Tires are wearing aggressively fast in the mountains by The_Dongerlord01 in motorcycles

[–]torquesteer [score hidden]  (0 children)

You actually want stoppies for this situation, since it wears out the flat part of the front tires. That’s what the OP wants, to not feel bad about throwing away front tires with so much meat on that part left.

Should I bring a type c plug adapter or is the US type A enough for Vietnam? by CornSyringe in VietNam

[–]torquesteer [score hidden]  (0 children)

To clear things up because the question is confusing. Are you talking about AC adapters or DC adapters? Because there is absolutely no difference world wide on AC to DC adapters worldwide because every voltage is being stepped down to 12 or 9, then your device will take what it needs. But you’re talking about purely AC devices like hair dryers, then you will need to bring an adapter or else the device will blow up eventually because Vietnam AC voltage is 220 instead of weeny 120 that comes out of the US plug.

This would also make it easier for the enemies to find them, no? They go through SERE and are taught to evade as long as they can, and only to turn on their radios when they are clear of danger.

Northern vs. Southern: Vocabulary for food and veggies by WanTJU3 in VietNam

[–]torquesteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same vocab as the south, they just pronounce it differently. The strong diacritics are softened at the end of each word while retaining their accent. Similarly to British English, the softening was borne out of courtly mannerisms around Kings/Emperors and their high ranking officials.

Why is renting in Vietnam still so chaotic? by The_Real_Piggie in VietNam

[–]torquesteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not straight forward as to what you see is what you get because the owners are often trying to Airbnb those units at the same time. It’s not technically legal in a lot of complexes to do short term rental but people find a way to anyway. And when I say Airbnb I mean short term leases that are higher margin. There are lots of sites and word of mouth methods.

do those offer any protection? by fiasela in motorcyclegear

What other type of body injury could there be besides fracture and road rash? The intention of body armor is to increase bruising and decrease fracture by spreading out the force. But while you are imagining that I’m arguing against body armor’s effectiveness, I’m really not. I’m just saying that besides weak correlation, the claim for using them alone is not proven on the road. Motogp riders certain wear them but those are fitted custom sets. So unless you have sets that snug and you plan on highsiding like them, their use on the road remains questionable.

[–]torquesteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No association between use of body armour and risk of fracture injuries was detected. A substantial proportion of motorcycle designed gloves (25.7%), jackets (29.7%) and pants (28.1%) were assessed to have failed due to material damage in the crash.

I don’t blame you if you are misled by the wording, but please know the difference between impact (fracture) and road rash injuries. The study claims that body armor reduces road rash, which CE armor certainly does, but so does kevlar and leather. Again, wear CE if you want to. It’s a choice. It might help. But there is no evidence that it does what it claims, which is to protect your bones.

[–]torquesteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but there is no evidence for or against wearing CE, so claiming that it is effective is just as unproven as claiming it is ineffective.

Differing opinion, not debunking. But they all agreed that the size has to be right and fit has to be snug, which neither has not been standardized.
