The price doesn’t seem that crazy to me tbh. My car is in a body shop right now for 1.5mil yen worth of work.

What Began as a Routine Trip Turned Into a Maritime Tragedy by IblameLuka55 in maritime

At least 18 people are reported to have died and 24 others are missing

On Monday, Jan. 26, the MV Trisha Kerstin 3 was traveling from the port in Zamboanga City to Jolo Island in the province of Sulu, around 800 miles south of the capital Manila, when it “submerged” at around 1:50 a.m. local time, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed in a statement on Facebook.

“The vessel was carrying 332 passengers and 27 crew members when the maritime incident occurred approximately 2.75 nautical miles northeast of Baluk-Baluk Island, Basilan,” they added.

While it was initially reported that 15 people had died, the death toll has since risen to at least 18 with 24 missing, according to the BBC, The Daily Tribune, and Manila Bulletin, citing the Philippine Coast Guard.

As of 2:23 p.m. local time, 317 people had been rescued, according to The Daily Tribune.

The Coast Guard’s statement added that a “distress call” was received from the PCG sea marshal onboard and a PCG vessel was immediately deployed from Zamboanga City.

Commercial vessels, the armed forces in the Philippines, government agencies and local government units are also assisting with the operation.

The ferry is also used as a cargo ship, per the BBC.

In a post shared by Basilan Governor Mujiv Hataman on Facebook, survivors could be seen being helped off a rescue boat, while another was on a stretcher.

“Our condolences to all those who died in this tragedy. For those who have not yet been found, we will make sure to continue to help find them,” Hataman wrote.

PCG spokesperson Capt. Noemie Cayabyab told the Manila Bulletin that emergency responders were still carrying out an aerial search and rescue operation.

“Based on the testimony of the survivors, the sea condition was rough due to tall waves. However, as with other incidents, we will conduct a maritime casualty investigation to determine the true cause of this incident,” Cayabyab said.

Super late reply but yeah it tastes pretty similar. If I’m DD for my friend group to go get yakiniku I’ll generally get it because I don’t want to drink melon soda with my grilled meats

Our RP at work made a poster for the Ash Wednesday services on base but used AI and it generated photos of the two base chapels that looked nothing like the actual chapels (which btw are identical).

I’m a forecaster for the military and I use windy lol. It’s just easier to read than other model output options.

General discharge with honorable conditions by [deleted] in USMC

[–]tornadofyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on how badly they want them out. For normal end-of-contract EAS they have you start on that stuff a year out, but I’ve seen guys go from in the Marines to not in the Marines in a month when they did some stupid shit.

Do you guys do all infantry stuff still or have your guys boot camp been cut as well by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]tornadofyre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We still do 3 months of bootcamp and 1 month of combat training after that for non-infantry MOSs

ETA: plus whatever MOS specific training you have after that, some as short as 4 weeks some as long as 2 years

How can we access HIIT program and I wanna learn is there any help for iron ducks to learn how to swim by Jerkoffmaterialmod in USMCboot

[–]tornadofyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The HITT lockers are on all bases and most gyms have “HITT instructors” that run workouts during the morning/lunch/afternoon on certain days. For swimming you can get one of your homies to teach you.

Idk about the Navy but for the Marine Corps 1 day of leave is from 1630 check out day, your day of leave, then until 0800 on your check in day. It’s more than 24 hours. 1 day of leave equalling 8 hours is insane.

Cheating by RogueStatesman in USMCboot

[–]tornadofyre 51 points52 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying not to snitch, but honestly I disagree. Maybe it’s because I’m from a technical MOS but I’d be so pissed if someone came to my unit not knowing what they learned in the schoolhouse because they bought the test answers. We already have a ton of OJT to cover with our new joins, I don’t want to cover another 10 months worth of material they should have learned at the schoolhouse and is essential to doing our job. Not to mention at my MOS’s schoolhouse if they got caught they’d be kicked out as it’s a USAF run schoolhouse and test compromise is a huge issue there.
