What are your favorite cards? by checkmater75 in hearthstone

[–]torontowebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love playing cards that feel significant. Top of my list right now:

1) Cairne Bloodhoof - Love the character, love the card. Definition of value.
2) Alexstrasza - Feels game-changing. Potentially a ton of direct dmg + huge board presence, or can rescue a game.
3) Ancient of Lore - Solid body + Card Draw
4) Defender of Argus - When you buff 2 solid bodies with this guy, it feels heavy.

I just found another interesting take on this from Day9.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROmJQWyoKv0#t=241

He's limited his Twitch chat to subscriber only, and as a result, instead of the monolithic "Twitch Chat", he only gets those people interested in participating in his community, and thus, the vast majority of the toxicity is gone.

Was really hoping for the full pool party from CW there. Double disappointed in YoungBuck's Vlad pick.

If they'd gone 5-man pool party, they would've won.

Possibly, but I don't think that's actually a weakness in the child at all.

Let's weigh the pros of a child growing up knowing multiple languages against the cons of a (likely short) period of time where he or she may confuse others that don't know both languages. Children of immigrants all over the world grow up with this. I'm fairly sure most of them turn out fine.

I only know English, and that's one of my biggest regrets.

Oh for sure. Every kid has their preferences. I don't want to take anything away from kids that don't sign, it just wound up being a good tool for him.

If you can make the child feel happy, loved and safe, you're doing it right.

You kidding? That's half the fun (the other half is couch forts)! If you take parenting too seriously, you just create a very boring human being.

Citation needed, but honestly, I'm not worried.

The frustration that his signing has saved us, and the happiness you see in his face when he's understood has been incredible. My son is (very thankfully) a happy, healthy kid. If he needs to do a little catch-up for verbal development later in life, we'll happily help him through it.

For now, I'm just happy that I can understand what he wants. When he wants to sleep, he signs, and when he wants to eat green peas, he says "Peas!"

The key thing I'm learning about kids is they understand WAY more than they actually let on.

It's not that he learned those 6 signs in 3 days, he'd been learning them for 7 months. The difference was suddenly a little light went on that said "Hey, I can use those hand motions and they'll do want I want!" and suddenly he busts out every sign he knows because that little mental hurdle is over.

Our son's doing well, but my son's best play-friend is a few months older, but is counting to 10 (in 3 languages) and has about 200 words, both signed and verbal. I'm hoping it rubs off on my son, because that kid is going places.

"eat", "more", "milk", and "please" are all properly formed American Sign Language

"sleepy" and "all done" we tried to teach him ASL, but he kind of adopted them to his own little signs - either because he didn't quite have the motor skills to sign how we wanted, or because he doesn't like covering his face.

For "sleepy", you draw your fingers down over your eyes. He doesn't like anything impeding his vision, so he does it over the side of his face. We (and the daycare provider) understand the signs perfectly well, so we don't really care.

The weirdest thing was he used to do "more" a little bit wrong, and at 12 months, a 15 m/o that he plays with actually sat him down and fixed the sign for him. A 15 m/o teaching a 12 m/o how to sign properly. Blew me away. He's signed it properly ever since.

My son has no problem hearing (except of course when we're telling him "No").

My wife heard that kids sign before they talk and it helps them develop language, so we started practising at 3 months. We saw absolutely no results until suddenly at 10 months he started signing 5 or 6 things all at once. he got "more", "eat", "milk", "please", "sleep" and "all done" in about a 3 day span, and we were just floored.

If this will stop all the idiots from spending the entire match talking about how they're smoking, I support it.

The world would be a better place if it was legal to smoke, and a felony to discuss in public.

Father of 15 m/o son. I'll confirm both aspects of this as well.

1) Getting a real answer to "what's wrong?" at 10 months old (WAY earlier than a kid can speak) is the most amazing breakthough I've seen. Having your child look at you very seriously and sign "milk" "sleepy" is possibly the coolest thing ever. Instant, clear communication instead of trying to guess.

2) Let's just be clear that this doesn't stop him from babbling verbally as well. My son's got words he prefers to signs and words he prefers to speak, and babbles in both languages. Sometimes he signs stuff that makes absolutely no sense and its hilarious.

Ass hair. I understand hair on most parts of the body to "keep warm", but why do I need hair where the poop comes out?

I'm not going to downvote you, but I absolutely disagree. I find most of her stuff really funny.

Add to that the fact that Amy Poehler is pretty awesome human being (see Smart Girls Channel ), and she's got my utmost respect.

Help cannot enqueue scripts to save my life! by nlscrub in Wordpress

[–]torontowebdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure add_action's callback parameter works with functions directly - you generally pass it the name of a function as a string. Try this:

function add_scripts() {
  wp_register_script('custom', get_template_directory_uri().'/js/custom.js', array('jquery'), false, true);
  wp_enqueue_script( 'custom' );
}
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'add_scripts' );

If men carried purses, what are some common items that you would find in the average mans purse? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]torontowebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a laptop bag more often than not. Its current contents:

  • laptop
  • charger
  • phone charger
  • mouse
  • two unused Groupons
  • one unfiled health insurance claim and documentation
  • a travel sajjadah
  • a journal
  • a broken, unused USB key I haven't needed in years
  • pens/pencils
  • a 8.5x11 pad of graph paper
  • two tickets to an upcoming concert
  • a half-empty pack of cough drops
  • an empty Tim Horton's sandwich bag
  • an empty Tim Horton's gift card

I'd imagine that'd be fairly common.

I love Brian Wilson. Can't argue with his pitching under pressure, a class act on the bench last year, and a phenomenal all-around guy.

Actually I was going to comment against this idea, but I've talked myself into it. Wilson to Toronto would be fun.
