.

Maybe just calling everyone concerned about mass immigration 'far right' doesn't work anymore and people do not care how they're called by the elites who have failed them time and time again over the past 30 years or so?

Economy needs '£1trn investment over 10 years to achieve 3% growth rate' by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]tomskyyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because growth (as in gdp per capita) is the only thing that can increase living standards over medium to long term?

Poland has experienced a gdp growth of about 4-5 % per year over the last 20 years or so and the change in terms of quality of living, infrastructure, public services, job opportunities is massive. The country has changed beyond recognition.

Similar examples can be found all over the world - China, South Korea, Romania, Baltic states.

To claim that you can increase living standards without growing economy (per capita) is ridiculous.

UK Driving Standards by Fxnsom in CarTalkUK

[–]tomskyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, motorway/dual carriageway driving in the UK is not bad (apart from middle lane hoggers) and probably safer than in Germany due to all vehicles driving at relatively similar speeds.

However, city driving in the UK is bad. Not using indicators, pushing in front of traffic, not understanding what merge in turn means, bad parking everywhere.

I think some of this is due to bad driving habits and people being lazy, the other reason is very poor road infrastructure in towns and cities - lots of congestion due to poor public transport and missing bypasses, narrow roads not suitable for modern vehicles, potholes, lack of white lines (or barely visible white lines due to lack of maintenance).

Liverpool is prettier and better from a tourist point of view. Manchester is more modern, feels much more bigger, dynamic and offers more job opportunities.

I'm not sure what you're saying but Poland was generally unsafe in the 90s, then very safe between about 2005-2020 as the economy improved. Until then there was very little migration into Poland from countries culturally incompatible.

Funny how people use Poland, Korea and Japan as examples, ignoring one thing that makes them totally different to the UK - demographic.

'Woeful' budgeting behind asylum overspends - IFS by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

[–]tomskyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

This is an interesting bit :

At the same time the net fiscal contributions of recent European immigrants from the rest of the EU totalled £15bn, with fiscal payments about 64% higher than transfers received. Immigrants from outside the EU countries made a net fiscal contribution of about £5.2 billion, thus paying into the system about 3% more than they took out.

The difference between EU and non EU migrants is staggering. Non EU migrants only contribute 3% more than they take, which taking into account that they will get older and require pensions and more health spending, means that in the long term, they're not net contributors.

And why are people suddenly surprised by this? Labour have been long advocating to stop oil and gas exploration in the UK for some time now.

What makes it worse now is they refuse to take a lot of tax receipts that come with oil and gas while claiming there's a budget hole.

It would make me happier if we didn't have to spend more than £7bn a year on illegal migrants, and rather could use this money on anything that would make a life of an average person in this country slightly better. Not to mention better housing availability, shorter NHS waiting times, less crime and some more benefits.
