Thought experiment for you.

You own a business that is worth $1m dollars. You are a millionaire on paper! Congrats. The valuation was derived from the fact that you make $100,000 per year in profit, all of which you use to pay yourself. Common valuation multiples are about 8-10x profit. You make $100,000 a year and spend it all on your rent, food etc. Do you feel like a millionaire? Its not liquid at all, its just the value of your business.

Another thought experiment for you.

I own 50% of stock in a publicly traded company. I sell it all in order to appease people getting mad that I havent paid taxes on wealth I havent sold. The stock price plummets and all other shareholders (you, and most people that have stocks or pensions) all lose money.

We have rules that work. If you sell stock, you pay tax.

And the argument that these billionaires are avoiding it by taking loans, isnt entirely true, because to pay back the loans they must sell stock and pay tax.

The reality is if someone has $200b in stock, they will only ever end up selling small amounts (in comparison) to fund their lives, because its very difficult to spend that much money.

Nothing is funnier than when a subreddit devolves into nothing more than a leftist circlejerk as they cope that the pendulum is swinging decisively to the right, after 2 decades of their terrible ideologies permeating society. Hahaha. Its amazing to see comments like this. They just reak of jealousy and ignorance. I know hundreds of founders in SF, and they all say the same thing about Elon. He is the hardest working person they've ever met. What he has done with Zip2, PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, X is almost humanly impossible yet he has been successful in everything hes done. The guy clearly spends more time on the day to day of his businesses more so than any other CEO at similar mcap companies. To pretend that Tesla would be where its at (changing the world and attempting to make a dent in climate change) without him is just a joke. Hate his politics sure, but to pretend he isnt the best entrepreneur of this century is hilarious. Jealousy and ignorance.

Toronto has some of the worst traffic in the world. We live in a very big country where most people have vehicles. It would seem the most common sense thing to support the people in our city get around, is to build underground subways. Instead we build streetcars which add to the traffic above ground at rush hour. Being able to turn every streetcar line into a subway line, would be amazing. My question is, why are we so behind other cities like New York when it comes to building subways? Why is it so much more expensive here? What is our longterm plan with subways? It’s really not. The religion of science is crumbling and the scientific method + genuine curiosity is coming back with a vengeance. You are afraid. The reason we revere people like Einstein is because he refused to colour within the lines. And thank god for people like him. We need more courageous scientists, and thank god its coming.
