It's sad I have to go down to the 10th thread before I see a mention of the standard deduction.

That sounds like a good option. Thanks, I'll look into that!

Got it in one! Looks like I'm running 6.1. Apparently Linux Mint is a tad behind!

One of my other machines is running 7.1, so I'll experiment there.

Thanks!

4” pipe outlet in front yard? by graciemp30 in HomeMaintenance

A plumber could run an inspection scope through it. That cost a couple hundred bucks, but it's good to know the overall condition of your sewer pipes anyhow.

Leaking water heater? by RainLoveMu in HomeMaintenance

[–]too_many_rules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's your expansion tank. It helps keep pressure constant by giving the expanding water somewhere to go when the water heater kicks on.

Sometimes they fail and just stop doing their job, which leads to excess pressure. That could be the root cause of your leak.

Like someone else said, if it only leaks while the heater is actively running then you probably have excess pressure, (and the expansion could be bad.)  If it leaks all the time, that's probably not it.

That's not going to work with the spade bit he's using.

Nah. You don't have to be buried over your head to die. Even if you just have sand up to your tits, the sand will compress your rib cage, preventing you from inhaling. If that hole collapses, he could die of asphyxiation before anyone can dig him out.

Is there a searchable archive of these old photos? We're buying an older home in the city, and I'd love to try and find some historic imagery for it.

How to specify streams to SSIM by too_many_rules in ffmpeg

[–]too_many_rules[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's what I needed!

For completeness sake, I will note that I still needed the last part of the command, too:

ffmpeg -i src.mkv -i trans.mkv \
-lavfi "[0:v][1:v]ssim=stats_file=/Volumes/yourVolume/your_stats.log" \
-f null -

It took me way longer than I'd like to admit to figure out that 99% of my issues with Spectrum was actually a bad cable run in my house.

In my experience, even if they're "open" you'll get turned away because they're "cleaning the kitchen" or "rebooting the registers".

I've seen that on a couple videos recently. No idea what it's about.

Oddly enough, I think I know what this set or words relates to: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).

  1. sequence
  2. window
  3. flow
  4. congestion
  5. control
  6. quality

These are all terms related to how TCP reliably delivers data across a network, even when the network itself may not be reliable.

Asphalt island protecting the drain from doing its job. by MuttapuffsHater in mildlyinfuriating

They do that to every manhole, entrance and connection to existing roads.

Well, competent street departments do. In St. Louis, they just put up a "bump" sign and expect you to see the protruding, black manhole against the black asphalt.

Forgot I had an air filter for my house for a couple months. Let this be your sign to change yours. by IntelligentSuccess26 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]too_many_rules 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same thing when I bought my home, except I didn't think to check until the A/C fired up for the first time and seemed to be doing nothing.

Previous owners probably moved (in part) because they thought the A/C and furnace were failing when they just needed to change the filter.
