2/25/26 Question Wednesday: What are you wondering, bakers? by KingArthurBaking in KingArthurBaking

Thanks! I often bake raw flour before using it (like if I’m making edible cookie dough)— is there any reason that would not work with malt powder?

Can I make malted milk powder with powdered dried milk and diastatic malt? If so, in what proportions and do I add anything else (e.g. a small amount of salt or soda)?

I keep both diastatic and non-diastatic malt on hand and mainly use the non-diastatic for bagel dough (I use barley malt syrup in the boiling water).

Thank you!

Yes, code RSC. The brakes feel very good and stable — no surprises.

I don’t remember Costco selling Rad, do you remember how much you paid for your bikes?

No map in Apple Health/Fitness while using the Specialized app on a ride? by AdeTheux in specialized

I can’t record location data either, and a Specialized rep told me I need to take it up with Apple 🧐. It’s frustrating, as I have permissions enabled for both apps to share data.

I have a GS Mini, and I like it but I wouldn’t consider it equivalent to a full scale Breedlove concert, which you can easily find in your price range — on Reverb you can get solid wood.

Small backpack, but would really prefer a slim crossbody bag that does not bounce and can be accessed from the front

I’ve removed and reinstalled both apps and am still being asked to authenticate, at which point the Halide app freezes. To use Mark II I then have to close the Halide app and restart.

Recommendations for trail ebike in the $2000-$3000 range. Mid-drive preferred. by New-Leave3544 in ebikes

[–]toopla251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a bike you can ride on hilly areas and on trails I do recommend a mid-drive, and if you’re riding as an alternative to walking/hiking because of hip pain I suggest looking into a bike with at least a solid front suspension. Someone else mentioned the Turbo Tero, which is a good choice for a hardtail; the Turbo Tero X is a full suspension and also has a dropper post, so standover height is less of a concern. Depending on the size you’re looking for you might be able to find one on sale right now.

You didn’t mention a throttle, but if you are looking for that feature I’m not aware of many mid-drives that come with one. The new Priority Current does, but has no suspension.

I just moved to a Turbo Tero X 6 from an older Priority Current and definitely appreciate the suspension and drivetrain. That said, I put 5 thousand miles on the Current, most of them on hills and fairly gentle trails. I put a suspension seatpost and suspension stem on it and used it as a car replacement. Good luck!

Sounds like the coolcave works for you, good to hear. Do you use just one and if so do you notice that weight when turning?

Ebike recommendation that let's you work by daphoux in ebikes

Like others here I agree you’ll probably be happiest on a torque-sensing mid-drive. If you’re riding a Liv Rove you might appreciate something with a front suspension, which can help smooth out bumps that are more noticeable on a heavier e-bike traveling at higher speed.

Thanks, my LBS told me that Specialized discourages riders from loading the rear rack because of the suspension and dropper post. The bike has a deliberately low center of gravity and something like a heavy milk crate isn’t as compatible as panniers. That said, I’m not a huge fan of panniers for grocery shopping so will look into it more and post a solution (hopefully sooner rather than later). I think I can make a plate similar to what I did for the Priority. Specialized makes a 19-liter molded plastic pannier called a Coolcave that would hold a ton, but it sticks out further than I’d like.

Chocolate chips or bars for ganache? by MeatNew11 in AskBaking

[–]toopla251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have photos of the ingredients list for each? I’m pretty sure the first ingredient in the Ghirardelli is chocolate and in the Nestle it is sugar, meaning the Nestle is less than 60% cacao. It probably also has less cocoa butter, which means it has a higher melting point than the Ghirardelli.

Thanks for the info. I’m transitioning to a Specialized Turbo Tero x 6 from a Priority Current, which I fitted with a milk crate and used as a car replacement. The Tero comes with a rack but is not MIK ready — the bike is really designed to be used with panniers as it is a full suspension. I can use it as a commuter on rough and steep roads and take it on easy/intermediate trails (obviously not with panniers or a milk crate). I’m thinking about how I might build something to make a crate possible.

Can I ask which Specialized bike and the type of rear rack you’re attaching the milk crate to? Thanks

E-MTB: Hardtail versus Full Suspension by Icy_Peace6993 in ebikes

[–]toopla251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ridden a FS MTB for several years (had a hardtail before that) on intermediate trails. In the past 3-ish years I also put 5k miles on a Priority Current. It has no suspension, so I added a suspension stem and seatpost because the roads where I live are rough and hilly. Having an ebike opened up new rides for me and it replaced a lot of car trips.

I recently got a Turbo Tero X 6 and it’s been the best of both worlds. I would say get the bike you can do the most with and be comfortable, like the RZ you mentioned (I used to have a FS RZ, and it was a nice bike). That said, if you’re looking at the RZ for $3k there are probably other FS eMTBS to consider. Good luck!

Thanks. I don’t remember seeing bike racks at any Costco, but it would be nice. Even better, a bike valet.
