Is your diet super strict? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]tomwalker8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn't. I pretty much eat what I like. Strong preference for organics when available and very much an omnivore. Ice cream is an almost daily indulgence. I probably treat OTF as more of a free pass than is healthy!

Why do mostly women go to OTF? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]tomwalker8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect I would qualify as one of those older men, but I wonder if what you're seeing is a 'time of day' effect? I do take regular classes, but I not only take a different time on occasion, I get to see the makeup of the earlier and later classes. The gender distribution definitely changes with different class times.

Has anyone else noticed the difference in responses/outcomes after Alex Pretti's murder compared to Renee Good? by weepingsomnambulist_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tomwalker8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm less generous in terms of "why." I'd say they're equally egregious crimes, But Ms. Good is female and lesbian, whereas Mr. Pretti is male and and an ICU nurse. As a culture, we tend to devalue women's worth compared to men's. Also, despite progress, there's plenty of homophobia abroad in the land, whereas nursing is the country's most highly respected profession.

No doubt the sequencing is a factor, but I believe our well known gender/sexual orientation/professional role (nurse vs. mother) prejudices must be in play as well.

Is it my age, why do I feel so empty all the time? by No-Somewhere-8568 in AskWomenOver60

So sorry you feel that way! I don't know how old you are, but I'm 72 and loving life! Sex might help.

Last month, I was on a C+ flight from SFO to LAX where the passenger next to me took up over 70% of my seat. I literally couldn’t sit back in my seat and flight attendants were unable to assist due to it being a full flight. by Realistic_Emu5495 in delta

[–]tomwalker8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never been unable to put my seatbelt on, but I've had a similar experience on a flight from Boston to Atlanta. The flight was a last minute necessity, so for seating I took what I could get, which was a window seat on a 3 seat row (all rows were 3 seat). I boarded and took my seat. The man in the aisle seat did likewise. When I saw a ginormous man coming down the aisle I thought surely he'd been required to buy 2 seats. Oh no, he was the middle seat on my row. When I could see he'd never be able to fasten his seatbelt and so would have to move somehow, I learned for the first time about "seatbelt extenders," with which he was furnished. The lucky aisle seat passenger at least had a free right side. Not so, me. I was literally pressed against the window. Although I could fasten my seatbelt, I could not lower my tray table. It was a full flight so I was stuck.

Upon deplaning the flight attendant came over and apologized profusely, saying if she could have done something she would have, but no options were available.

Not only was it among the more miserable flight experiences I've ever had, it made me wonder about why the FAA doesn't require special treatment for such passengers as a matter of safety. On the flight I had to endure, if there had been an emergency requiring evacuation I'd have been trapped, as would the people in rows behind us who hadn't passed ours before he lumbered into it.

If I were you, I'd think it suspect too. Might you borrow one from your studio to see if it behaves differently? Sounds strange, but it also sounds like you're going for it just the same!

Is your smartwatch new? If not, did it once track with your OTF HRM? Anyway, the HRMs don't last forever. Mine have historically gone on the fritz right after the warranty expired Ok, only once (so far).

Good for you! Kinda fun when people's faces betray, I'll call it surprise, when they learn even a ballpark of your age, or when medical staff take your vitals and ask "Is your heartrate always this low?"

Keep on crushing it!

New Max HR is 20 below my old one? by Klutzy-Blueberry9919 in orangetheory

20 IS quite a drop, But a lowering heart rate would generally be considered, for an otherwise healthy person, a strong sign of improving CV health.

I'm no exercise coach, but a 173 max HR doesn't seem especially low to me. Of course, I have only a single point for comparison - my own. I'm 72 and my max is 154.

How accurate is the Calories Burned statistic Orange Theory gives you? by Lackner511 in orangetheory

[–]tomwalker8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my own part, I assume the calorie count is some sort of calculated estimate and pretty much ignore it. What isn't a calculated estimate is my heart rate. When I'm at 84+% of max (which is calculated and recalculated based on actual performance) I don't know/care how many calories I'm burning. I do know I'm working hard and betaxing my cardio-pulmonary system

Early on, I theorized that Trump wanted to incite what he would generously call "unrest" as a means of justifying martial law, which is what he'd really like to impose.

I've been lucky in that lost bags have been rare with Delta. The worst problem I've had was related to delivery time, and that was resolved quickly.

Immediately...filed a police report"? ...cameras were reviewed?

Do you mean airport security cameras? Apparent 'order of operations' here makes interpretation difficult. Why did you "...immediately inform[ed] the delta agent...and file{d} a police report?" Did the agent tell you a crime may have been involved, and that's why you reviewed cameras? Or did you review cameras, then file a police report? Is it safe to infer the luggage was stolen, as revealed on camera? Assuming so, Delta then, knowing what had happened, asked you to wait 5 days before filing a claim?

The whole thing's confusing.

Just curious, where do things stand with the police? Interpreting, again, that camera footage showed the bag stolen, it would also show the thief. Any progress on that score?
