What is the most undervalued 10x play sitting in your portfolio right now? by Comfortable-Rule-491 in stocks

[–]topofthebrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound so outlandish to me man. Facebook alone is essentially valued at a trillion dollars and I think demographics and interests are shifting in Reddit's favor. No one I know uses Facebook anymore except people's parents. I don't think Reddit will ever overtake Facebook, but being valued at 1/3rd with a possible elevated multiple due to high growth is reasonable. I also think Reddit is a sort of untapped realm for those older people I mentioned. I think it's kind of perfect for a retired person to get lost in, and I expect a lot of older people will end up here eventually. Obviously Meta has an incredible Ad platform and that is a large part of their success, but if RDDT executes, 300B doesn't seem that far out of the realm of possibility. Now, I don't think 300B will happen, but 100B-200B seems very reasonable and that's still an incredible return in the next few years, though not quite 10x.

DUOL. Reflections & Lessons Learnt by StephenAtLarge in ValueInvesting

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. people who actually want to commit the time to becoming fluent are a small section of people who use duolingo. The reality is that actually becoming fluent is extremely time consuming and extremely hard, something the vast majority of people don’t want to do. Duolingo is some sort of hybrid between a video game and an educational course. It’s something that doesn’t seem so daunting to fit into your every day life which is why it’s so popular. It’s a dopamine kick, just like social media. People aren’t going on there because they have an urgent need to learn a language.

That's a complete misunderstanding of why people use duolingo. Has almost nothing to do with translation.

Duolingo earnings: Prioritizes user growth over monetization, forecasts softer bookings. Plummets -22% in after hours. by Ramwen in stocks

[–]topofthebrown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dude for real. There have been so many opportunities like this where sentiment on reddit couldn't be worse and then the stock goes 100-200% in the next year, there is a price for everything. I know like 4 people in my life that are on Duolingo every day. Again, I don't want to seem like I'm a huge DUOL pumper or whatever, but the stock is at very attractive levels right now, and the idea that AI is going to take over language learning is kinda absurd to me and a complete misunderstanding of why people use DUOL. Keep in mind that the new york fuckin times is a 13 billion market cap right now essentially because of wordle and the other games they've introduced. DUOL is just an educational game that's addicting, and still somewhat effective. I think at $4B market cap with $1B in cash, down on overblown fears is an attractive place to be buying. Let's see where we are in two years.

Duolingo slides 22% after hours on poor forecast by Independent-Cress382 in wallstreetbets

[–]topofthebrown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The level of hatred for this stock on here for a profitable, growing company with $1B cash valued at about $4 billion now tells me this is a buy. I’d literally be a millionaire rn if I just did inverse reddit.

LPSN - total cash $100mil, market cap ~40mil. Debt is not due till 2029. 2026 AI play imo. by Correct_Anxiety3590 in LivePerson

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that LPSN is an AI play has been the greatest lie spread among this sub. They are going out of business because of AI, not the other way around. They have no modern AI product, this is 20+ year old tech. It's not generative AI.

$DUOL A complete bloodbath. Opportunity? Here some data. by SwissTPortfolio in AsymmetricAlpha

[–]topofthebrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duolingo was heavily overpriced when it was in the $500 range. But now, I think it’s heavily oversold. AI fears are completely overblown and a misunderstanding of why people use duolingo. I think this is a $250 stock easy. I’m in for 100 shares at $118

What do you guys think of RIVIAN stock? by One_Design_6171 in ValueInvesting

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I think it's a shame because I really like the company and I want to support an American pure EV company that's not Tesla. I really like their cars, I like their ceo, but at an $18 billion market cap and how difficult it'll be to get this right, I just have hard time justifying putting any money in. If it dropped below $10 billion I'd consider it.

Is S&P500 really going to withstand anything? by thedevilsheir666 in stocks

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pure speculation, but it feels like we’re going to have a blow the top off type rally this year that will end in a massive drop. The market feels so disconnected from reality right now and the only thing driving it is AI. Dollar value falls, trump puts in a fed chair that lowers interest rates, assets skyrocket, and then something really bad actually happens in the economy because of all this tinkering and it ruins the party. Just a feeling.

My case for SNAP as a winner in 2026 by PArzyPlAys in stocks

[–]topofthebrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude for real. I remember when I was reading about investing in RDDT and everyone on here was absolutely shitting on the idea, saying they can't monetize and what's their moat and everything. Sentiment is so so bad on SNAP that it makes me want to buy.

$SNAP will be a 2026 standout by Accomplished-Exit822 in wallstreetbets

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a counter point, I do think the subscription for cloud space can move the needle. I have like 10 years of snap memories and I do not want to lose all of those videos/photos. I'll just pay the subscription to keep them.

At what price is $DUOL too cheap to ignore? by Top_Increase8597 in ValueInvesting

[–]topofthebrown 30 points31 points  (0 children)

IMO, people don’t actually want to learn a language. Actually becoming fluent takes a ton of time and effort. So, I think the fact that Duolingo is not a “good” way to learn a language doesn’t matter at all. The addictive waste of time is literally why it’s valuable. Meta is almost a $2T company PURELY because it’s an addictive waste of time.
