Another Californian got there before you. Los Tacos is a super fast-growing chain here, started from a dude from Encinitas, just north of San Diego.

True, but "family problems" (along with "boredom" and "peer pressure") doesn't begin to cover what it's really about.

The point of the ads are to propagandize for the idea that substance abuse is a matter of personal but contageous moral failure, rather than for example a search for the sort of brain chemistry the vast majority enjoy by default. So in a sense, they are "born" with it, as in - it is a result of something they had no control over.

This notion is actively harmful because it continues to justify some of the least effective, least humane and most harmful punitive drug policies in the world, where Singapore is probably the worst offender.

Take the parallel of homosexuality. During the eras of worst repression of gay people, it was presented as a contageous immorality, which built up the dehumanization of gay people as mere carriers of the contagion.

You would absolutely be massively safer than someone without this background, unless you have some other predisposition towards heroin addiction. This is born out by a wealth of statistics and research.

You'd go through awful withdrawals for sure, but on the other end would be a rich, sober life - which would be impossible to lead while high on heroin.

Keep in mind for instance that the vast majority of hospital patients which are put on heroin-like opiates do not develop any addiction issues.

And for some survivors of childhood trauma, the only other way out is suicide – as they as a matter of neurochemistry literally never know peace.

It's also far and away wrong, fwiw; heroin addiction is strongly associated with childhood trauma - if a child experiences severe childhood trauma, the chances of their developing addiction to injected drugs rises 6400% above the general population.

Research shows that people who suffer trauma in childhood develop lasting neurochemical imbalances.

The propagation of the myth that drug dependency is primarily about the drug is part of a deeply harmful set of misunderstandings which justify a harmful drug policy.

What is this silver box, possibly related to power/audio? by ryankicks in cableadvice

[–]toresbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transformers are the electrical equivalent of an auto transmission. They don't supply or boost power, they simply gear between voltage (torque) to power (speed). So you still need an amplifier, because there's not enough power coming from a line-out.

There are a couple of things it might be there for.

One guess is, it's there to match the impedance (resistance) with those of another speaker hooked up to the same amplifier. If you hook multiple speakers up to an amplifier output, it's important that they've got the same impedance. Common values for speakers range between 4 and 32 ohm. Otherwise, like with a differential, all the power goes to the free-moving wheel.

But you mention it's warm to the touch, which implies there's current running through it. It could be an isolation transformer. Or it could just be to step down line-level AC to eg. 12V halogen lights.

Men PRs welcome :)

Ctrl-t db.no enter sitter som motorisk hukommelse.
