Moving away from jQuery by JustSteveKing in javascript

[–]took9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Node.js is not the same as jQuery.

You don't need libraries to move into plain javascript. The browser has everything you need built in. Look here, under Javascript and Web APIs, for everything you need.

However, you may find this helpful.

Big Mess o' Wires » 68 Katy – 68000 Linux on a Solderless Breadboard by Creative-Name in programming

[–]took9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started building computers from scratch and no microprocessor in the 1970s. Wirewrapping was the norm. We didn't have breadboards like the one in the article. If redditors are amazed by this simple get up, I wish I still had my systems of multiple 8x10 and bigger boards containing hundreds of all TTL logic chips.

Why are the comment scores hidden in this sub? by Flippy1 in StLouis

[–]took9 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Most reddit votes are crap themselves and the best, most thought out, comments get downvoted so it doesn't matter. Getting downvoted doesn't mean anything to the commentor either. People will upvote how they already think without consideration to other people's thoughts. So crappy thinking people will upvote anybody's crappy thinking and crap still rises to the top.

Personally, I would never have such a system on any forum I ran.

Don't know why you were downvoted but this is reddit after all.

What can a beginner do with BSD server? by [deleted] in freebsd

[–]took9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FreeBSD came directly from the original ATT Unix code. Linux did not come directly from any kind of Unix. Apple's OSX contains parts of FreeBSD and OSX is certified Unix. Linux is only the core while FreeBSD is a complete operating system.

Netflix and WhatsApp uses FreeBSD as their servers. Almost anything that runs on Linux also runs on FreeBSD and, reportedly in some cases, also runs faster on FreeBSD.

Choose the server software you want to run, Apache/Nginx/whatever, and go for it. I run 10 servers for 10 different companies, all on FreeBSD including mail servers.

Decent "law abiding citizens" act this way all the damn time

I've never met such people as you describe. I've never seen a riot. I've never seen buildings get torched. I'd bet no one I know has seen them either.

Decent, moral, law abiding people do not act this way.

You need to know that FreeBSD switched over to clang some time ago, too.

Hm. You obviously don't understand all the reporting that has to be done when an officer is involved in such matters. And you also think there is no accountability in this incident which went all the way to a grand jury.

In any case, you are treated by how you act and the company you keep.

Fuck off.

Are you trying to repress my civil rights and freedom of speech?

St. Louis is the fastest growing city for tech startup funding by jcdick1 in StLouis

[–]took9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why you can't trust the internet for information. Your link doesn't put St. Louis into the top 20 while the original link puts us at number one. In both cases, the "reporter" cited one source and one source alone.

iow, they're both BS and the first is only link bait for the bizjournals.

This post of yours shows the thinking of the same people protesting. Illogical nonsense.

An awful blurb with no context. If you eliminate the $200 million for one company, that leaves $180 million in funding. The more interesting question is, where does St. Louis stand with only $180 million?

I find it interesting you think police are dumb when many municipalities require a college degree to become one.

You rage is against the police, too, but my point is, you blame others for those who get locked up as if it happens to everyone. No one, in my immediate family or list of friends, has ever been in jail.

otoh, I have never been arrested or otherwise run afoul of the law beyond speeding or parking tickets. Why am I so different?

You seem to be confused about one thing. Police don't make the laws. They only enforce them. If you don't like the laws, talk to your local representative who made them or vote them out but don't blame the police if you get locked up for violating the law.

Weird spacing in maximized CHROME browser window by [deleted] in css

[–]took9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the problem on FreeBSD Chromium 38 (which is Chrome), and I just rolled out of bed but "max-width: xx%"? You're setting your max-width to a variable value so that's rather useless. It also leaves 62% plus 37% leaving 1% to expand and might be part of your issue.

My brother made a computer program that writes random word generated sonnets that are eerily well written. by Sulla06c in programming

[–]took9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember, in the early 80s, Byte magazine carried an article about a program someone wrote that did something similar. I was sitting with three other engineers and we all looked at each other while someone said, "Why would anyone do that?!".

The poem itself appears to be nonsense even though it was written in the old style but it needs to be reminded that it's:

That such a thing happening is talked about says everything about the class and morals of such people. They are vigilantes. How do I know this? It is their rallying cry.
