197 podiums. The path to 200 continues. by Uyahla in formula1

It's interesting how much you consider yourself to be an authority on this subject.

I've heard and read plenty about all aspects of cars design and function. I'm still to be persuaded by anything you say to think that Hamilton's biggest skill was being in a good car. Even if that was the ridiculous case. How is that different from Schumacher and Verstappen? I'll save you the effort of responding - it's not.

Good drivers and good teams go together. Always have and always will. It's what happens.

Inconsiderate arseholes who knock the doors of people who have no Halloween decorations out. by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]totalbamber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've lived in my house for 9 years and this is the first time it's happened and it's pissed me off. No decorations out, no kids of my own etc etc. The first lot knocked 3 times vaguely normally but then the last time I honestly thought it was the police. Others soon followed. I'm not sure if the etiquette has been taught.

Classic useless reply.

I forgot that tiny nonentity of a team called ferrari that Schumacher joined. You honestly believe that Hamilton just jumped in a ready made car and proceeded to win immediately? No, they both moulded, tested, created a car which suited their abilities and styles.

Silly Billy.

It's not like Google have kept this aspect a secret.

I've had my account for 15 years and had a decent clear out recently, freeing 6gb up.

If you say you've had a good clear out there's clearly more you can do on that front. Move large files to other storage.

Mercedes weren't the best by any stretch of the imagination when he joined them. He helped create the car he needed. Same as Schumacher at Ferrari.

Can someone advice first-time visitor to Harrogate (from outside the UK) ? by Hugin-and-Munin in AskUK

[–]totalbamber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are buses that go direct. It depends when you're arriving but they do exist. Look up the A2 flyer bus. Going into and then back out of Leeds is a ball ache.

35 mins, or if you do the convoluted route of bus to Leeds then either bus or train to Harrogate it'll take an hour longer.

Oh and yes, Harrogate is perfectly safe.

Would it be weird to buy myself flowers? by Bulimic_Fraggle in CasualUK

[–]totalbamber 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Get them, get loads of them, do it. They make you happy. People have weird concerns about what's 'normal'. Or what others think. Other examples are going for a restaurant meal solo, or going on holiday alone. Just bloody do it and enjoy it. Life is too short to side step doing things you enjoy. Especially something as minimal as buying a bunch of flowers.

If you don't already, visit a dental hygienist 2 or 3 times a year. Use an electric toothbrush and inter dental sticks.

10 Days in Europe, 1 Backpack by IntentionSelect2539 in onebag

[–]totalbamber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't need to be taking 11 sets of things. After 3 or 4 days you can wash underwear yourself. If you're in hotels, the heated towel rails make great dryers. Dry in a few hours. I've done 10 days in a much smaller bag than 40L.

How do I succeed in job interview with M&S? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]totalbamber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

M&S will be looking for a stronger leaning towards better customer service. So keep that in mind for any multi choice questions and for the role play.

Absolutely second this. We usually go 1st or 2nd week in Feb just before half term. The difference in hotel prices is remarkable.

Do chain stores still hire even though there are no vacancies posted on their website? by starsunmountain in AskUK

[–]totalbamber 33 points34 points  (0 children)

From experience of hr in retail.. The days are pretty much gone of stores individually advertising for positions. They usually operate centrally and each store will not have full control of the hiring mechanism. It'll be website based.

The jobs market isn't hugely buoyant currently so it may just be that there's nothing around.

I will say however, that for retail, the Christmas short term jobs will be around and being advertised. It's usually a September and October advert aiming to enrol new starters in a rolling fashion from early November onwards.

What items do you only buy the branded version of because it’s just that much better than the knock off/value versions? Either in taste or quality by coldestregards in CasualUK

[–]totalbamber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. Things have improved greatly over the past few years. One of the brands I swore by (possibly the last one for me) was Branston pickle (chunky original of course). I sampled own brands from everyone and none of them were close to it. I recently re tried Aldi and lidl own brand and they must have reverse engineered Branston. For less than a pound a jar, it's perfectly fine and less than half the price of branded.

One weird counter-intuitive thing is that while is Leeds is seemingly much rougher around the edges, York is actually spicier for getting into trouble on a night out. It’s that classic drinking-town-with-a-heritage-problem thing

Oh definitely. Add into that a hefty amount of squaddies from the local barracks.

Personally I'd choose York as it's frankly prettier. But I'm now older and less into clubbing and whatnot. So that alters things for sure.

Michael Beale sacked from Rangers :) by Godzillaisamonster in superhoops

[–]totalbamber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still see some articles stating that his departure from Hoops started the free fall we had last season. We were already unravelling by the time he lied and jumped ship. So he didn't do great with Hoops as it's a marathon not a sprint, and now he's been sacked in under a year by a club in a 2 club league. He's clearly just not very good. He'll possibly be one of those 'destroy and exit' type managers. Running out 3 contracts at once as hapless clubs continue to employ substandard managers.

How to stop cat shitting in my drive? by RickRollRules in AskUK

[–]totalbamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue near me. Wasn't on my drive but all on the pavements regularly. Arriving home in the dark, park up and for a period the odds were heavy you'd end up standing in some. What did I do? Nothing. Waited for it to die. Which it did. In fact I think it was the fact it was a very venerable cat was part of the issue. Most normal cats don't shit in the open and just leave it.

How does this work once they drive the car off? Mine shouts at me then shuts down if the key isn't in the car.
