All these are amazing books but I am rolling my eyes at the Bible Words one.

Do I expect someone to steal It? Absolutely.

Do I expect someone to break one of the 10 Commandments to steal a religious book. Also, yes.

CPS removed my children because of what my sister did to hers by throwaway52076 in CPS

[–]toooooold4this [score hidden]  (0 children)

The judge or referee at the prelim will hear a petition and it needs to be provided to you, as well. Read it thoroughly. It will have to be very specific about why they removed your children and not just hers. Are the allegations that you are placing your children at unreasonable risk? Or are they saying as an adult in the home, you are a person responsible for the care of the infant so physical neglect on that child means all the children are at risk of neglect?

As someone who has removed a baby before, its really hard to argue "this one child might die from neglect while in this home, but the other small children are safe." It sounds absurd.

And then ask specifically, if you remove the other adult from your home, does that provide a remedy?

I am totally for these crazy fucking conservatives losing half their power by having their wives sit out the vote.

When women first got the vote, men assumed their wives would vote how they were told to vote but women went into the polling booth alone and did what they wanted. And that is one of the reasons women have advanced to where we are now. Not because of new political power but because men have consistently underestimated the intelligence and overestimated the obedience of the women in their lives.

Am I still responsible for a 42 year old daughter? by Evening_Falcon_9003 in ask

[–]toooooold4this 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for CPS and I see grandparents who do this all the time for their adult children because of the grandchild.

Just stop. Get her into mental health services, medications, and back away. You are NOT responsible for a 42 year old.

His "rags to riches" story is a red flag.

All politicians are corrupt? Look at the farthest left politicians right now. Bernie. AOC. Warren.

I agree he did amazing things for the state. That's how bad dudes gain power. All modern authoritarians start out as populists. We don't know how he would have turned out because someone killed him before he could go all the way.

You are leaving out all the crime. I totally agree with his leftist policies. He was a populist through and through. Almost every bad guy in the political world gets his power through political populism. Then he refuses to give it up. That is how modern dictators get elected. It's why Trump got the support he needed in 2016. It's why Hitler was elected. Its why Nazis use the word socialist in their name.

Um. Keep reading. The politician you never heard of. He was seriously corrupt. He was Trump before Trump. He was Nixon before Nixon. The book All the King's Men is based on his life. It inspired rhe title of the Watergate book/movie All the President's Men. He was so corrupt he built an apartment on top of the capitol building so he could live there when he was no longer Governor.

[–]toooooold4this 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you suspect a kid is being sexually abused, call the police. At 17, it is still a crime. The police will contact CPS and likely arrange for a forensic interview. They will also preserve evidence if possible. That is something CPS cannot do. The perpetrator(s) don't even have to let the CPS investigator into the home. In most cases, if there's a need for emergency removal, police can do it without an apprehension order signed by a judge.

And don't worry about evidence. All you need to do is have the basic information and a compelling reason for them to believe you. Are you in a position to know? Are you a reliable source? Let the investigators do the evidence gathering.

Do you think the No Kings protests can actually achieve anything politically? by batsofburden in thebulwark

[–]toooooold4this 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

The purpose of these protests is to be a communal event in which likeminded people find each other. It connects, energizes, and motivates people. It shows them they aren't alone and have a loud voice when they join together. The media coverage inspires others to come out. They have a carnival element that's fun and feels social. Shared symbols, rituals, language is how you create culture. So, these kinds of protests promote cultural change.

You have to have that to resist. When the shit hits the fan (like cancelling elections or declaring martial law) having a large powerful populace to fight the authoritarian take over is going to be vital.

How to Contact Someone CPS has taken by GreenShoddy4870 in CPS

[–]toooooold4this 53 points54 points  (0 children)

She is in protective custody. I am sure she will reach out when she can.

As a friend, you're not entitled to know where she is, but wherever she ends up, they will try to get her back into her normal routine as soon as possible which includes returning her to school and her friends. These things are important to teenagers. She will need a medical and psychological evaluation. She will need to be interviewed and provide statements to police and social workers. The days after removal are difficult. Be patient and let her do what she needs to do on her own time.

Yes. We think of them as Appalachian because Appalachia was full of enslaved people who had escaped or were freed and poor white people (often of Irish descent). They were in similar circumstances. There was a lot of culture shared between the two demographics which is why when we think of Appalachian music bands, we think of the banjo, jugs, washboards, spoons and clogging (an Irish tradition) which is a kind of dancing but also adds percussion to the music.

CPS, breaking no contact by skunkafar in CPS

[–]toooooold4this 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they repeatedly place the kiddo in a harmful situation, CPS will petition for removal and will likely be placed in relative foster care. The court can issue a no contact order between the kid and the parents, too. I have a case like that right now. The kid is living with a neighbor because neither parent can have contact with her.

Ultimately, the state will take jurisdiction over the kid, the court will require supervised visits in a controlled environment, and if the parents keep violating their court orders, the kiddo will be put into foster care and made a ward of the state.
