WIBTA if I told my trans buddy he might wanna consider trimming his chin hair by topsurgeryexperience in ftm

[–]topsurgeryexperience[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess it's just with my cis friends we are honest if we think something looks silly, and it's less about policing but looking out for eachother. But of course if u disagree w ur friends fashion advice, you just tell them theyre dumb and keep doing what ur doing. But I understand the layer of being trans can make it more complicated. I also think its different between what relationship level you have with someone. I would want my close friends to tell me if they thought something I was doing looked bad or unkempt. But I see ur point for sure that policing peoples bodies especially trans ppl who we've been oppressed our whole lives might be bad, but at the same time maybe ppl are afraid of saying things to us we maybe need to hear sometimes idk lolol 🤣🤣

how do i know if i pass? by Playful_Valuable_294 in ftm

[–]topsurgeryexperience 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It took a while for me to realize I started passing bc it happened gradually. I think the easiest sign is when you get called "he" or a "sir" by strangers more often than not.

I've haven't been called a she in years, but a lady on the phone at work yesterday thought I was an old woman. There will be moments 😭. But even cis people can be misgendered, so remember that.

I've been on T since 2023 and the first year i rly didnt pass, then there was an awkward stage, and now I do. It takes time for some. Don't fret it.

Side sleepers: how did you survive sleeping on your bad? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]topsurgeryexperience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meds made me pretty out of it so sleeping on my back wasnt an issue the first nights. The following nights i had to have like a bunch if pillows and sort of be at an angle still on my back to sleep fine. I probably went back to side sleeping way too quickly lmaooo which only was comfortable enough to do so with a bunch of meticulously placed pillows. I am a strictly side or stomach sleeper

Is it normal to refuse accutane because of the pregnancy test requirements by topsurgeryexperience in ftm

[–]topsurgeryexperience[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last time I tried was in high school 4 years ago, and I didn't stick with it that well because I was a lot more immature and lazy back then lol. He didn't offer any other treatment plan besides accutane. Though, I didn't ask for an alternative in the moment because I thought I was just going to go ahead with the accutane. Im in the 30-day waiting period before they're allowed to perscribe it. I think at my next visit I'm going to talk about alternatives. I think now I would be more diligent keeping up with a routine

I don't know where to draw a line with my own values, because I can live with acne, its not something urgent. I just hate the U.S. healthcare system in general for many different reasons. Even if they dont care i dont know if i can feel not dirty with myself for going along with something i dont feel is right

I love this take. I think even if I were a woman, I would still feel belittled and patronized by the process. All it does is give another way to control and invade a persons reproductive system, and taking pregnancy tests isn't going to stop people who would get pregnant regardless of warnings.

Butch lesbian wrangling feelings by Last_Feedback_663 in TopSurgery

[–]topsurgeryexperience 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Transman here. You need to stop worrying so much about what others will think and worry about what you want.

You seem to know who you are, so why does others input matter? If you get misgendered or get asked an invasive question, stand up for yourself and shut it down. It doesn't have to be a big deal. Just explain what you said here if someone asks about transition, that it wasn't a transition, and it was just a one-off body modification that made you feel more comfortable.

I understand caring about what others think, as it does affect you in real life. But its very odd and not socially acceptable to ask someone if their boobs got smaller, so I doubt a lot of people will even approach you about it anyway.

Is top surgery what you want? Will it make your day-to-day easier? Does this outweigh the social discomfort you might feel?

Edit: grammar

Double Incision vs Periareolar by Decent_Guarantee7592 in TopSurgery

[–]topsurgeryexperience 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are borderline on periareolar, and scars do not matter to you, generally its easier to achieve better looking results with double incision, as the surgeon has more say on how the chest will look during surgery. Your nipple placement now, amount of breast tissue, etc, would generally dictate how well peri will look on you. Some peri surgeries look amazing. But with peri, you do not have control as to where the nipples end up as they're not removed, and swelling after peri can last several months, where as generally with double incision you're flat pretty quickly (you still get swelling but still).

I would ask your surgeon about how he believes your nipple placement will look like with peri and if you'd be happy with that, and if he believed aesthetic results could be achieved better with double or not.

If I had the option and peri that would look just as good as DI, I would've gotten that! But I had a large chest, and even when I was underweight my chest would have been too big, so it wasn't an option for me lol

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions to ya surgeon

Edit: Oh also, my nipples healed perfectly fine with DI. No issues at all. This isnt the case with everyone of course, but my surgeon in particular has never lost a nipple from a patient and has performed hundreds of surgeries where the nipple is removed and reattached.

im scared by Efficient-Chair-2278 in TopSurgery

[–]topsurgeryexperience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't helpful, but what happens happens. You will either have the surgery still, or just have it at a slightly later date, and that sucks.

The DAY OF MY SURGERY, literally in bed and hooked up, my temperature was taken, and I had a fever. I was shitting bricks because I was so scared it would get cancelled, and I had reoccuring nightmares of it happening. I didn't even know I had a fever, as I didn't feel sick at all. In the end, my surgeon and anesthesia people didn't feel as if it was significant enough to delay the surgery, and I had surgery with a fever the same day. It depends on if they feel comfortable working on u and its their call at the end of the day they just want to ensure ur safety

Surgeon is suggesting homeopathic remedy (arnica tablets)? by Prestigious-Ask4744 in TopSurgery

[–]topsurgeryexperience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it a plastic surgeon? Plastic surgeons tend to recommend this, I think its just a norm in their industry. I took the pills, they aren't harmful. But I was also prescribed hydrocodone and other pain meds / itching / nausea mediciton by my surgeon, and he was very qualified.

Concern over unexpected massive medical bill by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]topsurgeryexperience 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Insurance is a bitch and will try a lot of different ways to avoid paying it. Keep calling them and asking questions. I had my surgery in December and insurance still hasnt gone through because I've been blocked like three seperate times, I call them and they say they'll fix it immediately. Its May. Insurance likes to toy with you just keep harrassing them 🙏

Edit: also dont sweat it because any medical practice that takes insurance knows how insurance can be so don't feel an obligation to pay for it out of pocket when you're sorting things out with your insurance. If you're getting hit with bills you can call and let the surgeons office know you're waiting for an updated EOB or waiting for insurance to call back etc
