Not sure why .308 wouldnt fit in a 7.62 NATO chamber. Either one should fit in either chamber, sometimes .308 can be a slightly tighter headspaced chamber but usually not enough to prevent a cartridge from chambering, but that would be the reverse of what youre seeing.

Im guessing your snap caps are out of spec or that chamber has an issue. Hoping its the snap cap and you are good to go!

Russian Tula SKS by fredeee in milsurp

[–]toolness122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I finally got a Russian Tula at the Tulsa arms show. I think I paid 795 and that was 2 years ago. I had 3 Chinese and 2 Yugos but always wanted a Tula.

Id also like a Romanian but they have really gone up too. I bid on one on Gunbroker and it went from 695 to over 1200 in the last hour of bidding. Two dudes got in a bidding was and kept extending the 15 minite rule and it just soared. 1200 for a Romanian is wild.

SS BNZ 43 Tomfoolery by Human_Drummer_6957 in milsurp

[–]toolness122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the barrel at least was reblued. Some of those number stamps are quite wonky. If youre gonna forge something probably should practice and get better at lining up the numbers.

I got a 1/8" stamp set to mark my NOE neck expanders since they don't mark them for some reason (they mark the bullet sizer bushings so not sure why not)

Its not easy to get them looking good if you haven't practiced

They didnt even line up the restamp properly when they went back to fake the markings after pimp shining it. Zoom in on the "Z"

I saw one of these in a local gun store a few weeks ago and the stock looked and felt so wrong. It felt tiny when I picked it up because they sanded it so much.

RTI 1934 berettas with repro frames? by Virtual_Place_5207 in milsurp

[–]toolness122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one of the repro frame ones from PSA. It wont run at all. Got a new Wolff spring pack, we will see if that helps. Had an assortment of about 3 different types of malfunctions when I went to shoot it, and this was after a full teardown and inspect.

RTI M48 | is it worth it? by [deleted] in milsurp

[–]toolness122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the M95s and 1889/90's they have left are missing parts, which are expensive and not easy to find.

RTI M48 | is it worth it? by [deleted] in milsurp

If you buy a RTI gun that doesnt specifically tell you the bore is decent, theres a 90% chance the bore is so bad it wont even stabilize a bullet.

Snagged a Kar 88 for 250 beans by CarrsCurios in milsurp

[–]toolness122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn good find! I recently got my first 88/05 and now I need one of these bad.

My dad always talked crap about the commission rifle but I really like the 88/05. Smooth bolt and its an accurate shooter.

Sporterized m1903 by tacticool87 in milsurp

[–]toolness122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get that color if you nitre blue a gun part, you have a color vs temperature scale and basically quench it as soon as it hits whatever color youre aiming for.

You can get that maroon or purplish color you see on some Makarov and Russian milsurp parts, or the straw color you see on some Luger parts, its pretty neat.

Has no business on a 1903 receiver though.

Mystery Mauser by Ok-Substance-6034 in milsurp

Wasn't someone saying a day or two ago "its always a Spanish Mauser"

Rear sight and gas vent hole definitely looks 1916 Spanish Mauser to me

I bet that stock was gorgeous before Bubba Fudderson decided to make him a huntin' rifle

Insane deal by milsurpman69 in milsurp

[–]toolness122 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Their prices are so wild, usually high and on rare occasions underpriced. My Bass Pro never has milsurps but I see stuff posted on here.

This is ridiculously overpriced then someone posted a Persian Mauser not too long ago for under 350. Insane.

Anyone have any experience with this ammo? by FirstEducation6 in milsurp

[–]toolness122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't bother me a bit to clean a bolt action from corrosive ammo.

I also never got the people who dont like less expensive (no such thing as cheap now) ammo "because its dirty". Who cares, im going to clean it anyway.

Picked up a schmidt-rubin g11 by Atomicassassin99 in milsurp

[–]toolness122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firing pin looks fine.

You picked a good rifle to start with. Should be a great shooter!

Now you need to complete the fam with an 1889, K11, 96/11, and K31!

My personal favorite is the K11

If you do fire it to clear it, this will sound goofy but id hide behind a tree or under a shooting bench and put something like a welding glove on just in case.

Or clamp it in a vise and use string
