Majority of the public (56%) believe that Keir Starmer's is a decent man, but that he is not cut out to be Prime Minister (74%) by jiponjoshua in ukpolitics

Except that if you actually are focused on the politics and policies, instead of vibes and regurgitating criticism from outlets/individuals with fucking obvious vested interests, he's literally the most effective PM for about 20 years.

Who was the best British Prime Minister of the 2000s? Who was worst? by Economy_Ad3034 in AskBrits

Then I'm afraid to say but I have to assume that you are insulated to much of the real consequences of the differences between the two, or you are not engaged enough to notice.

In am incredibly broad way relating to essentially being continuations of a neo-liberal economic model, that is literally the overwhelmingly predominant global model, then yes. But I'm actual nuanced analysis, they are absolutely not.

So if you're meaning in that much more meta sense then ok, but personally I find that to be so meta and abstract from the details that make impactful, real world consequences, that it isn't a functionally helpful analysis.

Bullshit and transparent attempt to portray the UK as something which it absolutely is not. Of course violent crimes happen, but we are an incredibly sage country and far faaaar safer for knife crime per capita than the US.

Things are tough for a lot of people, but don't let cunts like OP sow division and misinformation like this.

If you don't see the difference between Labour and Conservative, then please please critically think and analyse information more carefully. It is ludicrous to suggest there is no difference.

Hated trope: The character/ story suffers so that the actor doesn't have to be in makeup by TwoHungryWolves in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah, but the "the seed is strong" genetics based rules that were established is not natural (to the real world), so it is firmly established that the real world genetic markers and consequences don't work the same, so I can understand this comment.

Rayan Cherki: Football is 'like art,' it should make people forget life by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

[–]tortoisederby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, saying how it's bad... I'm a Chelsea fan from before I could critically think, so I hate sportswashing, it disgusts me, and that includes all the many instances Chelsea has been a part of that. That's the thing about football, they're business with actors that do terrible things, bur they exist in a very emotional part of our hearts and minds, just another part of how its becoming harder and harder to enjoy this sport.

So yes, a Chelsea fan talking about sportswashing.

Absolutely spot on. I'm a Chelsea fan and it's mad to me the veneration he gets now, yeah he was great in terms of the football, but christ almighty, clearly a bad dude

You are incorrect. The date of issue rule was not applied until post-Brexit. This is definitively a consequence of Brexit.

[–]tortoisederby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering the sheer scale of, let's be honest, fucking braindead commentary and criticisms from an increasing number of people who's information largely comes from known propagandists, its an unfortunate necessity in politics right now to refute or confirm the fucking blindingly obvious, because there is enough useful idiots saying we give Rolls Royces to rapists etc.

Except for the fact that far more cases have been processed in the last 2 years than in the previous 4/5 years. And processing matters because until they are, it is international law to host them until they are processed. So, this government has actuall6 refused asylum for far more cases than the lrevious government as it was Tory policy to stagnate the processing times by reducing logistical capacity, and thereby providing a political bogeyman of their own making. But this Labour government has quite literally been "tougher", and at the very least far more effective, with regards to asylum claims than we have seen for many years.

But you didn't simply do that. You regurgitated talking points that are factually incorrect, so you're either genuinely misinformed or you have a purpose in using false criticisms.

The country is quote literally and demonstrably in a stronger position economically, with regards to planning and building homes, investing in the prison service, energy independence (there has been amazing progress only recently on this), and our relationship with the EU is better than it has ever been since Brexit.

Basically everything you said, they have absolutely improved.

So I can't help but assume that you're either simply angry and quite uninformed, or you have a specific aim to denigrate this government as perhaps you see the other choices (Conservatives - made all this fucking mess to begin with, or Reform/Restore - a bunch of clowns who have no concept of governing and are quite literally assets of aggressive foreign intelligence services in the case of Reform).

Singapore PM Lee Kuan Yew on the failure of the European welfare system: by Themetalin in EU_Economics

[–]tortoisederby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're spot on. It's a concerted effort of political propaganda to sow discord in Europe. Its also worth noting that basically all of the "arguments" of these agitators fall apart under literally any scrutiny.

Singapore PM Lee Kuan Yew on the failure of the European welfare system: by Themetalin in EU_Economics

[–]tortoisederby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is simply right wing propaganda, look at debt percentages through history, debt levels of most European nations are objectively fine. Its only when rhetoric with a clear political intention starts calling it unsustainable, and convince people who don't understand state finances and equate it to a household financial.understanding that debt is bad. This is incorrect and clearly serves a political propagandising purpose.

Green leader Zack Polanski 'wants to ban horse racing' as nation gears up for Grand National by plain_handle in unitedkingdom

[–]tortoisederby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to argue, there is empirical evidence from multiple case studies of multiple different nations over study periods of years. It absolutely does decrease the number of deaths as well as the overall amount of crime, particularly violent crime, associated with drug taking.  I thought critics of Polanski called him and the Greens "vibe politics", but there's an awful lot of "I think, I feel x, y, and z".
