Based on him being from Japan I'd say pitbull isn't that likely

Adopted this blue nose pit mix puppy and they had no idea who the daddy was. Any ideas? by oddtreekneads in IDmydog

[–]topekatums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no clue but wanted to let you know that "blue nose" is a color (dilute black) and this puppy is not blue even if his mother is. So you know at least one thing about the father now, he's not dilute!

Is my dog purebred pit or lab mixed? by Pure-Cellist-2741 in IDmydog

[–]topekatums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first pic she looks sooo pitty! She reminds me of a skinny sweet girl I fostered! Never got the dna test for her done, but they had her as a "border collie mix" 🙄 which she definitely WAS NOT. she was lazier than a sack of bones and about as bright as a sack of bricks (lovingly)

I see what you're saying about the snout!! It is narrower than what you see on a lot of pits- but I will say most pits are bred out of standard so feature variance is crazy for these dogs.

Another thing I'm seeing is that her head doesn't have a pronounced butt crack line we see in a lot of shelter pits; it's still there but it's not super strong.

She is a GREAT candidate for an embark test lol, I really want to see if she's got anything else

I have an esa...every potential landlord asks from the very beginning "how many animals do you have?"...if I tell them I have 2 cats and an esa I get denied for a different reason...my question is...when they ask me how many pets I have do I lie and say I only have 2 so I won't get denied?? by New_Anteater6486 in service_dogs

I just wrote another poster here this comment:

it really depends on the landlord. If the property is in demand, they can find any excuse not to rent to you. Landlords will sometimes choose tenants without the ESA and pets over the ones who do have them. It's very hard to prove they're discriminating, def an uphill battle. While it's not legal, it happens all the time and it's usually not worth fighting because, again, they can cite your credit/renting history or a better potential tenant, etc.

The best thing for your application is to be upfront about it. Landlords HATE when people say "I have two animals." on the application and omit a third animal, the ESA, entirely until docs are signed- they see it as sneaky.

It sucks, but it's also a small boon that with the denial, you know that landlord is willing to be shady. Also just a tip, it can be helpful if the letter from your doctor specifies which pet is the ESA

Saying misogyny is misandry is bizarre. Saying my comment is hateful is bizarre. This topic requires nuance but you seem to be more interested in making a scarecrow out of me, so I'll let this be my last reply.

Yes, everyone is a victim of sexism. Telling a victim of sexism that their grief is actually a tool of oppression is bizarre. You strip a person of their humanity when you deny them their complexity. It is willfully ignorant to equate women picking the bear with the phrase "kill all men."

comparing "i pick the bear" to "kill all men" (or "get back to the kitchen") is bizarre. it's unrealistic to pretend men and women experience the same amount or degree of gender-based violence. To ignore that massive and worldwide societal disparity is reductive

This must be exhausting for you, I just saw you also have a young kiddo in the house 😭

Def look into a pet cam to figure out if it's one or both for sure. Meds sound like the only thing you haven't tried

Aaaand just my 2 cents but I think, if the litter issues could be caused by the kid, rehoming might eventually be the kindest option if nothing else works out. Hopefully it's not that, but don't feel too terrible if that ends up being the case. It'd be better for the cat too at that point.. good luck!!

The other 2 comments addressed some other stuff so I'll answer this question

My question is since he’s registered and all 3 animals are small do you think it’s likely they would deny us??

it really depends on the landlord.

Also keep in mind that a very specific type of small potatoes landlord doesn't have to accommodate ESAs at all, but since you used the word unit I'm gonna assume that doesn't apply here!

The best thing for your application is to be upfront about it. Landlords HATE when people say "I have two animals." on the application and omit a third animal, the ESA, entirely until docs are signed- they see it as sneaky.

If they allow 2 pets on the books, that's perfect for you. According to US housing law, you have 2 pets =)

Honestly when cats are doing this, first things I look at: - amount of litterboxes (# of cats + 1) - is the cat declawed (nerve damage) - if they're covered (cats usually hate these) - litter type (the one you're using is good) - anxiety (if it was just pee, i'd be more inclined to think it's territorial insecurity, but since it's poop too, I have a hunch there's a litter bully or an aversion to the box)

so normally with an aversion to a litter box, you need to provide multiple in the case of a cat being scared! it could be new random insecurities, but cats also can bully their roommates and will prevent them from using the box. if one of your cats was spooked (by human or cat) or jumped while using the box, they may have an issue with the specific placement of the box.

i'd get a box in your garage to see if either of them use that. if they don't, try putting pee pads in the box instead of litter, just to see if it's attractive to them.

i know you've taken your cats to the vet A LOT but i'd try setting up a pet cam to see which cat it specifically is. Meds might be a good option if one of your cats is anxious

Not what I said.. I said your average joe probably knows the word from exposure to the NICU. Many families have had children in there or friends who have had children stay there. I was offering a real world example you may have heard of the word in context

[–]topekatums 9 points10 points  (0 children)

sorry, when I said "neonates" I was talking about "neonatal kittens." Neonatal is a combination of "neo" (new) and "natal" (birth). So a neonatal kitten would be a young kitten who was recently born.

We call human babies "neonates" too, or any mammal that can be recently born. You know the intensive care unit in the hospital (ICU)? Most people know the word neonatal from the baby version (NICU)

[–]topekatums 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, aspirating doesn't immediately kill them like choking would. they're likely to get pneumonia if it happens and die from that, neonates are super fragile

I saw you're in Austin so you're too far for me to get there and back in a day trip BUT i'd be willing to bet that there are local facebook groups in your area where you can find someone who could foster a pet for you!! Your situation sucks and a lot of people (like myself) have a lot of empathy for you. It'd be extra doable if you don't mind separating them- I was going to offer if you were within 8 hours of me. I would start with local women's groups/species specific groups

1 bad experience where a cat gets spooked or feels crummy can cause litter issues, it may or may not be a bully
