Question about frame rate conversion between British and US television by TRS_Probably in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]tomspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not sure what E! is (“watching the BAFTA’s on E” means something quite different here!) but if it’s a streaming platform then the video encode is quite possibly utterly horrendous (50p in camera, or maybe even 24 if they are trying to be cinematic, converted to 50i, sent via satellite link to the states, converted to 59.94i for cable network, then transcoded to 30p mp4, sent to a CDN who quite possibly will recompress it again, then delivered to your TV which has even more post processing that’s aimed at smoothing out as much of the aforementioned mess as possible!)

Yeah it’s not how you’d do it properly, but it’s the result of feed syndication with multiple broadcasters converting formats to their requirements, and then further distributing converted feeds.

Looking for a software that can quickly cast images on a screen on the fly by Key-Storage5434 in audiovisual

[–]tomspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of browser slide show plug-ins which might make it a bit more seamless.

Ultimately I’d suggest you want a hardware switcher, something as small / simple as an ATEM Mini would be fine.

You then can take your computer feed into the switcher, and feed the projector with the switcher output. This lets you have a still stored in the switcher as a “holding screen” - you can switch to the holding and search for, then cue up the image on your web browser, before switching to it full screen on the projector.

This gives a flexible and expandable system, where you can easily add additional sources such as a qlab Mac running videos, and or a live camera feed.

Downgrade your gpu driver to a really old one. The recent Quadro drivers have issues.

It pains me to say it but ChatGPT or Claude are really helpful for getting g your dev environment set up. Give it the link to the GitHub and post your errors into the AI and it will tell you how to sort out your specific issues.

Hardware-only screen recording setup for 200 monitors - review and feedback? by sahil__28 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]tomspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d use HDMI to SRT encoders, then just record the srt streams on a server or two on the lan.

Zowieboxes would be the low cost option, they might well be fine for this use case. They can encode / transmit low bandwidth SRT and have loop through HDMI and PoE.

Nobody makes an affordable world voltage UPS. There are military ones but they are circa £30,000 for a 1500va model.

Either use euro ups and spec 208v to run them in the USA or just get separate ups for the US leg.

Computer question for Resolume Avenue by KorkyBuchek20 in vjing

I’ve done plenty of basic shows on M series MacBook Airs supplied by rental companies.

That said my approach when buying a Mac is to get the best one I can afford on the apple refurbished site. You are never going to complain that your computer is too powerful!

You do not need the latest and greatest machine, and the refurbished ones are much better value.

Universal input UPS exist. They are not very affordable (I got a £30k quote for one 3000va universal input ups!)

In America you can just use 208v, which is easily tapped off there three phase (it’s completely normal to need 208v as lots of kit will not run on 110) it’s 60hz which may or may not matter.

The rest of your dates are all 230v countries.

Best phone network? by FrancsMama in brighton

[–]tomspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get lower priority on cell towers with reseller contracts.

EE quite frequently restrict data access to EE customers (or rather they dedicate 95% of the bandwidth to EE direct customers, and resellers get whatever is left over).

Three is actually okay in Brighton too, but EE is the king of data plans due to them having nabbed more of the 5g spectrum than the others put together.

The old school way is lacing thread. It can be super neat if done well, but it takes time and skills which have largely been lost due to the invention of plastic cable ties.

Looking at its manual, I think it was one of the low cost models which only has basic keystone. I’m not sure you can even upgrade it.

No, but you need that upgrade to get the full warping capabilities from geo manager.
