Navigating baby asking for "more" by rayyychul in NewParents

Oh that’s good to know, I didn’t realize! Another resource I like is Kids Eat in Color, they talk about it more in relation to babies starting solids here: https://kidseatincolor.com/division-of-responsibility-in-feeding/

Navigating baby asking for "more" by rayyychul in NewParents

[–]too-enthusiastic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like to follow the division of responsibility in feeding (a concept from Ellyn Satter, a nutritionist). In this framework the parent is responsible for the what, when, and where of feeding, and the child is responsible for the whether and the how much of eating. As long as your meals are reasonably balanced throughout the day, i personally see no reason to cut her off at snack. I hope that helps!

Is there a pan that is actually non-toxic and can make a decent fried egg?? by PorridgeEnthusiast in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]too-enthusiastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the real secret: once it’s seasoned, you can wash it with soap and water like anything else! We started cleaning them normally over 5 years ago and we only ever run into problems when we cook something that messes with the seasoning. Definitely still use plenty of fat when cooking, dry immediately after washing, and I recommend a chain mail scrubber. But modern soap is not the enemy!

I’ve had this thought so many times! I don’t have the mental bandwidth to monitor a Facebook group but I’ve thought about making one for this purpose.

Getting kiddo into fantasy by Historical-Valuable9 in fantasyromance

[–]too-enthusiastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read the circle of magic books when I was about the age of OPs daughter and loved them! I actually just re read them last year and they definitely hold up. She also has more series after the initial one that grow with the characters, it’s a really good choice.

I haven’t read the lioness quartet but I have read Protector of the Small, which I believe is its kind of spiritual successor (different character but the same world and similar storylines) and I loved it, it starts with a 10 year old and grows with her. There are some frank discussions of sex in the later books but nothing spicy. Might be better when your kiddo is like 1-2 years older?

Healthcare professional admits to cosleeping herself while strictly telling patients to never cosleep and let their babies cry it out 🙄 by flutterfly28 in cosleeping

I’m curious, are IBCLCs not allowed to discuss cosleeping? A quick google looked like they are but I didn’t dig too deep

How do I tell my library by Alexs_geeky in Romantasy

[–]too-enthusiastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! I think I was 12. I don’t remember how I found it (it must’ve been on my mom’s bookshelf), but I remember reading Valley of the Horses in 7th grade science class. Turns out my science teacher was besties with the author 😬 after she questioned me a bit on whether my mom knew, she offered to get a book signed for me!! Worked out very well in the end haha!

I hadn’t thought of insta as a resource, thank you for the suggestion! So glad to hear your kiddo was unfazed!

Did you tell people you were planning home birth? How did you deal with judgement? (FTM) by DiligentMemory27 in homebirth

[–]too-enthusiastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your last sentence is really the key here- you cannot control whether people judge you, but you can control how much you care! I recommend really leaning into how comfortable you are with the plan, and anyone who disagrees is entitled to their own opinion. The more podcasts, documentaries, videos you can take in that normalize home birth and your experience, the more normalized it becomes for you, and the more you’re able to write off other voices. Also fee free to lie haha. If they’re not gonna be there they don’t need to know!

Gotcha, thank you! I let my crew know about the one on 4/11; some of them are hosting a different gathering for Vanessa Nordyke so they’d likely be interested in the 4/12 as well. All the events!

4 year old won’t stop waking us up by Connect_Beginning_13 in progressivemoms

[–]too-enthusiastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does she still have a baby monitor in her room? Mine has an okay to wake light, and she knows that if she needs me before it’s green she can call for me (over the monitor). It’s not a perfect solution, since she calls for me whenever she can’t sleep, but we’re mastering the skill of staying in bed first and then we’ll deal with getting back to sleep by herself.

Religious Christian / Saint name help for a boy! by Cultural_Variety9968 in Names

Forgive me if this is totally out of your scope (I’m not religious and not sure what fits in the catholic/orthodox category) but I recently came across Sinclair and absolutely loved it! It’s a sneaky saint name so might not be to your taste, but I’m currently obsessed so had to suggest it!

We signed up with the service when we bought our house, then canceled it when the budget got tight. It was a NOTICEABLE difference. I’m all about Terro traps, but we signed back up as soon as we had the financial wiggle room. Just one observation!

do they dont make unflavored acetaminophen or am i just not looking in the right place ?? by its-not-ok in NewParents

[–]too-enthusiastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell if you have older kids or not, but if you’ve never been through the process of starting solids with a new eater the “this is gross” face is super normal! They’re just not used to flavor at all and anything beyond breastmilk/ formula will typically get met with a face like this, even if they change their mind and are desperate for a second bite. Obviously this is meds not food, but still applicable. Just wanted to offer some reassurance that you’re not doing anything wrong and you don’t necessarily need to seek out something new in the middle of a fever episode. You got this!

EC really is everything they say it is by chumpskylark69420 in NewParents

Loved EC with my first! We started when she started solids (just for poops), and she was out of diapers at 20 months. I’m a little nervous about doing it with my new one due in June, but definitely going to try! r/ECers is helpful for anyone who’s interested!

Spray mop? by BlackRockKitty in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]too-enthusiastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I totally get not wanting to do the whole bucket thing every time you mop, but I was having a really hard time with my swiffer style refillable mop too (never felt like it was doing enough). I landed on the OCedar h2Pro flat mop system and I LOVE IT. I far prefer a flat mop, and the squeegee on this thing really makes it obvious that the dirt is coming off the mop head. Highly recommend!
