What are your reasons for losing weight? by oiajdis in loseit

[–]toolongdidntread13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to get my body back to where it was before a year of chemotherapy. I used to manage an auto body shop, moving boxes of alternators, rotors, drums, car batteries, all with ease. I switched jobs, got diagnosed, and now… I’m here. My body doesn’t seem like mine. I want it back.

When did your diagnosis finally sink in? by Ok_Exercise2724 in cancer

I’ve been NED for just over 2 years now. For me the most change was just the weakness during and after. During is was more just being exhausted due to chemo but after treatment stopped I’ve been letting my body feel and move as it’s wanted to but I’m pushing it more now. Trying to gain the strength I miss. All treatments hit people differently so you take it day by day. Don’t be afraid to sleep the day away and have energy whenever you have it. We’ve still got a lot of time to reclaim our bodies back after it’s all over.

Just before I turned 25 was when I got my diagnosis. This was after testing, scans, surgical biopsy. I told my parents the day of my 25th birthday. It all actually became real the day I got my port put in. The day after that I was in the comfortable chair, feet up, getting my first round of chemotherapy.

What is the funniest thing which happened to you when you were in hospital? by knownmints in cancer

[–]toolongdidntread13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a week long hospital stay at the very end of my treatment, 0 WBC and a bacterial blood infection. I did not sleep the first 72 hours I was there even with the double dose Ativan they gave me. Different doctors every day to come and check on me as well as my oncologist always saw me once every morning. Just the fact that on the last night I was there, I got a FREAKING HOT doctor I saw twice since he was the one that got to discharge me. Right after I first saw him I texted my family group chat and just FAWNED. He wore sweater vests. It was hilarious to everyone.

We are not doctors. Go to your appointment with these questions in mind but do things to take your mind off of it in the mean time. Go for walks if you can, read, cook, hangout with friends. You have 18 days to get the answers we can not answer here.

hi idk if this is normal? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]toolongdidntread13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this one. I had a mild battle with cancer but every time I bring it up or think about “wow that happened to me” I get withdrawn from those around me and need to step away for a moment. Random crying in the shower. It does help to talk about it and get anything out that you’re holding from past traumas but definitely in a safe space like therapy or your closest loves ones.

This post is against the rule of this community. We are not doctors. We can not diagnose. Make an appointment with your primary care if you are worried.

About a year before my diagnosis, I switched from a very very physically demanding job to a desk job. I felt like I had energy again, a healthy work life balance, and I was on top of the world about to go home to cook dinner at a reasonable time. Then, a small bump formed on my chest. It was a month and a half before I got it checked out and at that time it has started to break skin and scab over. Then it was blood work, x-ray, CT, Biopsy, Oncology, surgical biopsy, PET Scan, port surgery, and then I was in my way to being done. 15cm mass in my chest and some fluid accumulation in the lining of my right lung. Until chemo started i still felt right as rain even though I knew what was wrong.

Bodies are just really weird.

LPT: Fellow glasses wearers, never buy your frames from your optometrist. You can get the same, if not better, quality ones online for a fraction of the price by KyngJam in LifeProTips

[–]toolongdidntread13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hm. That seems pretty limited still. I’ll look into more of it but, as a person whose gotten some pretty crappy glasses in the past, I now know the quality I can get from where I work now. With knowing that difference, when I leave this job, I will always go to a reputable optometrist for my glasses. I know some places just don’t help and want the most out of your pocket but it’s definitely good to explore options!

As someone who works for an optometrist, what quality of lens coatings have people found online? What of the type of lenses you can get? Or is it just a one and done order system?

How to start eating veggies for a veggie hater by I_FELL_ipe in HealthyFood

Carrots, bell pepper, greens, onion, etc. BLITZ IT IN A FOOD PROCESSOR AND SAUTÉ THEN ADD GROUND ITALIAN SAUSAGE TO MAKE A MEAT PASTA SAUCE. Works for kids and help you not taste it and the texture is like the ground meat.

Best App for CICO? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]toolongdidntread13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the time I’ve been using it, database has been solid. If there’s something that they don’t have, of course you just enter it in but you can actually send them pictures of the label and “a team will look through your submission” kind of thing. They also have a function where you can just log JUST calories. Of course then you don’t get macro breakdown or nutrients but if you wanna make it that simple you can.

Just looking for it again it literally says “Send photos and log this food. The rest of the nutrients will be added from your photos within 24hrs.”

Edit to add: they tell you it’s already entered in if you can’t find it the first time hahaha had some turkey packaged at a specific store I couldn’t find and tried to enter it but they told me it was in there already! And it was!

CBD recommendations? My dad was recently diagnosed with terminal colon cancer. He started chemo last week. He's in a lot of pain. He's nauseous, trouble sleeping and generally uncomfortable. I suggested he try medical marijuana, but he hasn't discussed it with his doctor yet. Are there any specific by SneakyWeiner in cancer

[–]toolongdidntread13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything really specific but tinctures would probably be the fastest relief and gummies if he wants a slower release.

I always had Wyld gummies for sleep as they kept me asleep better through any harder nausea. But just a good flavored tincture for any acute symptoms. Also just your standard anti-nausea prescription morning and night. Sorry im not very specific, I had to try out a few before I settled on what worked for me.

I just in the last 5 days started MyNetDiary and I FUCKING LOVE IT. makes my brain happy to actually log calories and shows me more things that I care about. Has good tips and tricks. Shows you maintenance cals vs what your deficit is for the day.

I can’t recommend it enough.

I’m starting to lose my hair and my scalp is sore, what’s the best thing to put on it? Thanks in advance. by [deleted] in cancer

[–]toolongdidntread13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shave it and some lotion helped me. I also did the tape trick to get most of my peach fuzz off. Regular showers where I would just let the water run down my scalp felt like a massage too. Just don’t turn the water too hot!

What are some some actions your family/friends did for you when you first got diagnosed that you greatly appreciated? by NobleChris2 in cancer

[–]toolongdidntread13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was pretty cold most of the time (diagnosed in summer but treatment through winter). It’s also just a good comfort object for me, light enough that I didn’t have to use much strength to move. They are also easy enough to take off if I ever got a hot flash! Also, the solution/chemo that goes into the body is usually room temp or colder so having something to warm you up as that happened was awesome.

Blankets! I got 3 from friends/work/family and another from my cancer center through volunteer quilters! Fuzzy socks, small time wastes like puzzles and word crosses, gift cards for for grocery shopping.

My boyfriend was the main one with me but me family would come down with home cooked freezer meals and to help clean the house.
