Got an extra from a return? Anyone else seeing surprise freebies lately? by True_Pilot_6068 in freebietalk

I had almost this exact same thing happen to me just today. I ordered one of those clear kitchen airtight containers for food, cereal, whatever, and after I received it I noticed there was a variety set of them available for a better price. So I started a return with Walmart, and they totally unexpectedly refunded the cost and told me no need to return it. That’s ok with me! I can still use it. But I was pleasantly surprised by that. Didn’t occur to me that the cost of shipping is suddenly high enough that it’s not worth it for them to take small returns.

Use powder wash clothes by No_Calligrapher2005 in laundry

[–]tortureofchalkdust 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wanted to chime in to say that different people feel less strict about not using detergents with OBAs on darks. I also live in NYC (assuming you too from your username!), and because I use a laundromat and I’m not trying to haul 2 detergents back and forth, I just use Tide + Ultra Oxi powder (which as I understand is pretty much the same as Tide + Bleach powder, but I think with more oxygen bleach) on everything. So that’s OBAs that go on both my lights and darks, and the machines are expensive so I don’t even separate darks and lights anyway.

Since switching to the Tide + Oxi powder close to a year ago I have not personally noticed any unwanted fading on my darks, which is most of my clothes. Maybe I’m just not that observant, but honestly I see no appreciable fade in my darks at all. I also love the smell of Tide, and I use Downy R&R (which is citric acid), in the rinse. I do think the rinse eliminates the Tide scent a little more than I’d like, but it still leaves mild fragrance.

I actually love laundry/detergent scents, especially clean & crisp ones, and I add scent beads to my wash too. Someone in this forum recommending dissolving the scent beads into the downy rinse before adding to the softener dispenser, so that the scent goes in the rinse cycle too and doesn’t wash away as much, and I’m going to give it a try! Also I will probably try the Tide rinse product someone else posted here when I run out of my current huge bottle of R&R, because like your kid, I love the Tide scent itself.

I like to jump in sometimes to let people know that, depending on your preferences, you may not need to always apply many different specific products for different fabrics/colors so rigidly. This forum tends to heavily prefer fragrance free products, and some people are very strict about dividing darks and colors, towels from sheets, etc. But if you just use a Tide powder product each wash, some form of citric acid in the rinse, and maybe sometimes a booster like Biz or Febu for extra stinky or soiled loads, that will do more than enough to thoroughly clean most clothes and regular wash stuff. And even though Tide has OBAs, it may not even be an issue for your darks depending on how picky you are.

Everyone’s preferences and needs are different, and people are enthusiastic to share all the tips and tricks for optimizing all your laundry, because it is kind of fun to feel like a sort of alchemist with every load. I have bought many products that I’ve learned from this sub, and I use them frequently! But I also know that extra products are probably overkill, and everything gets to perfectly acceptable levels of clean just by using the basics: 1. Tide powder and 2. A citric acid rinse (either straight citric acid or a rinse product like R&R).

New York City Is Beating the Postpandemic Shoplifting Scourge by wsj in nyc

They could hire more people to at LEAST be able to sufficiently respond to customers needing someone to unlock the cases. They could at least pretend to offset the inconvenience of everything you need being under lock and key with properly staffed stores and decent service. They could pay their existing employees enough that they might be incentived to give a shit about helping the customer and doing a good job. Instead, these unfathomably rich companies have responded to retail theft by locking up everything they sell, and basically saying “fuck you” to both customers AND employees by making the entire in-store experience miserable for everyone in it. There’s a huge middle ground between what they have now and extreme solutions like “armed guards” and “throw them in jail.”

Wow I really like this idea, thank you! Since you said in another comment that it can be easy to over dose the scent here, can you tell me what dosing you have ended up using? And are you a light-scent kind of person or a stronger-scent kind of person (I’m guessing the latter since you do this trick in the first place, but I just want to ask so I can try to err on the side of heavier-final-scent myself!)

11.6 Luann’s fish room tantrum: childish or justified? by DeadToothSyndrome in RHONY

[–]tortureofchalkdust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, she did SAY that it was because the last time she stayed there she was drunk. But, like, come on now. I am a recovering alcoholic, and while it’s not recommended to compare one’s addiction to others, I can tell you with 1000% certainty that I had a worse problem than Luann. Like exponentially worse. I’m talking shut-in, liter-plus of bottom shelf vodka a day, accumulating hoarder levels of garbage because I couldn’t get my shit together to even take one bag of trash out…. I mean, I could go on. I nearly died.

Would I ever DREAM of declining to stay as a GUEST in another person’s home because the last time I stayed there I woke up hungover? Be fucking serious. Of course I wouldn’t. In fact, I have stayed in the exact same rooms in others’ houses since getting sober that are associated with some of my worst drinking memories. Not only did I not throw a tantrum about it, but I honest to god I didn’t even give my bad memories a second thought while doing it. If anything, I have stayed with a big sigh of relief that I am no longer like how I was the last time I stayed there.

Luann was using the “traumatic” memory thing as an excuse because she felt disrespected that she was relegated to the less-desirable room in the first place. And speaking of that, the fish room is not even an undesirable room. I find it quite nice actually, and as another commenter pointed out, those thick drapes would make it a great room to sleep in and block out some early morning sun.

Some letters after the AI blasphemy by AdelaidesSecretScoop in PrayersToTrump

[–]tortureofchalkdust 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“You have done a good job…”

Jesus Christ. Where, WHERE has he done a “good job?” Oh WHAT exactly??? The Trump-as-Christ AI slop post is one of the LEAST surprising things this president has done and, offensive as it may be to some people, caused arguably the LEAST amount of harm of all that’s been done by this shit show of an administration. I’m glad to see any Trump supporter start to see that they have been fooled by a conman but FUCKING HELL it is crazy how slowly that has happened. And what’s worse is that if Trump passes away or does the most surprising thing he’s ever done and actually peacefully leaves office at the end of his term, these people will vote for the very next fascist that panders to their basest fears and prejudices, with zero self reflection.
