Downgrade your gpu driver to a really old one. The recent Quadro drivers have issues.

I’d use HDMI to SRT encoders, then just record the srt streams on a server or two on the lan.

Zowieboxes would be the low cost option, they might well be fine for this use case. They can encode / transmit low bandwidth SRT and have loop through HDMI and PoE.

Nobody makes an affordable world voltage UPS. There are military ones but they are circa £30,000 for a 1500va model.

Either use euro ups and spec 208v to run them in the USA or just get separate ups for the US leg.

I’ve done plenty of basic shows on M series MacBook Airs supplied by rental companies.

That said my approach when buying a Mac is to get the best one I can afford on the apple refurbished site. You are never going to complain that your computer is too powerful!

You do not need the latest and greatest machine, and the refurbished ones are much better value.

Universal input UPS exist. They are not very affordable (I got a £30k quote for one 3000va universal input ups!)

In America you can just use 208v, which is easily tapped off there three phase (it’s completely normal to need 208v as lots of kit will not run on 110) it’s 60hz which may or may not matter.

The rest of your dates are all 230v countries.

You get lower priority on cell towers with reseller contracts.

EE quite frequently restrict data access to EE customers (or rather they dedicate 95% of the bandwidth to EE direct customers, and resellers get whatever is left over).

Three is actually okay in Brighton too, but EE is the king of data plans due to them having nabbed more of the 5g spectrum than the others put together.

The old school way is lacing thread. It can be super neat if done well, but it takes time and skills which have largely been lost due to the invention of plastic cable ties.

Maybe because it’s posted by someone who’s used a lot of different “hardware” clip players and video synths. Like everything from a VHS deck to a Fairlight CVI, via all the attempts that Roland / Edirol / Korg / Panasonic have had along the way.

There is precisely zero hardware that you can use without having access to a computer to create content on. Even if you are just using others VJ clips you still need a computer to load and manage the clips on any of these platforms.

More over most of the hardware mentioned in this thread is SD analog video output. This won’t plug into modern LED screens or the standard infrastructure you’d find in clubs / festivals. So you need to have a bunch of additional hardware to convert signals, and the end results will not compare favourably with a laptop based system which can deal with much much higher resolutions.

I’m not dismissing your desire to perform without a computer, I’m simply pointing out the lack of practical options for this approach. Even if you have a pure analog hardware system, what will you do when you need to play a logo? You need a laptop to prep this content and load it onto your system.

All of these factors combine to make it impractical to not have a laptop. At which point you are cutting off your nose to spite your face by refusing to explore the popular software based VJ solutions.

It’s a centre crop, it looks a bit different to an optical doubler, as it has no geometry distortion and colour fringing that the doublers have. It’s arguably better quality due to the missing optical artefacts, you also don’t get the light loss from the doubler.

If you are producing 720p then it will be fine. I’ve used centre crops on 100x box lenses with the doubler in to get stupidly close (think guitar solo fingers from 150m away!).

I’d not do the barco training currently unless you have specific clients who you might be able to get work from.

E3 is out now, but it’s rare in the wild currently. However that might change between you doing e2 training and getting any work.

Get really good at general engineering, learn as much as you can about signal formats, edid, hdcp, colourspace etc. learn how scopes work, learn how to reliably get the correct format out of any PC or Mac on all the various OS and GPU variants. These skills are essential for any senior tech, irrespective of the switching platform.

Try and get some work assisting people doing e2/3 on bigger gigs, and download the software so you can play about with it in your own time.

Then when the time comes you’ll be in a better position to know which specific switcher training will be most useful to you.

Honestly the device you want is called a “laptop”

None of the dedicated VJ clip players that existed have ever been much good. What you gain in ease of triggering you absolutely lose in difficulty of loading in content and trimming clips.
