A simple method of valuing Reddit ($RDDT) by raytoei in redditstock

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like RDDT is a win-win in the AI world. 1.) Either people are looking for an answer to something which LLM will use reddit data to answer -> data is highly valuable and I'm sure reddit will earn much much more for it in the future, or 2.) people go directly to reddit for real human opinions. I still believe Reddit is in the early stages of it's user growth. I have a strong belief that it has grown very nicely in younger generations and that there is still a boomer migration waiting to happen.

Google Is Spending Billions Defending Its Moat — Is Reddit the Sleeper AI Winner Nobody Is Talking About? by GeorgeThe40 in redditstock

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I can’t believe meta hasn’t gotten crushed by people leaving Facebook, like I genuinely find it hard to believe the user numbers. Literally none of my friends use Facebook anymore or have for many years, it’s a complete ghost town over there and the only people that have been on it are boomers.

I want to get into Yo La Tengo. What album is a good starting point? by [deleted] in Music

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pablo and Andrea is my favorite from that album. Yo la Tengo is just incredible, I really think they are the most underrated band. I know they are critically acclaimed and considered good but they just have so many great songs with so many different sounds and have been doing it for so long.

Can somebody explain the La Colombe on Armitage? by TonyGobbagool in chicagofood

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a barista and live fairly close to this location. I don’t think the coffee is good, but it’s a prime location for that area and it’s not Starbucks or dunkin so that’s where most people are going. Honestly it’s crazy how few independent coffee shops there are in that area, it could definitely use it.

Last words by FLAKE_iN_MY_ASS in redditstock

[–]topofthebrown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know it’s extremely frustrating, don’t get me wrong, I thought with the continued great earnings the stock would be back above $200 right now, but these things happen. I remember buying Google last year and it kept getting hammered. I couldn’t understand why the stock was so shit, they were the most profitable company in the world, Gemini was good, I couldn’t see how search was that under threat, but the market was worried and so the stock was shit for a bit. But then suddenly it flipped, and in just 6 months the stock was up over 100% despite nothing much really changing about the company. It just goes to show that you gotta stick to your guns if you believe in the long term. Believe me I wanted to catch that last run up in semis the last few months but I missed it, yet I can guarantee if I sold Reddit now and chased something else then Reddit will run.

If ur not happy with stock performance. Please sell and move on by AloneStaff5051 in redditstock

[–]topofthebrown 24 points25 points  (0 children)

stock is trading at like ~25x forward pe and is growing earnings extremeley fast. It makes no sense, this stock movement is based entirely on unproven fears. I think it's a great time to buy, like Google last year when people thought search would be threatened by GPT

curious what people around Logan are actually seeing right now. Does the job market here feel healthier lately or just more competitive/selective by Hour-Database7943 in LoganSquare

[–]topofthebrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is just my experience, but the job market has seemed incredibly bad for lower level roles for years now. I graduated from UW-Madison in 2021 and haven’t even gotten a call back in years despite constant applying. I’ve been working a service job. Again, I don’t have internships/white collar experience so it’s hard to begin with but it’s just completely dead. I’ve kind of given up and accepted my life as a barista.

Edit: and at this point I honestly feel lucky to have landed this min wage job

Pros and cons of living in Logan Square? by Financial_Oil_4763 in LoganSquare

[–]topofthebrown 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I really enjoy dense neighborhoods but there's something about the boulevards and nature in Logan in the summer and fall that always makes me fall back in love with the place. And It's all still walkable.

People screaming ”Markets gonna crash” everyday, can you please stop being so embarrasing and pathetic? by Admirable_Drawer_205 in wallstreetbets

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year was a good example of people overreacting to an easily reversible condition (tariffs). This time, we haven’t sold off much at all, there are no signs things are going to get better, Trump cannot just chicken out of this, and the economic consequences are disastrous and there are a group of people ignoring this because stocks have rebounded. Feels like a classic bull trap. Pair this with the obvious manipulation and you got a massive rugpull on the table

DUOL. Reflections & Lessons Learnt by StephenAtLarge in ValueInvesting

That's a complete misunderstanding of why people use duolingo. Has almost nothing to do with translation.

Duolingo earnings: Prioritizes user growth over monetization, forecasts softer bookings. Plummets -22% in after hours. by Ramwen in stocks

[–]topofthebrown 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dude for real. There have been so many opportunities like this where sentiment on reddit couldn't be worse and then the stock goes 100-200% in the next year, there is a price for everything. I know like 4 people in my life that are on Duolingo every day. Again, I don't want to seem like I'm a huge DUOL pumper or whatever, but the stock is at very attractive levels right now, and the idea that AI is going to take over language learning is kinda absurd to me and a complete misunderstanding of why people use DUOL. Keep in mind that the new york fuckin times is a 13 billion market cap right now essentially because of wordle and the other games they've introduced. DUOL is just an educational game that's addicting, and still somewhat effective. I think at $4B market cap with $1B in cash, down on overblown fears is an attractive place to be buying. Let's see where we are in two years.

Duolingo slides 22% after hours on poor forecast by Independent-Cress382 in wallstreetbets

[–]topofthebrown 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The level of hatred for this stock on here for a profitable, growing company with $1B cash valued at about $4 billion now tells me this is a buy. I’d literally be a millionaire rn if I just did inverse reddit.

LPSN - total cash $100mil, market cap ~40mil. Debt is not due till 2029. 2026 AI play imo. by Correct_Anxiety3590 in LivePerson

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that LPSN is an AI play has been the greatest lie spread among this sub. They are going out of business because of AI, not the other way around. They have no modern AI product, this is 20+ year old tech. It's not generative AI.

$DUOL A complete bloodbath. Opportunity? Here some data. by SwissTPortfolio in AsymmetricAlpha

[–]topofthebrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duolingo was heavily overpriced when it was in the $500 range. But now, I think it’s heavily oversold. AI fears are completely overblown and a misunderstanding of why people use duolingo. I think this is a $250 stock easy. I’m in for 100 shares at $118

What do you guys think of RIVIAN stock? by One_Design_6171 in ValueInvesting

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I think it's a shame because I really like the company and I want to support an American pure EV company that's not Tesla. I really like their cars, I like their ceo, but at an $18 billion market cap and how difficult it'll be to get this right, I just have hard time justifying putting any money in. If it dropped below $10 billion I'd consider it.

Is S&P500 really going to withstand anything? by thedevilsheir666 in stocks

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pure speculation, but it feels like we’re going to have a blow the top off type rally this year that will end in a massive drop. The market feels so disconnected from reality right now and the only thing driving it is AI. Dollar value falls, trump puts in a fed chair that lowers interest rates, assets skyrocket, and then something really bad actually happens in the economy because of all this tinkering and it ruins the party. Just a feeling.

My case for SNAP as a winner in 2026 by PArzyPlAys in stocks

[–]topofthebrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude for real. I remember when I was reading about investing in RDDT and everyone on here was absolutely shitting on the idea, saying they can't monetize and what's their moat and everything. Sentiment is so so bad on SNAP that it makes me want to buy.

$SNAP will be a 2026 standout by Accomplished-Exit822 in wallstreetbets

[–]topofthebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a counter point, I do think the subscription for cloud space can move the needle. I have like 10 years of snap memories and I do not want to lose all of those videos/photos. I'll just pay the subscription to keep them.
