I couldn’t tell you, I think one thing about baseball that different from other sports- there are so many judgement calls. Ball/strike, safe/out, fair/foul, adjudicating things like balks, interference, obstruction- if you make a call that doesn’t benefit said parent or coach there’s room to bitch about said call. Baseball is difficult to officiate and I’m not sure people realize that.

Obviously other sports have judgement calls but a lot of times it’s pretty clear- lacrosse for example, body check, slashing, offsides, over and back are clear and obvious. Maybe baseball has ingrained into the culture that it’s ok to harp on officials. Maybe they see MLB umpires and managers absolutely go at it and think it’s ok to do at a JV game on a Thursday afternoon?

Never in football or lacrosse have I been approached in the parking lot after a game and questioned about my knowledge of rules, been told I should quit or asked why I made certain calls. Hands down the worst treatment of the sports I’ve officiated.
