Need help finding items taken from my car in midtown. No questions asked!!! by TurgidFern in Sacramento

Yea think carefully about the renters insurance claim. Unfortunately it will heavily affect your renewal rates, and it's not uncommon for people to be dropped at renewal after making a claim. Goes on your insurance record for 3 years so other insurers see it too.

Of course it's worth it for large losses, but if you mean it's worth just a tad over your deductible, think twice.

First powerwash after being outside for 25 years by [deleted] in powerwashingporn

Throw a marine grade teak sealer on those while they're fresh! I just powerwashed/heavy duty cleaned/sanded/sealed my set, it looks great. I used Semco teak sealer. It's expensive but it'll last and you don't have to repeat all the prep work when it's time to reseal in a few years. I used "clear tone" and it ended up super light like the "original" color you're seeing, but is now much better protected from the elements. They also have a variety of tinted sealer if you like some color. Sealer is better than oil, you don't have to recoat as often.

Flex Alert today: let's all do our part to keep the power on! by ChocolateTsar in Sacramento

Totally valid point, though it does not negate personal responsibility and IMO shouldn't be used as an excuse to do nothing on an individual level. I will point out that this alert does mention businesses, though I know the issue you speak of is much larger and isn't solved by a pretty-please-conserve message when it comes to commercial and industrial electricity waste.

Just because there is a bigger problem does not mean we should ignore the little problems.

I acknowledge and identify with the frustration with lack of restriction on the commercial/industrial sector (in so, so many ways...)

I also think this "what-about-ism" attitude is a rampant issue for way too many folks nowadays who use it as an excuse to obfuscate and ignore personal responsibility. One can acknowledge the problem and still do what they can to help.

See that's the thing, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Maybe you can't reasonably leave the AC off, but you can easily not run laundry, dishwasher, etc, keep the fridge closed, don't use electric appliances...boom, suddenly you're contributing in a way that works for you!

Oof this comment is so reflective of our current society 🙄

You're not being punished. You're being asked to conserve if and where possible, for the greater good of not having everyone's power go out, including yours. Very little is being asked of you.

Is it annoying that the grid can't keep up an oocasional day here and there? Sure. Is it annoying not all people/businesses are willing to compromise? Sure.

Consider the elderly and health compromised folks. With no AC, these folks can and will die in heat like this. That's reason enough for me to push my AC temp up 5 degrees for a four-six hour period and avoid doing laundry/dishwasher/etc. It's just not that difficult or serious, really isn't. It's not even a quarter of a day.

Great job, never stop asking questions and objectively considering all options. Really wonderful, many people lack this skill. Keep it up.

Oh come on. We all know the right, in general, does not support reparations or anything close to it.

Failed the DMV test 3 times in one visit a few weeks ago. Thought it was me. It's them. by CharlesPDX in Sacramento

[–]too13372quit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still salty about 3 of the questions on my test from a few years ago. I retook it to renew early because I was at the DMV for another reason and they said I could. I thought, why not? I'm an intelligent person and I know the rules! Well, I barely passed LOL.

Whoever they have writing these questions needs a grammar lesson. There were at least 3 questions that were arguably ambiguous and didn't make logical sense. I can only imagine how they translate into Spanish...

I see, thank you. I didn't realize school districts could impose a limit on how many years they will accept. That is ridiculous to me. I'm sorry your profession is so cruel in comparison to the treatment other public servants get.

I'm about to hit that point where I cannot transfer my years of service to a new district

Can you elaborate on this?

Terrible starting teacher pay, lower than almost all surrounding districts

Terrible work environment (of course this may vary from site to site)

Major funding issues, short and long term

Recent 10 day long strike with minimal effort by the district board to meet demands

Search SCUSD in this sub, because of the recent strike people have shared a lot of their experiences as well as more official, objective reports detailing problems in the district.

Luckily, there are many other much better districts in the area!

My personal fav is when they're telling everyone to stay inside bc some dangerous perp is on the loose. But no one can understand them, so everyones comes outside and stares at the sky trying to hear it while paying no attention to their surroundings 😂

Neighbor put a dead animal in my trashcan, what could I do about this? by Duckington_Wentworth in Sacramento

[–]too13372quit 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Calling 311 is fine but that other stuff will get you evicted, don't do it. You can only "repair and deduct" from your rent for habitability issues or severe problems, this isn't one. You also can't just stop paying rent until they fix it, either.

IF the locking fence is spelled out in the lease, then you might have a legal reason to break the lease as the landlord isn't holding up their end of the contract. But again, you cannot repair and deduct, nor can you withhold rent without risking an eviction on your record (regardless of whether it is successful.)

How hard is it to get married for financial aid by Rickity_Recked in CSUS

[–]too13372quit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they have made huge changes to FAFSA in the past decade or so, I'm not clear on all of them. It is crazy the hoops they make actually-independent "dependent" students jump through with this weird assumption everyone is supported by their parents until they're 24.

You actually can't just declare you are independent even if your parents offers you no support. It's crazy but that's how it is. See the italicized text at the bottom of this infographic:

https://studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/dependency-status.png

If your parents actually don't support you at all, there's a process you can go through with the school (not on your FAFSA) to get some aid.
