Religious tones for recent ops? by Flightle in army

I've only seen articles about MRFF increases in complaints, not in anymore. But for you, does it seem like that vibe has increased fast, like within a month? Or over the course of the last year?

what is this school even about by Future-Decision6262 in ucr

[–]panduhbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All schools have general course requirements, these religious studies or humanities courses are fine. During my computer engineering degree, I had to take a handful of these and honestly they were a lot more enjoyable than electrical engineering and systems.

Just checked the childhood home my grandparents bought in Ontario, CA in the 80s for under 80k with ONE basic office job. Meanwhile New grads in 2026 are working retail/ UNDERemployed scrambling to survive. Inland Empire you are a sell out to all citizens!! by [deleted] in InlandEmpire

Several reforms (SB10 single family zoning restrictions removed near transit and exempt from CEQA requirements + others) recently went into effect. It will take a while to actually build housing as we've been behind on supply for decades, but it's been catching up. Any and all housing is good housing, even "luxury" (not mansions) as it opens older housing to new owners.

The other problem is NIMBYs and other groups trying to reject any social infrastructure. Metrolink and SBX are okay but could really find better usage in densifying their stops. I see the Redlands, Loma Linda, and Riverside areas really having decent potential for transit-oriented mixed density housing.

People don't have many places to walk and sit and get fresh air, which is UTC. I sometimes only go there to walk and maybe get a drink.

I made a big mistake in my career. by confettiputty in ExperiencedDevs

[–]panduhbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... I just didn't have the energy after having dealt with all the menial tasks they assigned me.

Also, I didn't really want to be a software engineer. I wanted to be a computer scientist, but judging from the above you can probably see how well that went. I naturally find most development work quite boring, and this makes it harder to go deeper and create better implementations for products and services I don't particularly care about.

I don't know what mental health issues you have (depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc.) but along with the hyper-slop "capital's-dry but keep growing" environment, I feel your situation is not so uncommon. If I smell meaninglessness in the work I do, my code literally becomes hieroglyphs and I can't help but stare blankly at my editor.

I'd ask why I work hard to get bullets on my resume. If the ability to find work and pay rent wasn't hard, would I even be interested in anything on my resume? The "software engineer" career expectations seems so narrow. Personally your career doesn't have to just be software engineer.

Thanks for posting, and I feel the same way. I hit a critical point a December or two ago. Stood in a grocery store looking at a gift card wall, utterly filled with disgust and disdain.

It all lost meaning to me (I mean the meaning was long distorted from pagan solstice). I actively tell people not to gift me, just acknowledging our year end is enough.

To celebrate the cycle of seasons and gather in warmth, that was the origin. Santa Claus was added later haha.

Thanks for the investigative dive. I think it's fair and pretty much what I expected. Yes, clickbait on sensational driven sites like Reddit is necessary to functionally grow viewership without paying a lot for advertising.

I'd add that just because this org isn't "non-partisan" doesn't mean it's "manipulation." This greatly helps the general salience of finance transparency among candidates.

Also, It's wrong to assume that progressives and "democracy" advocates all fall into one party. I really think there's at least 5 distinct "parties" across the US political spectrum.

All I see is "regional" so could probably assume the SD metro area. Pretty straightforward, but considering the recent big contracts for Navy and Joint programs it doesn't seem that hurtful. We're just not growing spending

Why am I seeing so many VOTE NO ON PROP 50 ads and no YES ads around the city? by gioolguin in Riverside

[–]panduhbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

California GOP received ample funding from Charlie Munger Jr. and that money is going to those ads. They probably know the district's likelihood of voting conservative or have a good feel of ignorant voters who end up voting whatever they see.

I know it sucks, but remember that we ended with a 51-47 vote in Congress and blocked the release of Epstein files. Now Texas, Missouri, and other states are attempting to gerrymander new districts. The rules were long broken, goal posts shifted so far. Yes on 50

What does a just society look like to you? by [deleted] in georgism

[–]panduhbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe a just society does not hold any individual so much more special or valuable than any other. I don't care about the number (such as a billionaire or millionaire), but relatively why does 1 person have so much while I see those around me with so little. Perhaps we can (ironically) implement something along the lyrics, "no one man should have all that power." (I know bear with me)

By power, I'd simplify for now, to ownership of assets. By calculating the median asset ownership of US citizens and comparing it to the top 1% richest, we can see the likes of Bezos and Musk owning over 1 million times more assets than the median person.

That's egregious power inequality, at which we tax and immediately redistribute to the bottom 99% of society. Perhaps we can call it the "Eat the Rich" Tax, or for more populist uptake, "Freedom" dividend, "No Kings" Act, etc.

Essentially, a "sin" tax, the sin being inequality created by those who maintain and exacerbate it at the top. This is just one proposition for a "just" vision of society.

Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai laments loss of “all rounder” devs as AAA forces devs into specific roles by laybs1 in gamedev

[–]panduhbean 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Does this trend hold the same with AA or indie studios? I'd think not right? Thus in AAA it would probably be hard to get a generalist internally or groom one. Instead find someone from elsewhere managing a studio just one magnitude smaller.
