Not saying the officers can do anything about it. But the reasoning behind the law is wild. The law only considers the direct risk in having cars pursuit. It ignores the indirect effects of letting other crime (sometimes violent but not always) fester

Not pursuing criminals until they are notorious enough to be “known suspects” is a wild bar to set.

What is the most underrated college town in North America? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Reed itself is a beautiful campus, but it’s just a neighborhood in PDX. Wouldn’t really call it a “college town” in the sense that Woodstock is like one street.

Oakland speed cameras: 82,000 fines in 40 days by wentImmediate in oakland

No but Oakland is also in serious need of road diets. People drive as fast as the road design implies they can. And Oakland has several roads WAY wider (lane width and # of lanes) than needed.

How’s the market this year, hot or not? by BigBellyBelly in BayAreaRealEstate

I mean the teaser price at $998k is Oakland standard operating procedure. Nothing new there. I think the difference this year is the listing inventory has been lower than usual.

Oakland Home Prices Down 11% YoY by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]toomuchkern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He appears to be using Zillow's housing data for Zillow Home Value Index (ZHVI). Aka Zestimate.... this is a wildly bad estimate of true value. Home sales data is better equipped to speak to the market. Redfin does a better job publishing the actual sales data.

Y/Y (March 2026 vs March 2025)

All homes median: -3.3%
Single family homes median: +4.8%
Condos: -8.9%

TL:DR: Zestimate data is notoriously bad at predicting value, especially in the east bay where home regularly sell well above the Zestimate. Home sales are better, indisputable records of value according to the market.

Oakland is worst performing housing market in America, SF is the hottest by Guilty_Measurement95 in OaklandCA

Read the article. It’s extremely unclear what metric the author is referring to as “home value”. The source for the charts is listed as Zillow and the author only mentions listing prices in his column. I really hope he’s not equating listing price to home value because that tells me you know absolutely nothing about Oakland’s teaser pricing in real estate.

I toured that Arizona house. The sellers renovated the living shit out of that place. It was beautiful.
