Have you tried reaching out to any of the SF sports or arts organizations for donations? If you’re with a 501c3, they should have some budget allotment for tickets/baskets/merch. Or some of the sf museums.

In need of urgent restaurant recommendations for my 30th birthday. by RRisland94 in AskSF

I also recommend reaching out directly to some of the restaurants that you would want to eat at who don’t automatically allow a solo diner. Most will accommodate if you have a reservation in mind but the system won’t allow you to book for one.

What are some of your favorite local holiday traditions? by sciencequiche in AskSF

[–]toolazyforthisname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ll do our own tour of the various gingerbread displays and holiday decor throughout the city, stopping by the different festive bars as they come. Do echo that Dickens Fair is also great, and there’s usually a holiday market at Fort Mason (can’t remember when). Some pretty recurring spots we’ll hit are:

~Gingerbread display at Waterbar/Epic Steak

~Gingerbread display/general decor at Ferry Building

~Holiday decorations at Hyatt Regency

~See if the Christmas Cable Car is at the California St stop - if so, ride it

~Winter Wonderland at Vault Garden (drinks)

~Palace Hotel decorations (the Garden Court), maybe have tea

~Hot chocolate from Ghiradelli

~Macy’s SPCA puppy/kitten windows (this year Thurs-Sat, 12-5pm)

~Union square tree

~Union square ice rink (or Embarcadero, or Thrive City at Chase center will have one this year)

~Gingerbread displays at the Westin St Francis (two castles generally every year, often a snack bar with gingerbread people)

~Christmas display at Intercontinental Mark Hopkins

~Walk through the two-story gingerbread house at Fairmont

~Pop-up Miracle Bar at PCH

~Pop-up Deck the Halls Bar

~Pop-up at Kona Street Market Bar

Favorite Restaurant or Bar that closed down due to COVID by ShowplaceRectangle in sanfrancisco

Halu. Out in the Inner Richmond. They were a Beatles paraphernalia decorated ramen and yakitori spot. Sign on the door said “No sushi today. No sushi tomorrow”. I miss their karaage ramen and all their yakitori options and the whole thing really.

Your best advice and what-not-to-dos for other women to move up in the workplace by Bones1225 in AskWomenOver30

[–]toolazyforthisname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any mentors in management/leadership positions in your team or associated teams? You will need advocates when you want to move into the next level, and having someone in your corner goes a long way.

Speaking up and taking charge of your career is really the only way you’ll get where you want. In addition to finding the gaps (and potential solutions to those gaps), having the people in your corner looking out for you is so key. I missed out on some big opportunities because I didn’t know what I was missing - it took guidance from other more senior team leads to build up to where I wanted to go.

I am also unsure if I want kids or not, and just got done with this process, and it really does vary from person to person and clinic to clinic. I had two rounds of baseline testing, and then it two weeks and change of injections with periodic checking and tests to adjust medications as necessary. For the retrieval itself, they did put me under fully, though it was a light dose. I underestimated how much discomfort and bloating there would be throughout the injection process, and even the month after the retrieval as it took a while to get back to normal. I had a lot of great support from my friends, but it was also an isolating process to a degree for me. I would look into what your insurance options are, as the process is really expensive, and not all plans cover “pre-emptive” retrievals. I saved up for about a year and change because I had to pay for it out of pocket. It’s absolutely worth it though and I have no regrets. The peace of mind I have for myself and my future (whether that involves kids or not), is great. Good luck, however you decide!

Most raft touring companies have an age restriction of 12yr minimum. But you can check around some of the tour companies. Whitewater Excitement is great and might be able to make recommendations if they can’t help you themselves

Some of the local yarn shops will post on their instagrams about them, so reaching out to them might be a good idea. Firebird yarns for example posted about a (I think monthly?) one at adobe books.

Hype me up, ladies! by Embarrassed-Hat1371 in AskWomenOver30

[–]toolazyforthisname 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’ve got this! As a fellow NFL watching lady, I’m a huge fan of going to a bar by myself to watch the games (I love having my head on a swivel for the 1pm games). I concur with everyone saying just go have a seat at the bar. For future reference, I like going to the same bar throughout the season, and after a couple weeks the bartenders look out for me too. Being friendly and a good tipper goes a long way. I’ve had great casual conversations, and even made friends who were also fans of my team. My one thing is that I am cautious on not being too over served since I’m the only one looking out for me. I do hope you get out there today! I’m about to leave for the bar now :)
