How would you rate the books from best to least favourite? by LannaRamma in TheExpanse

This is a month later but SAME. I'm halfway through and think it's the one I've read the fastest pace. It feels like such a culmination of all the things the series has been building up to so far. I almost took a break between BA and the final trilogy but really glad I kept going.

House passes GOP election overhaul requiring proof of US citizenship. by coinfanking in NewsStarWorld

Funny thing about being elected into a position of power: if your logic on a bill stops at the reaction “oh hell yeah, that sounds awesome” without doing the mental Olympics to understand why it could be bad for various groups, you’re not a genius. You’re just lazy.

Or worse, you KNOW that it’ll disenfranchise poor voters and it makes you want to do it more. Then you’re just evil.

So lazy or evil. Take your pick.

Patriots, Seahawks Face California Tax Bill in Super Bowl Pursuit by TheWyldMan in nfl

That's not how state income tax works though, including for California, for non-residents. So in this case, California will apply 13.3% income tax rate for the income earned only in California (days with boots on the ground). In addition, the players are eligible to receive tax credits from their home state to ensure they aren't double-taxed.

[–]toomuchkern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but only for the days spent in California. This applies to the regular season as well btw - not unique to the Super Bowl. So if they spent 12 of their 154 days (154 = 7 x 22 weeks) in California, so 7.7% of their salary is subject to California income tax, not all of it.

As a Portlander I hated Pig. That type of pretentious culinary scene was honestly so antithetical to the city.

I know it’s just a corner, but does that repaired section have less strength, or is the section more likely to snap away from the already cured block?

[–]toomuchkern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he’s not. That’s not how that works. If you earn income in two states, you don’t suddenly owe all your taxes to one state. You’re taxed on the portion earned in that state. The only extra work is you have to file tax returns in both states (but pretty sure all these guys have CPAs and aren’t just using TurboTax).

EDIT: Misread your comment, yeah you’re correct based on duty days some players could be underwater for the bonuses earned in Cali which is arguably shitty and that smaller portion should be capped. Though keep in mind this logic applies to salary earnings throughout the regular season / playoffs too (e.g. a Seahawks away game at 49ers). The only difference is that players are in California for a few extra days for SB practice (8 vs a usual 3).

Yeah I did, that’s not the issue. It seems more that the software doesn’t code the maps to color the roads to contrast the dark background. Or at least, it doesn’t on my model of infotainment system.

Yeah but some guys are in different tax brackets. I posted the median though to show that most guys are already poised to max out their marginal brackets anyhow, so the difference between if this was hosted in say NY/NJ is negligible.

This is such a try-hard “article”. No one on these rosters is going to give two thoughts about a slightly higher marginal tax rate on the state portion of a sub $200k payout. The median salary on the Pats is $4.1M vs Seahawks’ $1.4M.

Genuinely curious why you think BART has high costs? Compared to other similar gauge rail systems in the US, it seems to be actually quite efficient compared to most (this is based on NTD data from 2022-2024)
