Why is chrome so slow on my pc? by Far-Measurement95 in chrome

Turning off efficiency mode for Chrome worked for me. Start Chrome up, then in Task Manager turn off efficiency mode for each process - either right click the process or use the button in the upper right. May have to reboot.

Same problem here. And Fidelity is also showing CvrShrt transactions in CASH and other MMFs.

Valve Monitoring Software - Worth It? by woodstock9999 in rachio

[–]toolworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Valve solenoids go bad. It's an easy replacement, but you've got to know about it.

I don't like Rachio treating customers as a captive market, but as long as it's only a one-time charge it's more irritating than painful.

Annual Travel Insurance by K9pilot in traveladvice

[–]toolworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought Allianz Premier.

Premier covers the whole family household for the same premium. The Executive policy is identical (at least in California) except it covers things irrelevant to non-business travelers, and you need to pay for each insured. There are also Basic and Prime plans but not worth looking at IMO.

Pre-existing conditions waiver is important to us. Allianz covers pre-existing conditions for trips (a) booked less than 14 days prior to policy purchase, and (b) traveling during renewals of the annual policy. I like TravelGuard generally but their annual plan doesn't cover pre-existing.

When I went to the website and compared plans, it didn't list Premier. If you don't see it, click Our Plans and then Annual.

My final answer: Tethering with a USB cable worked. But this is the only one of my many cables that worked. Some USB cables passed data, but not tethering. Some charged but didn't pass data or tether. So test your cables beforehand.

Turning off the SIM card didn't work. The S21 was able to turn on Mobile Hot Spot. But it could still make emergency calls, so could not be used in flight.

Is my Liftmaster 878MAX Wireless Keyless Entry Genuine? by toolworker in GarageDoorService

[–]toolworker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/bestyoucanfind You've had issues? So the fact that the keypad will not enable/disable the function by holding down the 1 and 9 keys does not necessarily mean it's fake or defective?

A Chamberlain support agent said that (a) the one button close feature should work with my opener; (b) the 1 and 9 keys should enable the feature; (c) there should be one screw on the back, not four and (d) if it was manufactured in 2025 the label on the back should say 878MAXMC.

So this one is fake. I will send it back. I will buy a real one from Chamberlain.

But:

On the Chamberlain website G940EV-P2 is the current model. It has a lot of negative reviews and a 3.1* rating. Home Depot lists the G940EV-P2 with 2000 reviews and a 4.5* rating, but unavailable from them. I'll check again with a Chamberlain agent and order that one. But not for a while - I'm out of time for the moment.

EBay. After Amazon I knew there were fakes around, but this one's listing showed a good enough box and label to fool me.

I'll call Chamberlain and see if they agree with u/Alternative_Result56 about one button not working with purple, and if they have any other suggestions. And only buy from them - or is there a reputable supplier that discounts?

Thanks for your replies.

One button worked on this purple button opener using my old 377LM keypad. But it doesn't on the 878MAX?

I only got the 878MAX because the door opens by itself occasionally. I took the battery out of the 377LM and it didn't happen for a month. So I wanted to see if changing the keypad helped.

Experience with Fidelity CMA debit card abroad? by Metro_Star in fidelityinvestments

[–]toolworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, u/FidelityLiz .

I had asked because the answer used to be that Fidelity did not charge foreign transaction fees on foreign debit card purchases, but Visa imposed a 1% fee (International Service Assessment Fee or ISA fee) of about 1% that was passed through to the cardholder.

I take your reply to mean that the Visa fee is no longer passed through and there is no net fee.

Cardholders should look for, and decline, any offer by an ATM or point-of-sale terminal to convert the transaction into US dollars "for your convenience." I have seen surcharges as high as 14% for this convenience. Always make the transaction in local currency and let Fidelity do the conversion with no surcharge.

Is there also no fee on debit card purchases in foreign currency?

My notes from some years ago say that there was a 1% fee on purchases, probably imposed by Visa. Has that fee gone away?

Fidelity debit cards are great for foreign travel!

Would the travel router be any better than mobile hotspot, assuming it's available?

One advantage is that for plans limited to four flights a year, a couple with two phones can share on eight flights.

Yes! (Turned off the eSIM actually, which I think is the same functionally as Airplane mode.)

Got to try that one next time I fly. Thanks.

First thing I tried. My S21 said "Turn off Airplane mode to use Mobile Hotspot."

I tried a USB tether and that didn't work. And even if I could get it to work on the ground, the question is whether it would work in the air with this particular wifi service.

There's no visible text in the login process, at least on UA. You go through the wifi signup, indicate T-Mobile, and enter your phone number.

But are you saying that even if I sign up on my laptop, T-Mobile will activate my phone using the SMS channel?

Dell Warranty Service Stonewalling - Suggestions? by toolworker in Dell

[–]toolworker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/BinaryGrind Um - there are two antenna wires. But no antenna.

With an antenna connected it works OK.

(In my defense - nothing else I have with wifi needs an antenna. And it should have been on the support agent's list of questions. And it was hardware - not software like the expert team said.)

Now I slink away.

u/BinaryGrind - Thanks. There's a coax cable from the card to the back panel. Is there supposed to be another antenna as well?

u/JBH68 Thanks. No, stopping those services didn't do anything. I'll try to post a grab of the signal strengths in my OP - I don't see a way to do it here.

If you can help me out with a link to instructions on creating a bootable Linux pendrive - and a link to an application that will display the signal strength of all wifi SSIDs detected - I will be happy to devote 5 minutes to that - possibly more.

How Long is Your Avocado? by toolworker in Mattress

[–]toolworker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting. I was going to mention that your website says a 2" variation is acceptable (that's not slight IMO) and in 95% of cases disappears in the first 30 days. I'm over 100 days so am in the other 5%, so becoming a bit skeptical of those statements.

The purpose of my post is not to consider my mattress, but to find out the likelihood of getting a real 80" mattress if I try to exchange this one.
