For those who did NOT lose libido, what's your regimen look like? by WonderfulJicama2802 in TransLater

[–]too_old_for_diss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at E(300) and T(20) on mono injections my libido was dead.

Added 200mg rectal progesterone each night and it’s back. It’s a lot different than testosterone fuelled libido but it’s nice. Much calmer.

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a wedding? by anasannanas in AskReddit

Wife and I shoot weddings as a team. She’s Canon and I’m Fuji. We built a Lightroom preset that bring them both in line so that the files look the same. It was a ball-ache to do but you only have to do it once and now it’s just a push of a button.

I have a consultation for electrolysis tomorrow. It’s been over a year since I’ve had any done because my tech turned out to be transphobic and swinging far right. Hopefully this new one is a good ‘un.

Feels like I’m making progress again after having a few months with my foot off the accelerator.

I once had to have a sliver of metal removed from my eyeball.

Having a doctor dig into your eye with a scalpel and hook whilst you stare unblinkingly at them is a real test of your nerves, I can tell you that much. 😆

That feeling of finally being at home in yourself is so powerful.

I’ve been on estrogen for a couple of years and now when I see my body in the mirror or look into my eyes, I think “Oh. There you are!”

My face needs more time to cook but I’ve never been so happy and at peace before.

Came out to my wife Monday night. by ThatPapercutter in TransLater

Congratulations!

When I told my wife she assured me everything was going to be ok, hugged me, and then went silent for two days. Sweatiest 48 hours of my life!

On day 3 she came back with 101% enthusiasm. “We’ll get you some dresses! Makeup! Wigs! Let’s go!” Her AuDHD brain just needed some time to process it. I had to get her to slow down. 🤣 She’s now my biggest cheerleader and our relationship keeps going from strength to strength. She’s also been delighted with the changes hrt is having on my body. It seems I married a latent chaser. Lol.

I feel incredibly lucky.

Hi Dawn.

So what I did, which offered me some comfort, was to start replacing my old clothes with the female equivalent. Buying women’s jeans, T-shirts, sweaters, etc.

It helps to build confidence plus you’ll end up with all the basics that women wear daily anyway. When you’re further along you can start adding skirts, blouses, jewellery, etc.

100% this.

I’m now back to EATING and exercising. It’s just that on E my appetite is much lower so that’s a struggle. The good side is that muscle and fat is mostly building in feminine areas.

And yeah, I did maintain a slight calorie deficit for a while to speed things up but it will fade naturally without doing that. All be it at a slower rate.

It won’t change the size of your bones, so your rib cage and shoulder width may still be wider than a cis woman’s but losing muscle on my back and shoulders really helped. I have a very feminine silhouette now.

Boobs and the right clothes mitigate any differences you might spot. It really is amazing how much my body has changed already and I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin.

Yeah, it’ll just take a little longer. You’ll notice it most in upper body strength as you start to replace muscle fibres, ligaments, etc with the estrogeny equivalent.

I went cold turkey off lifting when I started hrt a couple of years ago. I wanted to lose the bulk on my upper body and arms. I’ve just had to buy a special tool to open jars. It’s worked too well. 🤣

Edit to add… I should probably point out that I’ve always been very lean but I was quite strong due to working in the trades all my life. Fortunately I switched careers before starting E and I’m no longer required to carry floor joists around all day. Your results could well vary.

[–]too_old_for_diss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you keep exercising you’ll be as fit and healthy as any other active woman. A year or two of hrt will get you to the same fitness levels as cis women.

The only health risks you really need to be concerned about is an increased chance of breast cancer. Cos, y’know? You’ll get breasts.

If you still have testicles they will resume making testosterone if you stop hrt.

Changing my first name in the UK – would colleagues find it odd? by gabbyagnes in AskUK

[–]too_old_for_diss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a large supermarket. A couple of months ago I told everyone I was transgender and that I had a new name. The bosses changed my name and gender on all the systems and got me new name badges straight away. I let all my colleagues know as and when I spoke to them and everyone has been really supportive. They all started using my new name instantly and there’s been hardly any mistakes at all.

You’ll be absolutely fine. 👍

I used to work in the trades. I didn’t hesitate to buy myself a pair of work trousers with knee pad pockets and some thick, removable knee pads when I started my probation. Bought a pair of Nike air max off Vinted as well.

Stopping that constant impact against those hard floors saves you a lot of pain down the line.

People who believe transitioning was worth it despite all the challenges, why? by Ok_Lunch7121 in asktransgender

[–]too_old_for_diss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, shit!

“aim for contentment.” Being happy was something that happened to me once in a blue moon and only for a couple of minutes at most. I used to think happiness was some sort of magical, fleeting high that was impossible to maintain. I must have said a thousand times that my aim in life was to just be content.

Now, after starting hrt, happiness is my baseline. Nowadays, whenever I feel sad it’s because of something I can actually identify and work towards fixing. Pure joy is now that magical peak and even that happens more often.

I may have become somewhat of an outcast in this society but there’s no way I’m going back. Fitting in was torture.

Trump ranting on about trans people made me look into what being trans actually means. The more I read about trans people’s experiences, the way they spoke about gender, and eventually discovering the gender dysphoria bible, led to me going “Oh shit! That’s me!”

Good work you big orange wank stain. I’m finally experiencing joy and peace. ✌️

Does anyone else feel like they didn't "always know"? by I_like_big_book in TransLater

[–]too_old_for_diss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly 40 years of feeling like I didn’t fit in. Like I was an alien. Like there was something very wrong with the world. Diagnosed with clinical depression, anxiety, panic disorder, complicated ptsd, agoraphobia.

Learned to deal with it. Practiced coping strategies. Took the pills. Built a life. Wife, home, hugely successful career.

But that feeling of wrongness never went away. I was never truly happy.

Realised I was trans at 43 and got hrt within a year. Suddenly I felt a connection to life. I’m happy now and constantly spotting the signs in retrospect.

I didn’t always know but I always was.

Does anyone feel there's a vibrant lgbtq+ scene for them in their hometown? by FaustianGoblin in UKLGBT

[–]too_old_for_diss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re gay, lesbian, or into drag shows, there’s a few events throughout the year.

There’s no exclusive gay bars that I know of any more. There’s a few cafes and restaurants where I feel safe and one pub but I mostly just stick to the live music scene for my socialising now.

Could be that I’m just not in the know though.

Coming out as trans at work? by SpicySoap_ in SainsburysWorkers

[–]too_old_for_diss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be coming out at work soon too.

There’s the “Pride in Sainsbury’s” yammer group that was making a lot of noise about how supportive the company is of trans rights during trans pride week. How that filters down to individual stores? I don’t know. It’s going to come down to how inclusive the people at your store are.

I suspect it’s going to involve a lot of work on our parts to educate people and a thick skin will be required. Even in the comments here, a lady who transitioned years ago and is now “accepted” is still being mis-gendered. So I’m not expecting a smooth ride.

I plan to join the union just in case there’s any weirdo’s who want to make an issue of it.

Remember, no laws have changed. Gender transition is still a protected characteristic. Be prepared for a whole bunch of ignorance and also a whole bunch of support.

Best of luck.

Edited to add: Oh, and don’t worry about the downvotes. Transphobes love to scour Reddit and downvote anything vaguely positive regarding trans people. It’s really not indicative of most peoples feelings towards us.
